Introduction The MICRONEL ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) features exceptional functions and is suitable for the control of small motors or fans. After three years intensive development work for a controler chip for DC-motors and-fans, the ASIC is now available in series. MICRONEL has been active for already 32 years in the field of fantechnology. Principle Sensorless control of the 3-phase commutation by evaluation of the back-EMF. Due to the integrated motor driver direct connection of motors up to 7W is possible. Additional functions allow various controlling combinations. The ASIC is made of I2T-technology and available as DICE or in a SO28-housing. Special functions - 3-phases, sensorless with BackEMF - Wide supply voltage range 4,75-35 VDC - Integrated driver 200mA - Adjustable current limitation - Interface for External-PowerDriver - Adjustable speed regulation - Possibility of changeable speeds by PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) - PLL (Phase Locked Loop) alows a constant speed - NOS (Non Operating Signal) - Tacho output for external speed control and indication - Stop-Function - Audio noise damping feature PWM Rpm Control PWM Speed adjustment via PWM. Selected speed remains constant even at voltage change. PLL Speed remains constant even at change of working resistance. Continuous adjustment of speed tolerances. NOS Information signal of motor rotations. Vital for security applications such as medical, aviation, respiratory systems, intrinsic safety etc.. Examples of applications ? Low noise ultra-slim fans (electronic noise damping) ? Explosion-proof fan for fuel cell vehicles ? Powered air purifying respirators (personal safety) ? Pumps with constant speed at changeable working resistance Integration possibilities The DICE size of the ASIC is most advantageous for PCB assembly and therefore for integration into small DC motors (min. ø, 13 mm motor!) Together with Power IC’c applications up to 3A are possible (for ex. L6234) Evaluation-Board Customer specific applications can be tested with the evaluation board. A detailled manual (Mo10X-011d) is supplied with the EVA-Board. Reliability The serial productions are subject to strict test runs at –40, 25, 85, 120°C. Longterm tests ar run at 125°C.
