RETROFIT SIGN CONVERSION LED KIT INSTRUCTION
NOTICE TO DITRIBUTORS: When provisioning an LED kit for a customer, include a copy of this
installation sheet and only provide items specified in this manual. No substitutions allowed. Customer
only needs to follow instructions in this installation sheet to assure that converted sign meets CSA
standards for retrofit sign conversion
KIT INSTRUCTION: HOW TO RETROFIT AN APPROVED EXISTING SIGN
CAUTION: Disconnect all power to the sign before beginning conversion to the RHYNO LED lighting
system.
1. Remove sing face
2. Install a disconnect switch if missing.
3. For Neon Signs (including raceway and remote mounted transformer applications) carefully
remove neon tubing, tube supports, GTO wire, bushings, PK housing (if used) and transformers.
Leave transformer box and conduit in remote transformer applications. Needs to comply to CSA
No. 250-13 (8,4,1,2)
For Fluorescent Signs: Carefully remove fluorescent tubes, tube supports, wire covers, output
wire and ballasts.
For LED Signs: Carefully remove power supplies, LED drivers, LED modules, arrays and output
wiring.
Note: Comply with all applicable federal and local regulations when disposing of neon and
fluorescent lighting systems.
4. Remove all debris from the sign. Clean surface of sign interior with an oil free, non-residue
solvent or cleaner, follow manufacturer instructions.
5. Inspect the sign for holes. Fill openings ½ inch or smaller with rated caulk or silicone, follow
manufactures directions. Use metal patch secured with screws or rivets on larger openings. Do
not fill drain holes.
6. Install RHYNO LED Sign retrofit as instructed in this manual.

RHYNO LED SIGN RETROFIT has been designed for installation in channel letters, backlit, box
and double sided signs. The system may be used in non enclosed rated signs as well as reverse
channel letter applications. Direct mounting of LED modules and or driver on plastic sheet is
permitted under suitable conditions.

LED Modules 20per string, approved class 2 power supply suitable for number of modules
required
1. This LED system is suitable for dry or damp locations. Do not mount components where standing
water might occur. All electrical components shall be at least 6.3mm from the bottom of an
outdoor sign.
2. Primary wire must be connected by licensed electrician and comply with National Building Code
and NFPA70 standard, including the use of disconnect switch and enclosures.

3. The LED driver can be mounted in enclosure or non-enclosure rated self-contained channel
letters, box signs, raceway / wire or remote applications.

ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS DURING KIT INSTALLATION”

4. Do not ground output wiring.
“DO NOT CONNECT OUTPUTS OF CLASS 2 LED DRIVERS IN PARALLEL”
5. Input grounding (green) wire of LED driver must be connected to ground.
6. Mount the LED driver using proper size screws (#8 sheet metal screws or pop rivets) Optional
CSA approved mounting methods may also be used. LED modules can be mounted using the
attached peel and stick 3M tape , #6 sheet metal screws or an approved adhesive may also
optional be used.
7. If the LED driver is mounted on metallic surface make sure it is grounded to the metal frame via
ground lug. Typically a straight run of LED modules would be fastened using a screw or rivet in
each end while the middle would be held in place by the attaché 3M adhesive stripe.
8. Observe output polarity.
9. If more than one retrofit kit is to be installed in a sign the polarized connector must be installed
on output of driver to comply with CSA C22.2 No. 250-13, clause 8,4,4.3.
10. DO NOT connect dimmer to input of the LED driver. The driver maintains a constant voltage
regardless of input voltage.

11. DO NOT over load. The driver has overload protection. If maximum number of LED’s per driver
is exceeded the unit will latch off. Maximum number of LED modules per run is 40. See below
for maximum number of LED modules per driver.

HAVE AN INSULATION TEMPERATURE RATING NOT LOWER THAN 90°C (194°F)
UNLESS SUPPLYING A LUMINAIRE MARKED AS SUITABLE FOR A DIFFERENT
INSULATION TEMPERATURE.”
