and Glass Office (€60,000), and Sunday’s Italian Listed
scorer Sorella Bella (€15,000).
This year’s Orby Sale has put together a top class
catalogue, which includes youngsters by most of the
current top sires, including Galileo (eight lots), Montjeu
(seven), Invincible Spirit (17), Pivotal (one), Exceed And
Excel (six), Dubawi (one) and Oasis Dream (two). The
leading first season sires based on earnings, New
Approach (eight lots), and winners, Sakhee’s Secret
(three), are also represented, along with a selection of
yearlings from the first crops by 13 new sires.
The most eagerly-awaited of these will surely be Sea
The Stars, who had one of his sons sell for €1.2m at
Arqana and another for $675,000 at Keeneland. The
Champion racehorse of 2009 has nine yearlings
catalogued here. There are 19 in the sale by
Mastercraftsman, a dual Gr.1 winner at both two and
three who has also proved popular, with his early yearlings
selling for up to €230,000, while fellow Coolmore sire
Fastnet Rock has 13 here from his first northern
hemisphere crop. The Orby part of the sale also includes
eleven yearlings by Tally-Ho Stud’s dual Gr.1-winning
juvenile Bushranger, nine by Ballylinch Stud’s Gr.1
Dewhurst Stakes winner Intense Focus, three by
Lanwades Stud’s Gr.1 winer Archipenko, three by
Coolmore’s seven-times Gr.1 winner Yeats, two by
Shadwell’s Gr.1-winning miler Aqlaam, two by Haras du
Mezeray’s Gr.1-winning juvenile Myboycharlie, two by
Coolmore’s former US-based Gr.1-winning two-year-old
Thewayyouare, and one each by the Irish National Stud’s
Gr.1-winning sprinter Art Connoisseur, Juddmonte

BUYERS IN SEARCH
FOR FUTURE CHAMPIONS
Goffs have catalogued a reduced book of 400 yearlings for
their flagship Orby Sale, which will be held over the next
two days, one fewer than last year, and have reinstated the
Sportman’s Sale for the following day, Friday, which will
see a further 187 yearlings offered.
There were few changes to the Orby Sale statistics in
2011, with the aggregate, average (€46,247) and median
(€30,000) changing very little from twelve months
previously, and the clearance rate rising by 2% to a
healthy 79%.
Shadwell Estate Company and Sir Robert Ogden
certainly made their marks twelve months ago, snapping
up the top five yearlings between them. Shadwell went to
€350,000 for the highest-priced of them all, a New
Approach filly out of Posterity from the Castlebridge
Consignment. Now named Rasmeyaa and trained by
Dermot Weld, she was a highly promising third in the
Listed Flame of Tara Stakes on her recent debut.
Graduates of last year’s sale include last month’s Gr.1
Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Sky Lantern (bought for
€75,000), the Gr.2 Flying Childers Stakes victor Sir
Prancealot (€140,000), Gr.3 winners Maureen (€20,000)

GROUP WINNERS LEFT IN THE
SATURDAY’S MILLIONS RACES
NATHANIEL ANOTHER TO
MISS ARC OUTING
The most valuable races of the Tattersalls Millions 2012/13
series come to a head this Saturday, 6th October, with the
£300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies’ Trophy and the
£500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy taking place at
Newmarket Racecourses’ Rowley Mile as part of a
bumper afternoon of racing.
The £300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Fillies’ Trophy is
up first at 2:15pm, with likely contenders coming from the
Richard Hannon yard, including Victrix Ludorum
(Invincible Spirit), who won the £100,000 Tattersalls
Millions Fillies’ Median Auction Stakes ten days ago.
James Fanshawe’s Badr Al Badoor (Acclamation), a
previous beaten favourite is also entered and is bidding to
reverse placings with Victrix Ludorum having finished
second to the filly last time. Mark Johnson has four entries
at the 5 day stage, one of which is Penny Rose (Danehill
Dancer), impressive winner of two out of three of her
career starts – the latest being at Newbury in a Conditions
Stakes for fillies. The Gold Cheongsam (Red Clubs),
trained by Jeremy Noseda, is bidding for her fourth career
win out of seven starts. She cumulated a hat trick of wins
this summer before an unplaced run in Gr.1 company last
time in the Cheveley Park Stakes.
Mick Channon has entered his Group winning filly Ollie
Olga (Stormy Atlantic) in both races. The filly, who is
Less than 24 hours after the shock news that Danedream
(Lomitas) had been ruled out of the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de
Triomphe, it has been announced that Nathaniel (Galileo)
would also miss Sunday’s race.
James Wigan, racing manager to Nathaniel’s breeder
and part owner Lady Rothschild, said: “He had a
temperature this morning, they took some blood tests and
his blood wasn’t right. Considering how close we are to
the race, we cannot consider running him.”
Fellow part-owner Newsells Park Stud was also left
cursing their bad luck after Nathaniel’s Arc dream was
ended.
General manager Julian Dollar tweeted: “Nathaniel; a
non runner in Arc due to a high temp and poor bloods. I’m
using every profanity I know right now, plus a few I’ve just
invented!”

