Minister for Animal and Sheep
Husbandry, Sajad Gani Lone
today said that there is a huge
scope of setting up world class
sheep rearing farms in the State
with the institutional support and
involvement of private players in
the state.
The Minister said this while
chairing a meeting of officers of
Sheep Husbandry Department
convened to review the functioning of the department and status
of the works.
The Minister said that the
setting-up of Sheep rearing
farms would go a long way in
increasing the mutton production, besides generating employment opportunities to the unemployed youth especially in rural
areas. He also underscored the
need for adopting long term and
short term measures for giving
boost to the sector.
Emphasizing the need of fod-
der management, Sajad said that
it is the need of the hour to
exploit the vast un-utilized pastures by converting them into
permanent fodder producing
pastures.
Stressing upon the officers
for launching awareness campaign to educate people about
schemes in vogue for the welfare
of people dealing with this sector, the Minister said this will
help in the promotion of sheep
and sheep products in the State
in a big way.

Narco smuggler held
with poppy straw

JAMMU, May 22: Talab
Tillo police today arrested a narcotic smuggler along with 1.750
grams of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on
specific information, police
team from Talab Tillo police
post laid a naka and intercepted
a pedestrian carrying bag on
suspicious grounds.
During checking, police
recovered 1.750 grams of poppy
straw from the bag and arrested
the narcotic smuggler.
The accused has been identified as Sajan Kumar, son of
Shinder Pal of Nawashehar,
Punjab.
A case under Section 8/15

reviewed the supply position of
essential commodities like Rice,
Atta, etc in a meeting with officers of CAPD Department.
Minister of State for

Sat Sharma were also present in
the meeting.
A detailed review of the
stocks and supply position of
Atta, Rice, Wheat, Sugar,
Kerosene Oil and LPG in
Jammu province was held during the meeting.
Kavinder Gupta exhorted
upon officers of CAPD to ensure
availability of essential commodities and their timely distribution to the consmuers. He
further asked them to ensure that
the rationees get the commodities strictly as per scale and price
fixed by the Government.

JAMMU, May 22: To provide proper health check-up to
the poor and needy people of far
flung areas of Jammu Division,
Indian Red Cross Society
(IRCS), Region Jammu organized a medical check-up camp at
Village Dori Dagair in Block
Khara of District Jammu.
During the camp more than
200 patients suffering from different ailments were examined
by a team of doctors namely Dr
Rohini Bhan, Medical Officer,
Red Cross Dispensary, Dr
Priyanka
Parihar
(BDS),
Interns--Mukhtar Hussain and
Mudasir Bashir. They were
assisted by Kuldeep Bhat,
Senior Opthalmic Assistant,
Sohan Lal, Pharmacist and
Sangita Devi, FMPHW. Free
Medicines were also provided to
the needy patients.
Prominent among those
present on the occasion included
Madan Lal Sharma, ex-chairman, Village Dori Dagair and
Mangat Ram Sharma.
The camp was organized
under the supervision of RC

Gargi's famous play "Chakku"
here today.
On the occasion, BS Sharma,
senior citizen and Chairman STG
was the chief guest while
Romesh Sharma ZEO presided
over the programme. The play
was directed by M Akram Khan
and was well received by the
audience.
The play opens at a sea shore
where a young man is shown in a
frustrated way. He had come to
Mumbai to become a hero but
after a tiring struggle gets nothing, now afraid of what people
will say if he goes back, he
decides to end his life in the
waves of the sea. When he was
about to jump, an old lady stops
him and motivates him to live,
this sympathy generates a feeling
of love in his heart for the lady
who appeared double of his age.
He asserts that he was never
attracted to the young girls as
they sans experience and are very
strange in their ways, and he
longs for emotional love which
he may get from the lady of the
ripe age only.

