New Mexico State University Set Up DSL Wireless Routers in NMSU Residences You may choose to purchase a DSL/wireless router for your residence. Below are instructions to set up three routers which you might purchase. Note: You don’t have to purchase one of the routers below but these are routers that have been tested by ICT CENTURYLINK: Actiontec DSL Modem and Router Model Number: C1000A 1. Get the power cord from your DSL Kit and plug the cord into the black port marked Power and the other end into a power outlet. 2. Get the black or gray phone cable from your DSL kit and plug one end of the cable into the green port marked DSL. 3. Plug the other end of your black or gray phone cable directly into the phone jack closest to where you will be using your computer. 4. Turn the device on and make sure that the Power and DSL light are solid green. This may take up to 30 seconds. New Mexico State University 5. Connect to your wireless device by left clicking the wireless icon on your computer. Next, left click the name of your wireless device. This name is the SSID, located on the bottom of your wireless device. 6. Finally, you will be prompted to enter a Network Security Key. This key is located at the bottom of your wireless device, labeled Key/passphrase. 7. Once you’ve connected to your device, open a web browser and type http://netreg.nmsu.edu/start.html in the URL address bar to go to the NMSU Network Registration page. Follow the steps to register. When you have successfully registered your device, reboot your device and computer. New Mexico State University 8. Reconnect your device and computer by going through steps 4-7 again. 9. Wait for a few minutes for your device to adjust. If you have not used your computer on campus, you may need to register your computer as well, reboot, and repeat steps 8-10. 10. You will now be connected to NMSU Internet. 11. New Mexico State University NETGEAR N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+Modem Router Model Number: DGND3700v2 1. Please register your wireless device with the ICT Help Desk at (575)646-HELP. Use number on the bottom of your wireless device labeled MAC Address when asked by the Help Desk. 2. Get the power cord from your DSL kit and plug the cord into the black port marked Power and the other end into a power outlet. 3. Get the black or gray phone cable from your DSL kit and plug one end of the cable into the gray port marked ADSL. 4. Plug the other end of your black or gray phone cable directly into the phone jack closest to where you will be using your computer. New Mexico State University 5. Turn the device on and make sure that the Power and 2.4GHz lights are solid green. This may take up to 30 seconds. 6. Connect to your wireless device by left clicking the wireless icon on your computer. Next, left click the name of your wireless device. This name is the WiFi Network Nam (SSID), located on the bottom of your wireless device. 7. Finally, you will be prompted to enter a Network Security Key. Use the NETGEAR Genie to help you set up a connection. This process may take a while. Please reboot your wireless device after connecting to make sure it has taken the registration. If you have any problems, you may want to connect using a LAN connection. 9. Once you have successfully connected, you will be prompted to register your device a second time through http://netreg.nmsu.edu/start.html. Note: If you have not used your computer on campus, you may need to register your computer as well, reboot and repeat steps 5-9 New Mexico State University 10. Reboot and connect to your wireless device using steps 2-8. 11. You will now be connected to NMSU Internet. 12. Get the power cord from your DSL kit and plug the cord into the black port marked 12VDC1A and the other end into a power outlet. 3. Get the black or gray phone cable from your DSL kit and plug one end of the cable into the gray port marked Phone. New Mexico State University 4. Plug the other end of your black or gray phone cable directly into the phone jack closest to where you will be using your computer. 5. Connect to http://192.168.0.1/index_wizard.html using any Internet browser and use the Auto configure your Gateway option to help you set up a connection. This process may take a while.
