AN-0309-01 Demonstration System – Dial-In ProView Access and SCADA Access to Form6 Control Using NovaTech OrionLX This system demonstrates two simultaneous connections to a Form6 Control: one connection to access SCADA data and the other connection to access engineering data using ProView. The remote PC running ProView is connected via an analog dial-in phone line to the OrionLX which “passes through” ProView to the Form6. This application note details PC settings, OrionLX settings and Form6 settings to make this application work. It will not be necessary to enter a real phone number when using the Viking model phone line simulator in this demo system. #9 Theses should match the user name and password configured in Orion. Note both name and password are case sensitive. Demonstration System – Dial-In ProView Access and SCADA Access to Form6 Control Using NovaTech Orion PC Set-Up for Dial-Out (XP shown, others similar) PC Set-up complete Click on icon to open window. Phone number can be modified here if necessary Demonstration System – Dial-In ProView Access and SCADA Access to Form6 Control Using NovaTech Orion OrionLX Configuration Make sure User privileges are set up to permit configuration of networking parameters, access by modem, PPP dial-in and other privileges Set up OrionLX to route transactions from the incoming PPP phone line to the E1 Ethernet port (note this selection will enable routing between any Orion network ports). Set IP address for E1; same subnet as the Cooper Form6 Demonstration System – Dial-In ProView Access and SCADA Access to Form6 Control Using NovaTech Orion The IP address for the OrionLX when using PPP is always 192.168.2.10 The PC connected to the OrionLX via the built in modem will be assigned 192.168.2.21 (A PC connected to the OrionLX via an external modem on port B will be assigned 192.168.2.11) Enable Modem and set modem parameters. Usually, autobauding will establish a reliable connection, but if problems are encountered on file uploads, set baud rate to 28.8baudk or lower. Security Establishing the PPP connection, and routing through to the Cooper Form6, is only possible by preidentified users with PPP access privileges, modem access privileges and “passthrough” privileges. Unauthorized access attempts will be logged. Users/passwords can be set up either in Orion, or in an authentication server (such as RADIUS). The OrionLX firewall can be configured to restrict connections to authorized remote clients, as well as restrict connections to authorized data servers in the substations. A VPN can be established between Orion and SCADA and between Orion and remote engineering workstation to encrypt transactions. Secure protocols – HTTPS, sFTP and SSH – can be used between Orion and remote PC workstations. Demonstration System – Dial-In ProView Access and SCADA Access to Form6 Control Using NovaTech Orion Going On-Line to Form6 using Ethernet (through Orion) In this demonstration system, the PPP connection between Orion and the PC makes the phone line operate as a network so internet protocols can be sent over the line. ProView protocol can be sent over the phone line and routed through Orion and on to the Form6. The PC will appear as if directly connected to the Form6 on Ethernet.
