of the Schneider Electric medium voltage offer, our PIX Medium
Voltage switchgear for primary distribution applications ranges from
7.2 kV to 40.5 kV. This switchgear is metal-clad and internal arc tested.
In parallel, Schneider Electric has gained field-proven experience in the
railway segment, delivering solutions to customers ranging from
distribution switchgear, rectifier transformers - up to a complete
substation on request.
Today, combining experience with expertise, we have enhanced our
offer with our direct current switchgear, PIX DC.

Major rail references
From the AC network to your DC outgoing power, you will benefit from

Designed for light rail transit, trolley bus and metro
PIX DC, equipped with a High Speed Circuit Breaker (HSCB), is
dedicated to direct current applications up to 1,500 V and 6,000 A
such as light rail systems or tramways and metros. Aligned with the 650
mm standard circuit breaker cubicle is a disconnector unit of the same
width, as well as a rectifier cubicle of 1000 mm. To allow you to design
your substation with enhanced flexibility, the cubicles can be arranged
in various combinations.

Description
Busbar compartment
PIX DC metal clad switchgear (indoor type) has
four separate compartments:
• High Speed Circuit Breaker compartment
• Busbar compartment
• Cable compartment
• Low voltage compartment (protection and
• control)
The busbar is made of copper with the following
density recommended by EN standards: 1.3 A /
mm² from 3,000 A to 6,500 A.
Resistance for line test can also be installed in
this compartment based on the application or
customer request.
Cable compartment
All the main components are easily accessible
from the front and the panels are suitable for a
back to wall installation.
All operations can be possible from the front
panel.
Access to the cable compartment is possible
from rear and front ( with the CB extracted).
The measuring shunt is inserted in the cable
compartment.
High speed circuit breaker compartment
The single pole 750 or 1,500 V High Speed
Circuit breaker is mounted in a removable
trolley which can be easily drawn in or out of
the cubicle.
Door opening at a minimum of 120° facilitates
the manipulation of the HSCB.
The inspection window in the front door allows
the operator to monitor the circuit breaker
(counter, open/close position, rack-in device
position)
All operations are performed from the front with
the doors closed.
Resistance for line test is included in this
compartment.

Low voltage compartment
PIX DC rectifier panel
The standard low voltage cabinet is available in
three heights, as in our PIX range: 530 / 630 /
730 mm. Other dimensions are available on
request.
The rectifier function is usually ensured by 2
rectifiers (phase difference 30°, performed by
secondary of transformer), which can fit in our
PIX DC 1000 mm width cubicles.
This low voltage cabinet is spacious and all
relay, instrument and control devices are
mounted not higher than 2 m.
This cubicle can be aligned directly with the
disconnector or HSCB panel.

Full integration...
Aligned with our CB cubicle, the disconnector
switchgear can be proposed. One or two
disconnectors can be fitted in the cubicle:
manual and motorized versions are available.
With PIX DC switchgear, Schneider Electric can
equip your entire substation with the electrical
equipment you need: including AC Medium
Voltage switchgear (Air-or Gas-insulated
Switchgear), the transformer, rectifiers, and of
course protection and control systems.
These cubicles are used for negative return
and/or positive busbar supply.
