They will be presented in a “mid-screen format” (smaller than a theater but much bigger than a large screen TV) following a hearty winter feast in our dining room. Each film is selected on the basis of a thought-provoking environmental topic or for breath taking cinematography. A discussion on the environmental themes and implications presented in the movies will follow. Join us for a fun and enlightening evening. Treehaven is a natural resources education, conference, and research center located in the Northwoods between Rhinelander and Tomahawk, Wisconsin. It is operated by the University of WisconsinStevens Point College of Natural Resources. Treehaven rests on a glacial ridge overlooking 1,400 acres of forest and wetlands and offers many public and school programs, credit courses and professional development. TreehavenWinter and Spring Programs Snowshoe Weaving Workshop January 9, 2015 Fri. 7 p.m. - Sun. 1 p.m. Experience the traditional art of snowshoe weaving. Treehaven's snowshoe weaving workshop is woven with a friendly atmosphere, excellent instruction, a historical look at snowshoeing and a hands-on chance to weave your own masterpiece. Each participant will take home one pair of beautiful, functional snowshoes. The three styles of snowshoes you will be able to choose from are: the Ojibwa, the Bear Paw, or the Alaskan. Shoes will be completed with the exception of varnishing. Yoga and the Niyamas... the Path to Joy January 30-February 1, 2015 Fri. 5 p.m. - Sun. 12 p.m. Yoga is a practice designed to bring more awareness to the body and mind. The theme for this retreat will be the second limb of yoga, the Niyamas. The Niyamas can point us in the direction of something more than we are aware of now. We have five seeds to plant and care for in our inner being: Purity, Contentment, Self-discipline, Self-study and Surrender. We will explore these seeds (Niyamas) plus practice Hatha yoga, build community and have fun! Native American Flute Carving Workshop February 27-28, 2015 Fri. 7 p.m. - Sat. 4 p.m. This workshop will allow you to construct your very own flute from a piece of cedar. You will determine the fundamental note and bring your flute to life. No musical experience is required. All you need is the willingness to work with your hands and experience a form of cultural art indigenous to the North American continent. Most materials are furnished but you will need to bring an x-acto knife and blades (number 11 and 17 are required). Through a set of experiences participants will develop understanding, motivation and skills to engage in entrepreneurial leadership for business and community.
