With the increasing sophistication of electrical and electronic
equipment, the need for protection from radio frequency
interference (RFI) and mains borne transient surges is of
paramount importance. Power fluctuation problems can arise
from lightning strikes, electrical equipment being turned on and
off and radio transmissions etc.
Most power surges will be obstructed by the filter. If an abnormally high surge
should occur that saturates the filter, the ‘Protected when lit’ indicator will go
out and the socket should be replaced. It will however continue to operate as
a normal socket so continuous power/data will not be lost.
