The uniqueness of this program is that it is run by nationally certified personal trainers at the McPhee Center on the UW-Eau
Claire Campus. Students will get to use the same equipment used in college strength and conditioning programs.
This program runs from mid-June through mid-August. Participants can choose to attend between 1-4 one-hour
classes per week. ECASD students receive 2 classes a week for free! A registration form must be filled out and returned in
order to attend; the form can be found on the Eau Claire YMCA website under the Healthy Living tab. Questions regarding
the Athletic Enhancement program may be directed to Jamie Hoover at 715-833-4842 or jamie.hoover@eauclaireymca.org.
The Eau Claire YMCA also offers a number of Youth Sport skill development programs. In these programs,
participants will not only learn fundamentals but also important skills and values such as the importance of a positive attitude
and how to be a team player. Available programs include:

Grades K-2: Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, and Basketball

Grades 3-8: Volleyball, Football, Soccer, Tennis, and Basketball

Grades K-5: Zumba

Ages 11-14: Youth Strength Training
The Eau Claire YMCA’s new Arts & Enrichment Programs have something for everyone! For students in grades 25, the Y is offering four-day mini-classes each week from mid-June to late August. Elementary students will be given the
opportunity to learn a new language, enhance their writing skills, experiment with cool STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics) projects, sample some new recipes, and express themselves artistically all summer long! Each
week has a new focus or theme, so your summer will be full of surprises! Middle school students will also have the
opportunity to participate in fun new programs that are designed specifically for them and are aimed to entertain and
educate! Whether interested in creative problem-solving and experimentation (Discover! STEM Institute), forging their own
adventures with a pen as their sword (Writer’s Voice), or dabbling in inventive visual artwork (Young Artists Studio), there’s
something for everyone at the Y!
Additionally, the Eau Claire YMCA is happy to offer two other innovative programs this summer. In Y-Rep
Productions: Fractured Fairy Tales, the students take the wheel in terms of writing their own stories and performing them
onstage. Join us as we write our own “fractured” versions of popular fairy tales and children’s stories. As with all Y-Rep
Productions programs, everyone who registers gets a part onstage – no one is cut from the show - and we do our best to
work around scheduling conflicts as well. Gain confidence and leadership skills (as well as a whole slew of new friends!) by
participating in this fun-filled summer show! Or, if acting is not your thing, you can play with us in the dirt this summer! The
Can You Dig It? gardening program will guide participants through planting and caring for their own vegetable garden!
Students will explore the growing process together through many fun activities and projects, as well as try tasty treats straight
from the garden. After all, life is a garden…dig it!
Programs include:

Grades 2-5: Can You Dig It? youth gardening program, Writer’s Voice, Junior!, Explore! Junior STEM Institute, Young
Artists Studio, Junior Chefs, ABCs of ASL (American Sign Language), Learn a Language: Intro to French and Learn a
Language: Intro to Spanish

Ages 8-14: Y-Rep Productions: Fractured Fairy Tales

Grades 6-10: Writer’s Voice, Discover! STEM Institute and Young Artists Studio

Ages 11+: Babysitting

Learning Enhancement and Progression (LEAP) Clinic
The LEAP Clinic provides learners who have difficulty with basic skills with an opportunity to leap forward during the
summer. The program is designed to meet the needs of children and adolescents in grades K-6, including those with mild
disabilities, who could benefit from focused instruction in oral language development, reading, written expression, or
mathematics; but it is not appropriate for students with moderate/severe cognitive or behavioral disabilities. The LEAP
Clinic maintains a low teacher/pupil ratio and places students at an appropriate instructional level. Performance is monitored
daily and parents receive a progress report at the end of the clinic (if students have perfect attendance). The LEAP Clinic
meets from 9:30 am - 11:45 am on Wednesday, June 17, and Monday through Thursday from June 22 - July 23 at Roosevelt
Elementary School. The ECASD will pay the $75.00 tuition for students who reside in the Eau Claire Area School District; out
of district families will pay $100.00 tuition. Parents must pay a $25.00 materials fee. For information, including
registration information, please call 715-836-5719. You cannot register for the LEAP Clinic through the Eau
Claire Area School District. Registration is handled through the University, and will be accepted until April 7 th.
Registration Procedures for LEAP Clinic 2015
 Priority registration will be granted to individual students who attended the LEAP Clinic last year and who maintained
perfect attendance.
 Remaining openings will be filled through a lottery drawing for students who either did not attend the clinic the
previous year, or did not have perfect attendance. This process allows for equal opportunity for those who mail in
their registration forms and eliminates the need to hand deliver the registration forms to the University.
