Bödenkraft “LOFT”
SELF LEVELING DECORATIVE CONCRETE TOPPING
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Cementitious decorative topping for existing concrete floors.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Comply with Section 01330 (01 33 00) - Submittal Procedures.
B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data, including surface preparation and
application instructions.
C. Color Samples: Submit manufacturer's standard Loft or Gem color chart.
Specifier Notes: Delete the applicator's project references submittal if not required.
D. Applicator's Project References: Submit list of successfully completed projects, including
project name and location, name of architect, and type and quantity of decorative concrete
coatings applied.
E. Maintenance: Submit manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
Specifier Notes: Delete applicator's qualifications if not required.
A. Applicator's Qualifications:
1. Successful experience in application of similar decorative concrete toppings.
2. Employ persons trained for application of decorative concrete toppings.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's original, unopened packaging, with labels clearly
identifying product name and manufacturer.
B. Storage: Store materials in clean, dry area indoors in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions. Keep material sealed until ready for use.
C. Handling: Protect materials during handling and application to prevent damage or
contamination.
1.6 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Apply decorative concrete topping and sealer when air temperature is above 50 degrees F.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURER

2.2 DECORATIVE CONCRETE TOPPING
A. Topping: “Loft”.
1. Description: the cement-based, self-drying, self-leveling decorative topping for existing
concrete floors or properly prepared wood substrate.
2. Installation of the cement-based, self-drying, self-leveling topping must be by a qualified,
factory-trained applicator, such as an Bodenkraft
Installer who has specific experience with the installation of Bodenkraft Flooring Systems.
3. Topping shall be able to be installed from 1/4" min. to 1” in one pour for Loft
4. Topping material shall achieve compressive strength of 7,000 in 24 hours and 10,000 psi after 28 days
per ASTMC109/modified (air-cure only).
5. Topping shall be walkable after 2 – 3 hours (70°F) and be able to be coated with the specified sealer
system based on the sealer manufacturer’s installation instructions.
6. Topping shall be installed over structural grade concrete, with a minimum compressive strength of
3000 psi, and a minimum 3/4” solid hardwood, untreated, APA Rated, tongue & groove, Type 1, exterior
grade, plywood, OSB or equal. The subfloor must be free of deflection (minimum L/360), considering
both live and dead loads.
7. Finish or Sealing Coats: After decorative concrete has cured sufficiently, apply finish coats of type
recommended by flooring manufacturer to produce finish matching approved submittal sample and in
number of coats and spreading rates recommended by manufacturer.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine surfaces to receive decorative concrete coating. Notify Architect if surfaces are not
acceptable. Do not begin surface preparation or application until unacceptable conditions have

3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION
A. Ensure concrete is a minimum of 30 days old.
B. Repair surface defects in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
C. Test concrete surface in accordance with manufacturer's instructions after cleaning to ensure
concrete is clean, dry, and will accept decorative concrete coating.
D. Protect surrounding surfaces and baseboards against contact with decorative concrete topping.
E. Remove dirt, dust, debris, oil, grease, glues, loose material, and other surface contaminants.
F. Return to bare concrete previously sealed or painted surfaces by mechanical grinding or shot
blasting.
G. Prepare concrete or wood surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
1. For concrete substrate, apply 2 coats (1 to 1) of Loft WB primer, ethyl vinyl acetate co-polymer for use
as a liquid bonding agent
2. For wood substrates, apply 2 coats of Loft BondTight primer, waterborne acrylic latex co polymer for
use as liquid bonding agent.
3. Apply LockDown and Loft WB primer (pure) if MVER values exceed an 5 lbs./1000 sq. ft./24 hours
3.3 TINTING AND MIXING
A. Tint materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions to produce desired colors.
B. Mix materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
C. Ensure mixture is smooth, lump-free, and uniformly colored.
D. Ensure mixture consistency is in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
E. Do not over water.
3.4 APPLICATION
A. Apply decorative concrete topping in accordance with manufacturer's instructions at locations
indicated on the Drawings.
B. Use gauge rake, smoother and cleated shoes.
C. Allow a minimum of 12 hours after main pour of decorative concrete topping before applying
sealer.
E. Apply sealer in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
F. Ensure surface to receive sealer is clean and dry.
Specifier Notes: Specify the number of coats of sealer. At minimum, apply 2 coats of water based acrylic
sealer and 3 coats of finish
Surfaces for medium protection, apply 1 water based epoxy primer and 1 coat of water based
polyurethane sealer
Surfaces for maximum protection, apply 1 water based epoxy primer and 1 coat of high traffic
polyurethane sealer

3.5 CLEANING
A. Clean sealed surfaces with cleaner as needed in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
3.6 PROTECTION
A. Allow a minimum of 24 hours for sealer to dry before permitting light foot traffic.
Specifier Notes: Maximum hardness of the sealer will be achieved in 7 to 10 days after application.
Use floors with care during this period.
