A LED based solar street lighting system
consists of a PV Module, control electronics,
battery, and LED based luminaries, all suitably
mounted on a pole. The battery is charged by
electricity generated through the PV module
during day time and the luminaries provides
light from dusk to dawn.

LED: Light Emitting Diode
LEDs are miniature Light Sources made of semi-conductor
material, typically consisting of doped Gallium Nitride materials.
They work on the principle of a p-n junction diode. When
appropriate DC voltage is applied across the junctions, the diode
is forward biased (on state) and the electrons combine with
holes and energy is released in the form of visible light.
This effect is called electro luminescence and color of light is
determined by the band gap of the semiconductor.
LED Lamp:
A LED lamp (also called LED bar or Illuminator) is a type of solid
state lighting (SSL) device that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs)
as the source of light. They usually comprise clusters of LEDs in
a suitable housing.
LEDs by nature emit light in a very small focused wavelength
range that is characteristic of the energy band gap of the
semiconductor. In order to overcome this, two primary methods
of creating white light from LEDs are being used; combination of
Red-Green-Blue LEDs and phosphor converted LEDs.

Instant Start: LEDs are ideal for use in applications that are
subject to frequent on-off cycling, unlike fluorescent lamps that
burn out more quickly when cycled frequently or HID lamps
that require a long time before restarting. Also LEDs and LED
based luminaires can be dimmed easily. LED luminaires can be
designed to focus its light at any desired beam angles (wide to
ultra narrow) using small and compact lenses and mirrors. In
comparison Incandescent and Fluorescent sources require large
external reflector to achieve the same performance.
Environment Friendly - Does not Contain Mercury. Reduced
CO2 emission.
LEDs are shock resistant being solid state components and
hence accidental breaking during transportation and operations
are eliminated.

A LED based solar street lighting system
consists of a PV Module, control electronics,
battery, and LED based luminaries, all suitably
mounted on a pole. The battery is charged by
electricity generated through the PV module
during day time and the luminaries provides
