some of the cost of installation through
GVEC’s Energy Efficiency Rebate program
and/or any government tax credits that are
available for these technologies.
From solar-powered water well pumps and
water heaters to the bigger investment
of solar (PV) panel systems, GVEC can

Why Is It Important?
Did You Know?
Financial Support For Renewable Energy:
The sun’s energy is a renewable resource and a clean
source of power that can provide the energy we need
today and tomorrow. With many areas in Texas receiving
more than 300 days of sunshine a year, harnessing the
sun’s energy for our use is a viable option.
•Solar panels are extremely durable and hail resistant.
GVEC supports our members’ efforts to lead a more
energy-conscious lifestyle. Take advantage of:
How Does It Work?
Photovoltaic (PV) cells in solar panels are made of layers
of semiconductor material that convert sunlight into DC
(direct current) electricity. An inverter converts the DC
power into AC (alternating current) power, which can
then be used by our homes.
Solar Choices
To encourage GVEC members to explore renewable
technologies, Member Service Advisors are available
to provide general information about solar energy, the
technical requirements, and whether solar energy might
be right for you. GVEC also offers Energy Efficiency
Rebates, as available, to help offset the cost of installing
some of the most popular solar choices, including:
Solar Panel Systems—In response to growing member
interest in supplementing their home’s electricity with
solar energy, GVEC Home sells solar (PV) systems.
While most systems won’t power an entire home, they
can help reduce your monthly utility bill.
Solar Water Heaters—An option for homes using a lot
of water. Cold water is piped to a solar collector where
it is warmed by the sun before being sent to the water
tank. If the water isn’t warm enough, a conventional
water heater turns on.
Solar Water Well Pumps—An alternative to power a
remote water well where electric power is not accessible.
•Many systems offer a 25-year power output warranty
and 10-year installation warranty in addition to
manufacturer warranties.
•Solar systems are easy to maintain.
•Solar systems are interconnected to the electric system.
If there is an electric outage, your solar system will shut
down to protect lineman while they restore power.
•Excess energy your home doesn’t use can be sold back
to most electric providers. GVEC members can sell back
energy to GVEC at the current wholesale power rate.
•Solar systems must be custom designed for maximum
benefit, taking into account such things as a home’s
orientation, the amount of sun received and roof design.
•Installation practices vary. GVEC recommends running
wires in conduits to protect the system from animals and
the elements. We also recommend mounting solar panels
on racks, rather than nailing them directly into roofs.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems*
•Rebates of $1.00/Watt—up to maximum
$4,000 (4kW)
Solar Water Heaters
• Rebates of $1,000/Water Heater
Solar Water Well Pumps
• Rebates of $750/Unit
Government Support:
Federal tax credits and government grants may also be
available for energy-efficient home improvements. Get
more details at www.energy.gov.
*GVEC Rebates are subject to change or may be discontinued
without notice. For program details or to apply for your
renewable rebate, visit GVEC’s Rebate Center on

Systems from GVEC Home
•The cost for the average system is $14,000 to $20,000.
•The cost can be further reduced by GVEC’s member
rebate, when available, which can reduce the payback
period.
Solar alternatives can be significant investments.
Make your purchase from a partner you can trust for
reliable information, installation, and service.
•Once a system is installed, GVEC members typically
save $40 to $60 a month on utility bills.
•GVEC Home offers financing through Wells Fargo with
approved credit.
