Repeat this procedure for the remaining GMAs. 2.1.3 GMA and PDU Chassis Ground Connection Good grounding of the ClearGain GMA is important to protect the unit against voltage surges. These surges could be caused by, for example, lightning. A ground lug is provided on the front of the chassis for connecting the ground wire to the chassis. Connect the grounding wire to the GMA chassis and route to the ground stud at the front of the enclosure. Page 4 © 2008, ADC Telecommunications, Inc. ADCP-75-242 • Issue 1 • 01/2008 1. Locate the chassis ground lug at the front of the GMA as shown in Figure 2. 2. Attach the ring end of the ground wire to the chassis ground lug using M8 screw and washer (see Figure 2). 22328-A Figure 2. GMA Chassis Ground Stud 3. Route the free end of the chassis grounding wire to ground stud at the front of enclosure. 4. Connect the ground cable under the grounding screw on the PDU front panel. Connect the other end of the cable to the site ground location. 5. Cut ground wires to length and terminate with a #10 ring terminal. 6. Install ground wire between ground stud and enclosure door ground stud. 2.2 Enclosure Ground Connection The following tools are required to complete these procedures: • Wire cutters • Wire stripper • Multimeter Page 5 © 2008, ADC Telecommunications, Inc. ADCP-75-242 • Issue 1 • 01/2008 The following materials are required to complete the procedures in this section: • #6 AWG (4.0 mm) insulated stranded copper wire (for chassis grounding wire) • #10 ring terminal (1) for #6 wire (for chassis ground wire connection) • #10 ring terminals (2 – 6) for #6 wire (for OSP cable ground wire connection) A stud is provided for connecting a grounding wire to the enclosure. Use the following procedure to connect the grounding wire to the enclosure. Route the grounding wire out of the enclosure to an approved earth ground source. Note: Ensure cable entry system frame and compression gasket is installed before routing the ground cable through the opening in the side of the enclosure. 1. Obtain a length of #6 AWG (4.0 mm) insulated stranded copper wire for use as an enclosure grounding wire. 2. Terminate one end of the wire with a ring terminal. 3. Locate the enclosure ground stud. This stud is located inside the enclosure at the front near the bottom close to the door opening. 4. Attach the ring end of the wire to the enclosure ground stud. Secure ground wires to stud with hardware provided. 5. Route the free end of the enclosure grounding wire through one of the openings on the side of enclosure to an approved (per local code or practice) earth ground source. Caution: Do not attempt to replace a layer of the cable seal block, if you accidently remove an extra layer. Once a layer of the seal is removed, if it is reinserted in the seal moisture may enter the enclosure. Remove the seal and start with a new seal block. 6. Cut the enclosure grounding wire to length and connect it to the approved ground source as required by local code or practice. Note: Be sure to maintain reliable grounding. Pay particular attention to ground source connections. Check for continuity between ground stud and earth ground. The ground resistance from ground stud to nearest qualified ground must be less than 0.05 Ohms. 2.2.1 Installing GMA Coaxial Cables Caution: Before connecting any coaxial cables, ensure that the BTS transmitter output is turned off and that precautions are taken to ensure that the transmitter cannot be activated during the equipment installation. Short coaxial jumpers should be pre-made. One will connect the BTS port to the radio and the other will connect the ANT port to the hardline. Most installations require two good quality flexible coax jumpers, normally terminated with 7/16DIN–7/16DIN plug connectors. Check gender of hardline and check if Antenna pigtail is present, adjust accordingly for a correct match. Note: Ensure cable entry system frame and compression gasket is installed before routing the cables through the openings in the sides of the enclosure. Page 6 © 2008, ADC Telecommunications, Inc.
