The C. P. Bourg Document Finisher E-Series (BDFEx) is a fully automated signature booklet
maker, in which stitching, folding, and trimming operations are completed in a single enclosed
unit. The BDFEx requires absolutely no tools for changeover in sheet size or application. It is
touch-screen controlled, and can store settings for up to 500 saved jobs. The BDFEx has a
complete paper path sensing system that ensures document production is monitored
throughout each step of the process. The BDFEx is capable of top or corner stitching from 2 to
55 sheets of 20lb./80gsm paper (22 sheets if folded). The stitcher utilizes a patented selfthreading stitching wire cassette for easy load. This cassette will allow you to produce over
50,000 stitches and it automatically adjusts for various book thicknesses. It will also let you
know when it's almost empty or if it happens to miss a stitch. The Folder utilizes a dual set of
fold rollers that produce square, sharp, accurate folds. Sizing is automatic. The Trimmer
utilizes a unique two blade self-sharpening system that notifies you when stock trimmings are
full and must be removed.
The BDFEx accepts coated or uncoated, 60 to 200 gsm paper in sizes from 4.7” x 8” to 14.0” x
20.4”. Sheets can be folded and saddle stitched to create impressive brochures, calendars or
other booklets up to 14.00” x 10.25” (356 mm x 260mm). Smaller booklets can be printed
two-up for increased productivity. Booklets can be 2 to 22 sheets (80gsm). Built in Face trim
can trim up to 10mm.
With optional four stitch heads, smaller booklets can be printed two-up to increase
productivity. Each BDFEx is delivered with two stitch heads. Additional stitch heads must be
ordered with the booklet maker as this is not an upgrade that can be done in the field. For
high volume machines, Hohner Stitch Heads are recommended. Two or four stitch heads
configurations are available. The optional Hohner Stitch Heads are factory installed and
available on new purchases only.

Bourg Sheet Feeder (BSFEx)
The optional Bourg Sheet Feeder (BSFEx) transports media from up to two stack locations (or
via a bypass transport) to a downstream finishing device.
Bourg Bleed Crease Module (BCMEx)
The optional Bourg Bleed Crease Module (BCMEx) takes traditional stitch-fold, face-trimmed
booklets and transforms them into three-sided, bleed-trimmed booklets with creased covers
and inside sheets that lay flat, stack easily, and help eliminate cracking on printed cover stock.
The BCMEx can crease only the cover or the cover and body pages for a better finished
booklet.
BCMEx Trim Specifications
Square Edge Module (SQEDG)
The optional Square Edge Module (SQEDG) provides an optional square edge spine to produce
the look and feel of a perfect bound book. However, normal, or non-square edge, saddlestitched booklets can still be produced.

Limitations

For 11” x 17”/A3 simplex single fold only documents, paper weights greater than 20 lb. (80
gsm) are recommended.
•
For 8.5” x 11”/A4 simplex single fold only documents, the N-1 face up orientation is
required.
•
Refer to the Nuvera CED for the recommended media list.
•
The BDFEx can only be guaranteed to work to its maximum book thickness (22 sheets)
when feeding 8.5" x 11" / A4 paper if the paper weight is 20 lb. / 80 gsm or less. (Long
grain paper with a weight above 20 lb. / 80 gsm should be tested with the customer paper
and application before selling the BDFEx.)
•
Use of short grain paper is highly recommended for 11 x 17”/A3 sized paper.
System Dependencies and Prerequisites
•
A Finisher Transport Module is required for inline connectivity to the printer.
•
A Xerox Document Stacker 5000 is recommended for stacking.
•
Lift kit (NUV-19) is required to connect the Xerox Tape Binder or eBinder to the DS5000.
•
To enable the Automatic In-line Finishing option, the C.P. Bourg BDFEx JDF Enablement
Kit is required.
•
For high-volume machines, Hohner Stitch Heads are recommended. The optional Hohner
Stitch Heads are factory-installed and available on new purchases only.
NOTE
In case the floor at the customer site is very uneven, it is recommended that the Nuvera printer
be installed and leveled with a Caster Leveling Kit (kit number 498K13720).

when feeding 8.5" x 11" / A4 paper if the paper weight is 20 lb. / 80 gsm or less. (Long
grain paper with a weight above 20 lb. / 80 gsm should be tested with the customer paper
and application before selling the BDFEx.)
•
Use of short grain paper is highly recommended for 11 x 17”/A3 sized paper.
•
When running 8.5x11SEF booklets with an image near the trim line, some jams in the
folder area of the BDFEx may occur. In addition, some extra trim pieces may be delivered
with the book to the conveyor belt.
•
When side-stitching large books (50-55 sheets), damage may be present on the last few
sheets near the staples.
