Bids will be accepted no later than 3:00pm, October 12, 2010. Bids are to be mailed to: LuWayne Barber Washington Co. School District Maintenance Department 811 East Brigham Road, Bldg A St. George, UT 84790 or faxed to: 435-652-4729 Questions concerning this bid may be directed to LuWayne Barber, 435-632-1760 or e-mailed to lbarber@maint.washk12.org COOLING TOWER SPECIFICATIONS Furnish one factory assembled, induced draft, crossflow cooling tower with vertical air discharge conforming to the following specifications: Overall dimensions shall be approximately 12 ft. long, 12 ft. wide and 12-14 ft. tall. Tower shall be supplied with all necessary factory installed access doors and entrances for easy servicing and maintenance. Thermal Capacity The cooling tower must be sized to handle a 275 ton chiller with a flow rate of approximately 825 g.p.m. of entering water at 90 degrees and cool the water to 80 degrees with an entering wet bulb temperature of 71 degrees. Unit is to be sized with a 15% reserve capacity. The thermal performance shall be certified by the Cooling Technology Institute in accordance with CTI Certification Standard STD201. The cooling tower shall comply with the energy efficiency requirements of ASHRAE standard 90.1. Corrosion Resistant Construction Unless otherwise noted in this specification, all steel panels and structural members shall be constructed of heavy-gauge galvanized steel with all edges given a protective coating of zinc-rich compound. All seams or joints shall be factory sealed or welded to prevent leakage. Wind and Seismic Forces When supported as recommended, the unit shall be suitable for applications requiring equipment anchorage to withstand wind loads up to 30 psf acting on the full projected direction and with 16 psf acting simultaneously on the full horizontal projected area or seismic forces of 161% of the operating weight acting in the horizontal direction and 24% of the operating weight acting in the vertical direction applied to the center of gravity. Equipment to be suitable for seismic design category D in 2009 IBC/ASCE 7-05. 1 Cold Water Basin The cold water basin shall be constructed of heavy-gauge steel panels and structural members. Basin shall include a depressed section with drain and clean-out connections. Main water outlet connection will be on the bottom. The basin area under the fill material shall be sloped toward the depressed area to facilitate cleaning. The basin shall include a corrosion resistant make-up valve with a large diameter plastic float for easy adjustment of the water level. Alternate Water Basin The cold water basin shall be constructed of heavy-gauge type 304 stainless steel panels and structural members. All factory seams shall be welded to ensure watertight construction and welded seams shall be warranted against leaks for a period of five (5) years from the date of shipment. Basins with bolted seams will not be acceptable. The basin shall include a corrosion resistant make-up water valve with large diameter plastic float for easy adjustment of the operating water level. Basin shall have a depressed area fitted with drain and clean-out connections and shall be sloped under the fill material to facilitate cleaning. The main water connection is to be bottom-mounted. Water Outlet Connection The water outlet connection shall be beveled for welding and grooved for a mechanical coupling or bolt hole circle designed to accept an ASME 150 flat faced flange. The outlet shall be provided with a large area lift out strainer and an anti-vortexing device to prevent air from entering the water system. The strainer and anti-vortexing device shall be constructed of the same material as the cold water basin to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion. Cooling tower is to be supplied with a bottom outlet. Water Distribution System This system shall be furnished with a single water inlet connection. The pipe connection shall be grooved for a mechanical connection and also beveled for welding. The water distribution system shall be built of heavy-gauge galvanized steel and shall be easily serviceable for cleaning. Gravity flow nozzles or pressurized nozzles shall be designed for easy removal and cleaning. Mechanical Equipment All mechanical equipment in the tower, including fan blades, motors(s) fan drive system, pulleys, bearings and sheaves shall be designed for cooling tower service and fabricated from corrosion resistant materials and designed to give maximum life and service. Bearings shall be the self-aligning type with a minimum life of 75,000 hours. Motor(s) shall be of the premium efficiency type rated for inverter duty and shall be totally enclosed air over (TEAO) and rated for cooling tower duty. Motor(s) shall operate on 460-480 volts, 3-phase power. The fan drive system shall be of the one piece multi-groove, solid back Vbelt type with tapered locking sheaves designed for 150% of the motor nameplate horsepower. The drive system shall be supplied with mounts that provide easy adjustment of the V-belt tension. All mechanical parts, including fan blades, motor(s), bearings, and mechanical system supports shall be warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five years from the date of shipment. 2 Fill and Drift Eliminators The fill and drift eliminators shall be constructed from a self-extinguishing material such a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) having a flame spread rating of 5 per ASTM E84. All materials used shall be resistant to rot, decay, fungus and biological attack. All fill and drift eliminator materials shall be tested and designed for water temperatures up to 120 degrees. All fill materials shall be mounted at or above water level to facilitate cleaning. All air inlet louvers and screens shall be designed to prevent water from splashing out during normal operation and shall be constructed from materials that are corrosion resistant and UV protected. Unit shall be supplied with a removable hot dipped galvanized steel mesh (1”x1”) air intake screen or other similar device to prevent debris from entering the tower. As an alternate also include pricing for factory constructed ladders to provide access to motor(s), drive systems, etc. Price to include freight charges to: Hurricane Middle School 395 North 200 West Hurricane, UT 84737 Approved manufacturers are: Baltimore Aircoil Co.
