maintenance systems, men and women with specialized training have
a competitive edge.
This hands-on program teaches both technical theory and skills
needed in modern building operations. In addition to learning
construction math, materials handling and other fundamentals,
you’ll gain experience in electrical systems, HVAC/R, plumbing,
carpentry, welding, landscaping, pest control and appliance repair.
Electrical lab
During the program, students earn key industry certifications and
graduate ready for employment in all types of facilities, from hotels,
country clubs and schools to commercial offices and hospitals.
Residential & Commercial
Electrician
HVAC/R
Good electricians are always in demand. From wiring new homes to
bringing older office buildings up to code, electricians have skills
needed everywhere, for every type of structure.
The heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry
is in constant need of skilled technicians to support a wide range of
residential and commercial clients.
Learn the technology, operation, troubleshooting and repair of
HVAC/R systems. Through hands-on projects in lab and fieldwork
settings, you’ll also gain an understanding of electronics and basic
electricity, indoor air quality, safety and other relevant issues. The
College’s up-to-date lab features a wide range of HVAC/R equipment,
including residential split heating and cooling systems, commercial
water-cooled systems, ice machines, refrigerators and freezers.
If you want great job prospects, consider becoming an HVAC/R
technician. It’s a cool career that’s always hot!
Welding Technology
This nationally recognized program prepares you to work in a
fabrication or repair capacity in a variety of industries, such as
agriculture, aviation, utilities, marine and many more.
You will train in modern facilities featuring individual booths and
equipment for learning all major welding processes, including torch
cutting, MIG/TIG, flux-cored arc, plasma arc and pipe welding.
Taught by certified welding professionals, hands-on lab activities
focus on industry standards and fabrication techniques for welding
carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum metals. You will also
practice for certification testing and learn blueprint reading, metals
identification, and workplace safety and efficiency.
HVAC/R lab
Skilled welders are hard to find and in demand. Once you complete
your training at Palm Beach State, you can go anywhere!
At Palm Beach State, you’ll learn all aspects of the electrical trade,
including terminology and principles, circuitry, proper use of tools
and more. Taught by licensed electricians, students undertake
challenging projects that develop essential skills in wiring
installation and repair for residential and commercial properties.
Program graduates are ready to launch a career in electrical
construction, maintenance, public utilities or contract work.
This program also may be a stepping stone to local electrician
apprenticeship opportunities.
Security & Automation
Systems Technician
Gone are the days when security was a simple lock on the door, and
turning on lights or the A/C required flipping a switch. Now wireless
building technologies control everything, driving the demand for
technicians who can maintain the high-tech systems that keep
homes and businesses safe, energy efficient and easy to manage.
In this program, you’ll master the low-voltage electrical skills
required to install and repair the latest smart technologies, including
remote access control systems, whole house audio and video,
closed-circuit television, nurse call and fire alarms, turnkey gate
automation and intrusion detection systems.
If you’re detail-oriented and like technology, prepare now to enter a
fast-growing field that’s here to stay!
Electrical Power lab
Degrees & College Credit Certificates
This unique program prepares students for entry-level opportunities in
the alternative energy industry. Technicians and others working in the
electrical power industry will gain options for career growth and
advancement. If you decide to continue your education, your credits
can be applied toward the A.S. degree in Electrical Power Technology.
Technical training is just the beginning. When you add management
training to your technical skills, you will increase your job security
and opportunities for advancement.
This A.S. degree focuses on instrumentation and controls—the
technology that keeps machines running safely and correctly.
In addition to power generation and aerospace, students prepare to
enter fields such as electrical or mechanical engineering, and hydraulic
and pneumatic technology, which powers machinery using fluids or
compressed gases. Through lab activities and an emphasis on applied
learning, you will build the knowledge and skills needed in many
dynamic work settings: power plants, wind farm control centers, solar
power plants, smart grid and remote control systems operations, and
helicopter, jet and rocket manufacturers.
In cooperation with local industry, we assist you in obtaining
internships and employment in key positions, such as a technician
in power generation, electronics, engineering, operation controls,
instrumentation, testing, calibration, rotating machinery, and research
and development, or as an engineering assistant. Graduates also may
pursue Palm Beach State’s B.A.S. degree in Supervision and
Management.
