ImagingLab, in Lodi, Italy, uses its expertise and in-depth knowledge of NI LabVIEW system design software, the strong software core that is a common thread in all NI platforms, to develop successful add-on products that expand the power of LabVIEW. The library was developed in close collaboration with AQSENSE. ImagingLab 3D-MVL, which is based on the porting of AQSENSE SAL3D library, provides a set of tools to acquire and process 3D cloud of points (COP) directly within the LabVIEW environment. The ImagingLab 3D Library is a hardware-independent software architecture compatible with most 3D acquisition technologies: laser triangulation, time of flight, structured light, stereo vision and any other hardware device capable of outputting a COP. 3D-MVL is the first LabVIEW toolkit for COP manipulation. The metric tools available on 3D-MVL allow an easy and accurate 3D calibration with a single scanning of a 3D metric pattern. In today’s trend, machine builders, equipment manufacturers, system integrators and OEMs have an increased need to extend 2D vision to 3D, demanding speed, accuracy and reliability in their vision systems. 3D-MVL responds with a set of 3D machine vision tools to obtain complete, true 3D calibrated data for ultrafast shape analysis and measurements for in-line inspection. Quotes “I have been heavily involved in machine vision with NI since the early 1990s and I have since followed the technological progress in moving from 2D to 3D. 3D imaging has a wide spectrum of applications. A specific need close to our area of activities is the integration of 3D and robotics,” said Ignazio Piacentini, CEO of ImagingLab Italy. “A distinctive advantage of the 3D-MVL is the seamless integration with other LabVIEW tools, like the current LabVIEW Vision Development Module which will include 3D stereo-vision functionalities and dedicated robotics tools. ImagingLab was an early adopter of the underlying concept of the LabVIEW Tools Network with a set of libraries designed to control industrial robot arms. The success of the Robotics Library and our strong relationship with NI have led very recently to the creation of ImagingLab GmbH, which focuses strongly on the LabVIEW Tools Network program.” “3D imaging is one of our main focus areas and we feel that it presents one of the most exciting advancements in the vision market in the past decade,” said Markus Tarin, President and CEO of MoviMED. “The ImagingLab 3D Vision Library for LabVIEW, combined with our high-speed 3D camera technology, has helped us solve new applications that drastically reduce our customer's cost of inspection, while also allowing us to verify part dimension in height in real time down to the micron level.” More About ImagingLab ImagingLab is a high-tech SME, whose mission is to offer its know-how to system integrators, machine builders and to end-users with the need to adopt innovative technologies in the field of machine vision and robotics. The know-how of the company derives from a solid academic background, a wide system integration experience, a deep knowledge of imaging tools and software, especially those of National Instruments, and a continuous effort to keep its personnel up-to-date with the rapidly changing machine vision technology. ImagingLab has an excellent understanding of the global artificial vision marketplace, based on more than 20 years of activity in this sector. The premises of ImagingLab are located in Palazzo Mozzanica, a 14th century building in the center of Lodi, where robots and vision systems share the space with frescos and cross-vaulted ceilings.