Parwana and music was scored
by Sushil and Sunil Gill.

today toured the rural belt of his
constituency and interacted with
people.
The Speaker was accompanied by SDM, South, Shahid
Mehmood; BDO, Satwari,
Shafqat; X-En, PWD, Abdullah;
X-En, PHE, Ashok Sharma; XEn, PDD, Arvind Chibber; XEn, I&FC, Anil Sharma and
other field staff of these departments.
The Speaker convened various public grievances camps at
these places to take first hand

On the issue of transportation, Gupta took a dig on the
previous NC-Congress regime
and said that he is aware of the
fact that these areas lack transport facility from a long time
and nothing has been done due
to the unpretentious attitude of
the previous Government. Gupta
told them that he has already
taken up the matter with the
Transport Minister and the facility will be provided to them very
soon.
ESIC organizes awareness
seminar at CTM

Employees’ State Insurance
Corporation (ESIC) today organized an awareness seminar here at
Chenab Textile Mills (CTM).
The function was presided
over by KC Sharma, executive
president. CTM Deputy Director,
Sindo Ram, gave an overview of
various provisions of benefits
available in the ESI Scheme. He
also apprised the audience about
certain changes made in the
scheme particularly pertaining to
super specialty treatment.
Stakeholders,
however,
expressed their deep concern on
certain changes made in the provisions of the scheme which are
against the interest of the ESI
beneficiaries and demanded roll
back of the same.
The stakeholders also showed
resentment on non-starting of
ESIC
Model
Dispensary
(MDDC) in the second shift to
enable at least 12 hours dispensary services in Kathua. They also
complained that there is no availability of diagnostic/pathological
test facility in MDDC for the last
about three years. of its functioning nor was there any tie-up made
in lieu thereof and the patients are
mostly being made to travel long
distance to ESIC Model Hospital,
Jammu for even these primary
tests.
Regional Director, ESIC,
Arvind Kumar, gave an overview
of the facilities and plans for
Kathua area such as starting of
ambulance services since last
year, provision of adequate medicine in ESI Dispensary, getting
approval of Regional Board for
an ESI Hospital for KathuaSamba cluster, steps for special
repairs and modernization of ESI
Dispensary building through
CPWD etc.
Regarding running of two ESI
Dispensaries in two shifts he stated that the matter has been taken
up with the ESIC Hospital
authorities under whom the
MDDC functions. He also added
that he would take up the issue of
referrals to local tie-up hospitals
by State ESI Dispensary.

Katra where over 45 stakeholders
were given presentation about the
ESI Scheme and latest changes
therein by Dr Om Prakash, State
Medical Commissioner and Sunil

for PHE, Irrigation and Flood
Control Sukhnandan Kumar
today conducted a surprise visit
of Kathua and Samba districts
for an on the spot inspection of
water supply scenario in these
areas.
During the tour, people of
these areas told the Minister that
there was a need to take immediate steps to overcome the water
scarcity problem.
During the visit, the Minister
directed the officers and
Engineers of PHE, Irrigation &
Flood Control Department to
gear up their field functionaries
and expedite the pace of work
on all WSSs, pump stations and
other irrigation projects so that
people of these areas don't face
any inconvenience in the current

JAMMU, May 22: A five day
training session on fire fighting,
survival and rescue and first aid
was conducted in Forest Guards
Training School, Doomi by the
Civil Defence Organization,
Jammu.
The experts from the Civil
Defence organization conducted
practical demonstrations in the
training centre for the Forest
guards who are the frontline staff
in remote areas of Forest
Department and are the first to
encounter any field eventuality.
In order to enable them to help
themselves and the other people
in remote areas during crisis situations, this training program was
conducted in Forest Guards
Training School Doomi campus
under the supervision of Deputy
Controller Civil Defence Tajinder
Kour and Deputy Divisional
Warden, Jammu Alok Nanda,
Disaster management expert
(Presidents Medal awardee).
Speaking on valedictory function, Rakesh Abrol Principal of
the training center laid emphasis
on the importance of this training
and described it as beneficial not
only for the protection of Forests
and Forest staff but for the society
as a whole.
He extended thanks to the
team of Civil Defence and gratitude for the authorities of the Civil
Defence, Jammu for sparing their
staff and for arranging equipments and experts for this training.

2 injured as tractor
turns turtle

REASI, May 22: Two persons were injured when a tractor turned turtle at Sherbadh,
near Katra, here this evening.
The injured, identified as
Sunil Kumar, son of Hans Raj
of Kanjli and Ram Paul, son of
Bishan Dass of Agar Jittoo,
were shifted to Katra hospital
where doctors referred them to
GMC Hospital Jammu.
The tractor, bearing registration number JK02EA-9559,
was loaded with iron rods. The
accident took place after the
drive lost control on the tractor,
which turned turtle on the road.
