POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT (part-time: 2 h/day)
Position available within the research project entitled: “Extreme weather events related
to air temperature and precipitation in Romania”, project code PN-II-RU-TE-2014-40736.

DESCRIPTION: Testing the homogeneity of climate data series, Identification of heat/cold
waves and wet/dry spells, Statistical analysis of Extreme Weather Events related to air
Temperature and Precipitation (EWETR) in Romania: frequency, occurrence probability,
trends; Setting up the synoptic maps database in order to identify the causes for each type
of extreme phenomena considered; Analysis of synoptic conditions which led to the
heat/cold waves and wet/dry spells occurrence. Investigation of causal relationships
between each type of EWETP occurrence in Romania and meso- and macroscale
circulation patterns; The choice of case studies for EWETP and setting the database of
generated effects on the environment and society of each chosen event; Synthesizing the
impacts of each EWETP category on the environment and society; Constructing the daily
data series of extreme temperatures and precipitation for the period 2020-2100 from
global and regional climate models outputs by downscaling procedure; EWETP
identification from modelled data series for the period 2020-2100; Analysis of EWETP
modelled data similar to the analysis carried out at observations data and comparing the
results. Research results dissemination.
