There have been some great successes this term with students producing excellent stories in English; creative designs in Art; making clocks in DT; making volcanoes in Nurture; solving problems in Maths and dissections in Science! Most students have demonstrated good progress across a range of subjects and you will hear more about this in your child’s Student Review Meeting on Tuesday 5th January. Best wishes Gaby Thomas, Head of School, CCfL KS3 School. 5th January 2016 Further INSET days To be advised Families in Focus Christmas Holiday Programme Full details of times and venues can be found on the back of this newsletter PAGE 3 Activities This term the students from Capricorn class have been working with the dogs trust, they have been learning about different breeds of dogs, dangerous dogs and the dangerous dogs act, they have made dog biscuits which were taken to be sold at the dogs trust shop, CHRISTMAS Students have also calculated the expense of owning and looking after a dog. Students went to visit the rehoming centre and met the staff and residents of the home they had the opportunity to play with some of the dogs and exercise them CCfL will be working with the dogs trust again next term. PAGE English Students will be studying a range of Newspaper articles. They will looking at different types of newspapers and how this effects the stories they report. Maths Next term our unit will be g e o m e t r y a n d measures. We will finding the area and perimeter of a range of shapes and starting to transform shapes on a coordinate grid. Citizenship We will be continuing to look at diversity and discrimination this term. We will be considering different forms of prejudice, including homophobia. We will look at British values, what they are and what they mean in our daily lives. Geography This term we will be studying development looking at Britain’s place in the economic world. We will look at why some countries are poorer than others and how that is changing in certain parts of the world. History In our History lesson’s we will start our learning by looking at what Britain was like in the years leading up to world war 1. Then we will learn about why World War 1 started and why soldiers joined the war effort before going onto learn how the war was fought and how it affected the rest of the world at the time. We will be using lots of photographs and looking at some old film so if any parents want to share any stories or memorabilia that they may have been given by other relatives, email Wendy at The Camden Centre for Learning and she will pass your material on to me at the school. made a donation to the PSHE This term experts will be visiting each week from Camden’s Substance Misuse team. Art and Design We will be exploring the genre of Landscape art in the Spring term, students will have the opportunity to investigate a wide range of artists’ work and the tradition of landscape art from different cultures and traditions. We will explore a range of media and develop our skills with different techniques and processes over the term, further extending our understanding of the formal elements of art. Science In the spring term we will be exploring the fascinating world of physics. This will involve exploring the mysteries of space and the solar system, learning about the nature of light and waves in the electromagnetic spectrum and experimenting with electricity. Students will be exercising their scientific enquiry skills and gaining new knowledge to equip them for their science GCSE’s. For example I have helped parents who are looking at returning to work, or have problems with of the following : benefits, housing, rent arrears, or need to talk through family charities to help support families who are in financial difficulties.
