Dear Swartz Creek Community,
Fall is an exciting time here in Swartz Creek. As the leaves turn color and begin to fall off the trees, students
return to school and begin a brand new year that is filled with adventure and opportunity. Swartz Creek
Community Schools are pleased to offer classes to everyone – regardless of age. Community Education is the best
way to “try” a sport, exercise, or enrichment program. Community Education, where learning and fun never ends!

Registration Information
By Mail - Send a completed registration form with a check, money order, or credit card number to: Swartz Creek Community
Education 8197 Miller Rd. Swartz Creek, MI 48473.
By Phone – To register by phone please call (810) 591-4388 between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through
Friday. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. Payment must be made at time of registration.
In Person – Bring your completed registration form to the Swartz Creek Community Education office located in the Mary
Crapo Building between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday – Friday.
Registration Deadline – The registration deadline is 3 days before the class begins. Most classes have a minimum and
maximum limit to the number of participants allowed. Therefore, any classes which do not meet the minimum enrollment
requirement may be cancelled. Please register as early as possible as registrations will be accepted on a first-pay, first-serve
basis.
Class Confirmation – We do not confirm registrations, please go to your class the first night. You will be contacted ONLY
in the event of a time change, date change, or class cancellation.
Inclement Weather-Cancellations will be announced by TV, Radio, and on www.swartzcreek.org.
Swartz Creek Community Education Refund Policy
Contact the Community Education office regarding class concerns or refund requests. A full refund is guaranteed only if we
cancel a class, or you drop/transfer a class five or more business days before the start of class. There will be no refund, credit
or reduction of fees for classes missed by the student; therefore, classes will not be pro-rated. A $5.00 cancellation fee will be
assessed to each class $50 and under that is cancelled by the participant. A 10% cancellation fee will be assessed for each
class over $50. Additionally, there will be no refunds on or after the start date of class.

Gymnastics – A fun and energetic gymnastics environment involving tumbling, beam, and bars. Learn to jump,
bounce, tumble and balance under the supervision of one of the area’s best gymnastics teacher, Cindy of Heavenly
Tumbles. This is a great way to try gymnastics with minimal investment. Beginners and more advanced students
are welcome to sharpen their skills.

Little Kritters Soccer – Little Kritters Soccer is a unique educational fitness program for 2 – 6 year olds, by
relating the game of soccer to different animals, or “kritters”. This one of a kind program helps children remember
different skills they learn with a soccer ball, so they can build upon their soccer knowledge each week. Each session
will build positive self-esteem, as well as increase communication and motor skills.

Mini Movers- This class develops natural movement, acting and musicality through activities appropriate to the
students’ innate creativity and physical skills. Each weekly class will include creative movement and tap.
Movements are based on classical ballet and theatrical tap with the use of props and stories that inspire expression.
Students will learn about using their bodies, an awareness of space and class etiquette. For children ages 3-4 years.

Leap and Learn-This class further develops natural movement and creative expression. Students expand spatial
awareness to include others around them. Choreography will help students learn to count music, execute patterns of
steps and create shapes with other dancers in space. Each class will include a section in classical ballet and tap,
along with the introduction of the other dance genres such as character dance, modern dance, and social dance. For
children age 5-6 years old.

30 and over Basketball - Bring your friends for 5-on-5 games on a full basketball court. Everyone age 30 and
over is welcome. No need to pre-register, you pay at the door. $4.00 per person per visit, or you can purchase a

Open Gym- Join us at the Cage Fieldhouse for open gym basketball. Adult open gym is for anyone 18 years and
over and will be a structured 5-on-5 Pickup Basketball program. This is a drop in so there is no need to pre-register.
The cost is $4.00 each visit, or you can purchase a punch card worth 10 visits for $30.00.

Coming This Winter!!
Community Education is pleased to announce the return of the Swartz Creek Youth basketball program!
Starting January 2016, we will be offering basketball clinics to children from 4 years old through 6th grade!
Wee-ball is designed for our littlest dragons to learn the fundamentals and beyond. They will learn not to just
play the game but how to excel as a student athlete. Youth Basketball is for 2nd – 6th graders and will focus
on skills necessary to be a successful team player, with scrimmages after every practice. All classes will be
headed up by our very own Lady Dragons Girls Varsity basketball team and coaches. Look for registration
dates in the Winter Community Education Brochure and on our website, www.swartzcreek.org!

Introduction to Rubber Stamping/Card Making- This class is designed for students new to rubber
stamping and card making. Basics of rubber stamping will be covered including various inks, types of stamps, basic
tools and supplies needed to begin their stamping hobby. Lots of hands on practice with inks and stamps. Students
will leave class with projects they have completed themselves, and the confidence of being on their own. Students
will have the opportunity to order any additional supplies they will need for future projects.

Rubber Stamping/Card Making Cutting Class- Designed for students that know the basics of how to
stamp images and are now ready to begin various card making activities. Students will learn to measure, cut and
size paper to create their own beautiful cards, as well as to layer their projects and dress them up with various
embellishments. Students will leave class with completed projects. Supplies to bring: Dry adhesive tape runner,
paper trimmer/scoring tool, bone folder and sharp pointed scissors/paper snips.

Rubber Stamping /Card Making –Learn to use the Big Shot! - Designed for students that are ready to
take their hobby to the next level by learning to use various techniques and tools, such as embossing and die-cutting
tools. Students will complete several projects in class. Supplies to bring: Dry adhesive tape runner, bone folder and
sharp pointed scissors/paper snips.