Another eye-catching contender from the Hannon stable
is Tamayuz Star, winner of the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions
Median Auction Trophy. He beat Zanetto (Medicean) by
just a neck in this race less than two weeks ago. Zanetto
is one of three declared at the five day stage by trainer
Andrew Balding, the other stand out being Race And
Status (Raven’s Pass) – an impressive winner of his only
start at Newbury again just two weeks ago.
Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, featuring
the only yearlings eligible for next year’s series, takes

owned by the same connections as last year’s £300,000
Tattersalls Millions 2YO Fillies’ Trophy winner Samitar
(Rock Of Gibraltar), won the Gr.3 Prestige Stakes at
Goodwood recently.
Straight after the 2YO fillies contest, £500,000 in prize
money is on offer in the Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy for
colts, geldings and fillies, where Richard Hannon’s
Havana Gold (Teofilo) bids to add a fifth win to his tally,
the most recent in the Gr.3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes
last Thursday. The trainer commented, “Havana Gold and
Tamayuz Star [Tamayuz] are both confirmed runners on
Saturday. They both came out of their previous races very
well. Victrix Ludorum is also an intended runner in the
Tattersalls Millions Fillies Trophy and also in good form
following her win at Newmarket last week.”
Aidan O’Brien has entered the Gr.1 winner colt Pedro
The Great (Henrythenavigator), who won the Phoenix
Stakes in August on his last start. The colt was bought by
Demi O’Bryne for 150,000gns at last year’s Tattersalls
October Yearling Sale Book 1. The Ballydoyle handler has
also entered Hall Of Mirrors (Duke Of Marmalade) and
Parliament Square (Acclamation).
With under £100,000 separating Aidan O’Brien and John
Gosden in the 2012 Trainers Championship, the result of
Saturday’s races could see a change in the lead. At the
five day declaration stage, Gosden has declared Ghurair
(Elusive Quality) in the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO
Trophy, a winner on his first start at Newmarket’s July
course in, whilst in the £300,000 Tattersalls Millions Fillies’
Trophy he has declared the unraced Reqaaba (Exceed

DAWN APPROACH WARMS UP
FOR DEWHURST STAKES
Dawn Approach this morning warmed up for his 13th
October Dewhurst Stakes engagement with a solid workout under big-race jockey Kevin Manning.
The unbeaten son of New Approach worked in
company with fellow entry Leitir Mor (Holy Roman
Emperor) over five and a half furlongs at trainer Jim
Bolger’s Beechy Park in County Carlow.
Europe’s leading two-year-old on official figures, Dawn
Approach now carries the Godolphin blue silks and was
last seen when emphatically taking the Gr.1 Vincent
O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh in September.
Bolger will also bring Wexford Opera (New Approach)
to the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes over six furlongs and
impressive Gowran Park maiden winner Trading Leather
(Teofilo) in the mile Gr.3 Autumn Stakes.
All three races are run on Future Champions Day at
Newmarket, Saturday, 13th October.

