INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODEL PLN-60-12 CLASS 2 LED POWER SUPPLY ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS INPUT OUTPUT VOLTAGE RANGE: 100 ~ 277VAC FREQUENCY RANGE: 47 ~ 63Hz EFFICIENCY: 85% POWER FACTOR: NORMAL DC VOLTAGE: 12 VOLT CONSTANT VOLTAGE RATED CURRENT: 5 AMP RATED POWER: 60 WATTS PROTECTION OVER CURRENT: 110% +- 2% HICCUP/FLASH MODE SHORT CIRCUIT: SHUTDOWN, RECOVERS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN FAULT IS REMOVED MAXIMUM OPERATING AMBIENT TEMPERATURE: 60C WARNING TO BE INSTALLED BY QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONELL ONLY. NO USER SERVICABLE PARTS INSIDE. FOLLOW NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODES WITH PROPER WIRE SIZE AND MATERIALS. INSTALLATION AND OPERATION GUIDELINES u u u Attach the unit firmly to the sign application with proper size screws. If the power supply is mounted to a metal surface it must be grounded to the metal surface mechanically with proper screws, bolts. Wire the input of the power supply with standard 3 wire grounded power source. Follow correct wire color code for line, neutral, ground on the label an datasheet. Follow NEC and UL48 standards. Wire leads must be #18 AWG or larger to wire the LED modules. Keep the distance between the power supply and the first LED module as short as possible. Do not exceed more than 6 feet from power supply to first LED module. If more distance is required increase wire guage and follow wiring chart guide. Connect the output (Positive)+ to the (Positive)+ lead of the led module and the output (Negative) – to the (Negative)- lead of the LED module. Follow label color code. Black (Negative), White (Positive). 120-277V Input wire color code, LINE BLUE, NEUTRAL GREY, GROUND GREEN. WARNING (DO NOT CONNECT SERVICE INPUT VOLTAGE TO OUTPUT LEADS OF POWER SUPPLY). WIRING CHART REFERENCE GUIDE DISTANCE LED MODULES TO POWER SUPPLY WIRE GUAGE ESTTIMATED VOLTAGE DROP 6 FEET 16 AWG 5% 18 FEET 14 AWG 5% 30 FEET 12 AWG 5% Recommend using minimum 16 AWG from Power Supply to first LED module to reduce wire resistance. TROUBLESHOOTING The PLN-60-12 has an output short circuit protection circuit with auto-restart feature. A short at the output will shut down the unit and once fault condition is removed unit will auto-restart. The power supply will resume normal operation once the short or fault is corrected. Overloading of the power supply 10% more than beyond the rated power will result in a flashing of the LEDs or hiccup mode until the LED module load is reduced. It is advisable to properly load the power supply to the rated load of the unit for optimum results and operation. LED modules have a rated wattage consumption and calculating the amount of LED modules to reach the rated 60 watt power is advised. To maintain constant voltage of 12vdc and equal LED module brightness levels, the PLN-60-12 unit was designed to go into hiccup mode instead of going into a voltage drop mode or reducing the output voltage to protect the power supply. The voltage drop mode method reduces the brightness level on the LED modules since the output voltage and wattage per modules will be reduced. The hiccup mode method maintains the output voltage at 12vdc and since there is an existing wire resistance scenario this problem is minimized with this method.
