This conference assembles the heavy and extra heavy oil community to document
our collective knowledge and best practices in the field. You will have the opportunity
to enrich your understanding and find ideas to improve productivities and recovery
factors of these abundant but challenging reservoirs that encompass more than 60%
of the world’s oil resources.
We have balanced technical- and business-oriented perspectives to accompany the
increased attention to viscous oil reservoirs. The aim is to improve skills to develop,
produce, transport, and upgrade economically and with energy efficiency the heavy
oil and extra heavy oil resources while creating minimal social and environmental
impacts.
The program committee received and reviewed an impressive number of high-quality
technical paper proposals in the planning of this conference. We sincerely appreciate
all of you who took the time to submit your work. These peer-recognized papers are
the backbone of SPE conferences.
On behalf of the program committee, thank you for attending this inaugural event,
the ideal venue to share your company’s latest technological accomplishments and to
provide exposure to regional oil and gas providers and international executives. Enjoy
the conference!
Sincerely,

Inflow Control Devices: Performance Experiences in Latin America
Session Moderators: Francisco Alberto Porturas, Halliburton; Ramon Homero Correa, AGIP
Oil Ecuador
Inflow control devices (ICDs) have been installed to balance fluid flow along horizontal
sections of wells with the aim of increasing oil production rates, delaying the effects
of water cusping, and thus increasing the recovery factors. Petroamazonas, AGIP and
Repsol (Ecuador) and Pacific Rubiales (Colombia) will present a status of experiences,
performance and future trends in their respective oil fields. Cases from consolidated and
non-consolidated reservoirs covering a range of fluid viscosities will be discussed. This
informative panel will be followed by a Q/A session giving the conference participants
the opportunity to learn from real challenges.
Panelists: Cesar Anebal Calvachi-Guerra, Andes Petroleum Ecuador Ltd; Carlos Andres
Izurieta, AGIP Oil Ecuador BV; Francisco Jose Paz, Petroamazonas EP; Roberto Peñaranda,
Repsol; Jorge Alberto Flores, Pacific Rubiales Energy