Photo Organizing/Memory Keeping-Learn to organize all those photos that are sitting on your computer or
in your phone. Get them printed off and into albums for all to enjoy! This class will teach you how to use the
Project Life photo organizing system to do just that! Different than traditional scrapbooking, there is no stress about
where to place photos, what paper to use, products to coordinate, etc. Just add a few embellishments to your photos
and they are done! Get your albums ready for all your holiday photos. Just drop them in! This system is very
simple and affordable. Come see for yourself! Students should bring several 4x6 photos to class.

Extreme Group Personal Training- Achieve your health and fitness goals with the Extreme Group Personal
Training Program. During this 7-week program participants will learn cutting-edge exercises in addition to health
enhancing eating practices that will work together to help them attain their wildest fitness fantasies. Week 1 will
begin with a one-on-one fitness consultation and assessment to be used to set the foundation for developing each
participant’s personalized fitness programming. During the following 6 weeks, participants will be challenged to
achieve weekly, at-home goals (as recommended by the personal trainer and set individually), in addition to
attending the weekly class meetings. Although this class is designed to meet the needs of beginner, intermediate
and advanced exercisers alike, it is for serious participants only and may require a significant time commitment.
But, if you want to see results in just 7 weeks this class is for you! The class has a maximum of six participants.

Adult Beginning Ballet- This beginner level is for adults and high school teens with little or no dance
experience. Basic ballet concepts are incorporated into a full ballet class with exercises at the barre, in the center
and moving across the floor. The core emphasis of this level will be on understanding and improving proper
alignment, posture, rotation and flexibility. Dancers will also expand their ballet vocabulary while learning new
movements and positions

Chakradance-Discover a deeper connection to your true authentic self, the unraveling of blocked energy and the
feeling of coming home. Chakradance is a powerful and authentic healing dance practice that promotes a wonderful
state of calm vitality known as “wellbeing”. Practicing Chakradance can help tune and balance your whole
mind/body/spirit system using spontaneous dance, guided imagery, and music that resonates deeply with each of
the seven major chakras. Participants should bring a cushion or folded blanket to sit on. Chairs will be provided for
those unable to sit on the floor.

Hypnosis for Weight Loss & Smoking Cessation – The first hour you will see demonstrations of
hypnosis and how it is used to make behavioral changes to eliminate the stressors and triggers that cause you to use
tobacco or over eat. Learn how to control stress, worry and depression. Achieve your goals and start living. The
next 30 minutes is for anyone who wants to lose weight. Hypnosis blocks the craving for certain foods that keep
you fat. It eliminates the need to nibble and snack when you aren’t even hungry. Break the habit of eating too much,
eating late at night, eating sweets and junk food, weekend bingeing, eliminate hunger pangs, and eliminate feelings
of being deprived. The last 30 minutes of treatment is for smokers only. Hypnosis will enable you to kick the
smoking habit without experiencing the typical side effects so often associated with quitting. It eliminates cravings,
withdrawals, nervousness, health problems, and being a social outcast. All participants are required to purchase
a hypnosis CD to use for reinforcement at home. The cost of the CD is $10 paid to the instructor the night of

Pickleball - Feel like a champion playing this exciting paddle game called Pickleball! Now you and your friends
can join thousands of other people playing this net court game. Pickleball is a combination of ping pong, tennis, and
badminton and has been enjoyed for over 45 years by people of all ages. Instructors will be on hand to assist
beginners. Equipment is provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own. All players welcome, you do not need to
bring a partner.

How to Design your Own Kitchen- You will learn how to properly measure your space, where to place
appliances and plan for maximum counter space. This class will cover standard and special cabinet sizes, prices and

Kitchen and Bath Association and is a certified and licensed contractor and kitchen and bath designer with over 20
years experience.

The primary objective of Preschool Aquatics is to promote the developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water
safety and aquatic skills by young children about 4 and 5 years of age.

LEARN-TO-SWIM
Swartz Creek Swimming program teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills in a logical progression. It consists of six
levels. Throughout the levels, participants build on their basic skills to learn various propulsive movements on the front, back
and side. As the levels increase, participants learn to refine the different strokes and build endurance. Each level includes exit
skills assessments that put together many of the skills learned in the level.
LEVEL 1 The objectives of Level 1 are to learn basic personal water safety information and skills, to help participants feel
comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. At this level, participants start developing positive attitudes, good
swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.

LEVEL 2 The objective of Level 2 is to give participants success with fundamental skills. Participants learn to float without
support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills and lays the foundation
for future strokes.

LEVEL 3 The objective of Level 3 is to build on previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice.
Participants learn to survival float, swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke. Participants are also introduced to
scissors and dolphin kicks and build on the fundamentals of treading water as well as headfirst entries (diving).

LEVEL 4 The objectives of Level 4 are to improve skills and increase endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl,
elementary backstroke) for greater distances. Participants add the arms to the scissors kick and the sidestroke. Participants

LEVEL 5 The objectives of Level 5 are coordination and refinement of strokes. Participants refine their performance of all
strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase their distances.

Senior Gold Pass
Residents of the Swartz Creek Community School district are invited to be a member of
The “Gold Pass Club” which entitles people age 60 and over to enjoy:
Free Admission to school-related athletic programs.
Enjoy 15% off all non-credit Community Education classes including Pickleball and Open
Gym passes, and Free Admission to Open Swim.
Any eligible senior citizen may receive a gold pass card by showing their drivers license in
the Community Education office in the Mary Crapo building.
The Child Development Center is selling letters from Santa
for $2.00. They will be personalized and signed by Santa
himself. Please turn in your $2.00 and the name and address
of the person receiving the letter to the CDC office at Mary
Crapo Child Development Center - 8197 Miller Road, no later than
December 4, 2015. Letters will be mailed out the week of December 14th. You can
purchase these letters for anyone; your children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren
or friends.