drew clear of her rivals to win comfortably by six lengths.
This was the daughter of Ballingarry’s fourth win at Listed
level, having landed the Prix du Cher in April and the Prix
Count Schomberg and the Prix Gaston Branere in 2011
and 2010 respectively.
Bred by Patrick Boiteau, she is a half-sister to the Listed
Prix Rene Bedel winner Top World (Lost World). Their
dam Topkar (Arokar) won 16 races on the flat and over
hurdles, and is a half-sister to the eleven-times winner
Carma (Akarad).
Pythagore prevailed in a close finish yesterday to take
the Listed Prix de la Gasgogne, his third Listed and fourth
consecutive victory. The son of Kahyasi outbattled Al
Bucq (Goldneyev) and Formosa Joana Has (Turgeon) to
win by a length and a quarter. The Jean-Pierre Columbu
owned and bred gelding is out of Peony Girl (Phantom
Breeze), and is a half-brother to the tough handicapper
Parmelie (Pivotal), from the family of the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc
de Triomphe, Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club winner and sire
Peintre Celebre (Nuryev).
Unique Des Sources has taken something of a shine to
Enghien-Soisy and duly took the Listed Prix Dominique
Sartini, his third consecutive win at the track and his first
at Stakes level. The four-year-old son of the La Balafre
comfortably outpointed Kauto Shiny (Priolo), a daughter
of Kauto’s Star’s half-sister Kauto Relstar (Art Bleu), to
win by two and a half lengths.
Bred by his joint-owner Yves Arondel, his second dam
Dauvillaise (Raly De Rieux) is a half-sister to Gondole III
(Dress Parade; dam of the Gr.3 Gr.3 Prix du President de
la Republique winner Norville Du Bois).

NEW TROPHY TO HONOUR SHADWELL WINNER
Following the running of the 2012 Gr.1 Shadwell Turf Mile
at Keeneland on Saturday, the connections of the winning
horse will be awarded a newly-designed perpetual trophy
to commemorate the event. Shadwell Farm, who has
sponsored the race since 1999, commissioned the piece
which is modeled on Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum’s
favourite falcon Nayef. The bronze sculpture depicts a
regal falcon on a traditional block perch. The bronze itself
sits on a wooden base with all the previous winners of the
prestigious event engraved.
In addition, each winner of the race will receive a full size
reproduction of the perpetual trophy beginning this year.
The purse for the 2012 running has been increased to
$750,000, which makes the race and the Gr.1 Toyota Blue
Grass Stakes the two richest races run at Keeneland.

DUAL GR.3 WINNER NO RISK TO
REBOURSIERE ET MONTAIGU
Sales Talk
No Risk At All, winner of the Gr.3 La Coupe and the Gr.3
Grand Prix de Vichy, has been retired after suffering a
minor leg injury. The five-year-old son of My Risk, who
also won three Listed races at Saint-Cloud, landed five
races from 13 starts.
Bred by Sylvia Wildenstein, he is a half-brother to the Gr.1
Prix Alain du Breil winner N’Avoue Jamais (Marignan) and
the dual Gr.1 winner and sire Nickname (Lost World).
He will stand at Haras de la Reboursiere et de Montaigu.
FASIG-TIPTON
MEDIAN EQUALS RECORD FOR
EASTERN FALL SALE
The market was robust at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic
Eastern Fall Yearling Sale and the sale posted increases in
median and average. The median price was up 29.7%
from twelve months ago and equalled the auction’s record
of $12,000, which had been established in 2004. The
average price of $22,341 grew 20.6%. Even though the
number of horses that were sold declined 16.9%, the
gross was nearly the same as in 2011, rising less than 1%.
The buy-back rate fell to 15.3% from 26.2% last year.
“It was a very solid sale and there were buyers at all
levels,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. “We
had a very diverse representation of buyers from the
Midlantic region and also some international participation.
The Koreans were very active.”
The final figures for the auction included a gross of
$6,166,100 for the 276 yearlings that were sold.
A daughter of Malibu Moon topped the Midlantic
auction, commanding $300,000, when falling to Ellen
Charles. He purchased the Virginia-bred filly from Rick and
Dixie Abbott’s Pennsylvania-based Charlton sales agency,
which consigned her for Audley Farm Equine.
The yearling is a half-sister to the winners Touch Of
Success (Touch Gold) and Noble Grey (Forestry). Their
dam, the winning Holy Bull mare Never Fail, finished
second in the 2002 Three Ring Stakes and third in the
2004 Boots n Jackie Stakes at Calder Race Course. Never
Fail is a half sister to Gr.2 winner and Gr.2 producer How
About Now (Pentelicus).
A son of Street Sense was the second highest priced
horse sold during the Midlantic auction when bringing a bid
of $210,000 from Jim Moloney/Irish Acres. Consigned by the
Kentucky-based Paramount Sales, agent, the dark bay or
brown yearling is out of dual winner Richbabe (Richman)
and is a half brother to Gr.3 Debutante Stakes winner

