Course Description:
Introduces the principles and elements of interior design based on function and aesthetics.
Student Learning Outcomes Evaluate the appropriateness of room design based on mass, balance, rhythm, emphasis,
harmony, space, shape, form, mass, line, color, texture, pattern, lighting, proportion and scale in a variety of spaces.

Grading:
Grades will be based on letter and percentage grades given for projects, assignments, quizzes, and class participation. The
grading scale is based on points:
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 59 and below

Class participation 5 pts (means you interact in class with the instructor and students and/or ask questions. You cannot
participate if you do not attend class).
Late assignments will be accepted for up to one week after the due date and penalized one full letter grade. There are no
exceptions without a valid excuse.
It is the discretion of the instructor to drop a student after the third absence. The class meets twice per week, for a total
of three hours. If it is past the drop deadline the student will be penalized one letter grade for each set of 3 absences.
Two tardies equal an absence. Any student arriving late or leaving early will be considered tardy.
Materials & Supplies:
1 ½” 3-ring binder with tabs for notes/handouts, assignments, tests, and grading sheets. This is so you can stay organized
throughout the semester.

Folder for turning in one field trip report
1 – Furniture template in ¼” scale (be sure you buy the right scale size)
1 - Architects Scale (make sure it says "Architects" on the actual scale)
1 - Flash Drive.
1 - HB pencil (same as your #2 pencil)
1 - 45 degree triangle 8" to 10"

Food and Drinks:
No food and drinks are permitted in the classroom. You may keep bottled water capped and under the desk. Please
discard of any empty bottles.
Fieldtrips:
Fieldtrips are considered part of the course and are counted towards class attendance. Students are to conduct themselves
as a professional representative of the college when attending fieldtrips. If you are a minor, you must be accompanied by
a legal guardian
There will be a tentative guest speaker from Princess Cruises. Students will be given extra credit participation for
attending. Date and times to be determined.
Student Conduct/ Academic Integrity:
As at any academic institution you are required to conduct yourself as a professional and courteous student. Any act of
plagiarism, cheating etc. will be disciplined to the utmost degree by college rules and standards.

Train ticket is much cheaper by going on Saturday rather than during the week

Westweek is March 25th. Please act now to receive permission from other teachers to have the entire day off (if this is
your major, you should attend Westweek). If interior design is not your major, and you cannot attend Westweek due
to your class schedule, you will be given a separate research assignment to make up for the missed class.
