PRE-K PROGRAM OUTLINE
Our Daily Routine
Summary of Program:
The program is designed to prepare children for kindergarten with readiness
skills such as scissor skills, name recognition, printing letters, recognition of
capital and lower case letters, numbers, colors and shapes. Social structure
skills are reinforced to ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten. Our class
takes approximately 3 field trips to SRAE to interact with the kindergarten
children.
Arrival procedures:
Each child begins our day with returning a folder which carries papers, notes
and projects to and from school. Also upon arrival students find their name to
place on our board for attendance. These repetitive actions reinforce name
recognition and the concept of responsibility.
Dramatic free play:
While children are arriving at school, various activities are available for them to
explore, including blocks, puzzles, kitchen area, a play-dough table, coloring or
painting and games such as hop scotch or bean bag toss tic tac toe. These
activities encourage development of peer interaction through sharing and
taking turns.
Circle Time:
Our structured class time begins with morning circle time. We begin with a
book and then go over the daily calendar, current events as appropriate, days of
the week, months of the year, the letter of the week, counting, and our morning
songs.
Fine Motor Skill Development:
Daily seat work will incorporate some of the following fine motor manipulatives:
scissor skills, building blocks, lacing cards, tracer pages, drawing/painting and
counting small objects.
Large Motor Skill Development:
Physical movement is a great way for preschoolers to learn. We incorporate
music into our daily routine to promote learning through movement. Dancing,
bean bags and rhythm sticks help to keep us moving.
Snack:
Each child will be assigned a snack day. Students help in preparing and serving
snacks to the class as means of encouraging manners and social interaction.
Clearances:
Any parent wishing to volunteer in the classroom for centers or parties MUST
have their Criminal and Child Abuse clearances.