STAY THIRSTY FOR ASHFORD
Brilliant Gr.1 Travers Stakes winner Stay Thirsty will retire
to stand at Ashford Stud for the 2013 season. The Todd
Pletcher-trained son of Bernardini ran a huge race in
Saturday’s Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational and a
decision will be made on the remainder of his racing
career in the near future.
“Stay Thirsty has it all. A very fast two-year-old, he was
brilliant at three and, at Belmont on Saturday, he showed
he retains all his ability. He’s by a much sought after
stallion in Bernardini and he’s out of a real blue hen mare
in Marozia, who has produced three Gr.1 horses and
invariably gets great-looking stock,” said Ashford Stud
Manager Dermot Ryan.

Richwoman (Successful Appeal). He is a full-brother to the
winner Street Thug. Other family members include Gr.1
winner Videogenic and Gr.2 winner Ziggy’s Boy.
decent maiden on debut at Ascot, as Jeremy Noseda’s
juveniles often do, enjoying the soft ground. He still looks as
if he will develop more and make a useful three-year-old.
Ahead in second in that race at Ascot was Telescope
(Galileo), who earned quotes for the Gr.1 Derby after his
debut and he went some way to justifying this interest by
taking an EBF maiden over a mile at Newmarket on
Thursday in good style, beating the fourth at Ascot,
Elkaayed (Distorted Humor). He has plenty of scope and
may not run again this year, but the solidity of the form
makes him the One to Watch
Stuart Williams is a shrewd trainer and it should have
been no surprise that Pearl Reward (Medaglia D’Oro)
landed quite a punt after being beaten on his debut 128
days earlier when taking an EBF maiden over a mile at
Pontefract on Thursday, by eight lengths. The win strictly on
form is only worth a rating of 80 or so, but he might be
better than that.
Seek Again (Speightstown) was also impressive in
winning an EBF maiden at Newmarket on Friday on his
debut, as he looked green as he headed down into the
bushes, three furlongs out, but was soon travelling well
again and winning with something in hand. He may well
run again this season but is a fine prospect.
Another son of Medaglia D’Oro, Fighter Squadron, put
up a good show in an EBF maiden over a mile at Dundalk
on Friday to score on his debut, taking the lead smoothly
a furlong or so out and not looking in much danger as he
crossed the line slightly under a length ahead.
Hollowina (Beat Hollow) had to work harder on her
debut in a fillies’ maiden over a mile at Haydock Park, as
much because the ground was heavy as because of the
opposition. She should not need an extreme of ground
and she should have a bright future.
Salhooda (Nayef) beat Hanky Panky (Galileo) by a
head after quite a battle in heavy ground in an EBF maiden
at the Curragh over seven furlongs on Sunday, in a time
not that much slower than the Gr.3 CL Weld Stakes over
the same trip later in the afternoon, which augurs well for
the future of both.
Richard Hannon considers Rundell (Notnowcato) a
decent prospect for next year after he won one of the rare
maidens over ten furlongs for juveniles at Bath in a fair
time on Monday. He is unlikely to run again this year.
SWEDEN
SMALL IMPROVEMENT AT
YEARLING SALE
For the third time there was a small yearling sale held last
Friday at Roslövsholm, in the southern part of Sweden. 22
of the 43 horses offered changed hands, with an average
price of SKr43,455 (£4,080).
The sales top price was achieved by a High Chaparral
colt out of the Spectrum mare See Me, the dam of
Swedish Oaks victrix Red Dress On (Loup Solitaire) and
Swedish St Leger victor Shade of Pale (Funambule). He
was bought by trainer Mikael Tjernstrom for SKr340,000
(£31,900). There was only one more yearling which made
six figures, a Mount Nelson colt out of the Singspiel
mare The Stick, who was sold for SKr100,000 to Tommy
Nilsson Holdings. BR
