The IP Telephony Availability System
The Liebert IP Telephony Availability system is designed for
use with Cisco IP telephony equipment. It has met the Cisco
Technology Developer Partner Program test criteria for
interoperability with any Cisco router or switch running Cisco
CallManager Express or Cisco Unity Express. It accommodates
all stackable Cisco switches and routers, including Cisco 1800,
2800, and 3800 Series integrated services routers.
The Liebert IP Telephony Availability System creates a
comprehensive protection environment that includes:

Power protection—Data-center-quality power
protection is provided through the Liebert GXT2, a
compact, rack-mountable, double-conversion online UPS
in sizes ranging from 500 to 6000 VA. Additional run time
is easily added with external battery cabinets, allowing
the IP Telephony Availability System to deliver four or
more hours of battery power. Additionally, Liebert UPSs
use a unique and safe approach to signal a low-battery
condition to routers for graceful shutdowns. Cisco
engineers have tested and approved the interface
between a Liebert UPS and its routers. This interface is
documented in the Liebert UPS and Cisco Unity Express
Shutdown Application Note published by Cisco. Liebert
UPSs signal a low-battery condition to the router in a way
that eliminates the possibility that a surge from the UPS
power supply could damage the router.
Power path redundancy—The Liebert IP Telephony
Availability System includes an external UPS bypass,
which enables power to be routed around the UPS
during UPS maintenance, an essential requirement of any

high-availability system. The rack-mount Liebert Power
Output Distribution (POD) system provides maintenance
bypass capability and power output distribution in two
units of rack space.
Remote monitoring and management—Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Webmanagement communications capabilities are built into
the Liebert IP Telephony Availability System through a
Liebert OpenComms Web card housed within the UPS. It
provides remote monitoring and communications,
including the ability to reboot the protected equipment
by cycling UPS power. Remote monitoring of
environmental conditions is available through Liebert
OpenComms EM, which monitors temperature and
humidity.
Physical security—All of the components of the Liebert
IP Telephony Availability System are mounted in a
lockable Liebert Foundation wall-mount or freestanding
enclosure to prevent unauthorized access to IP
telephony equipment.
Rapid-response maintenance and support—Liebert
products are backed by one of the industry’s best
warranties and supported by a network of local Liebert
representatives and a global service organization. This
network helps to ensure a rapid response to customer
needs for service and support required for highavailability systems.
Racks and Enclosures
The Liebert Foundation is an adaptable enclosure system that
can be configured to meet the needs of virtually any rackmountable computer system. The Foundation Series can
support integrated power protection, cooling, and monitoring to
create a complete self-contained “mini–computer room” to
