Title: Electronic Systems Install Technician – Level 2
Reports To: Project Manager
Class: Full-Time (M-F: 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

Primary Role:
Responsible for the installation of electronic communications equipment, including but not limited to,
cable, AV, Video and lighting. The Install Technician is responsible for installing the products in the most
efficient and effective manner. All installations must meet the highest quality standards set forth by AVE,
while assuring a professional and safe working environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform assembly, installation and repair of equipment, materials and systems as directed, specified
and required in the work orders and project documentation
2. Responsible for reading and understanding assigned project documentation and work orders, and
determine if additional information is required
3. Coordinate with Project Manager for scheduling assigned projects with the customers and arrange for
material delivery, tools and equipment needed. Advise Project Manager of requests for shop labor,
equipment, engineering and sales assistance
4. Attend regular job meetings when required
5. Inform Project Manager of any problems and concerns with assigned projects
6. Supply Design Department with updated information for as-built drawings and documentation for
assigned projects
7. Ensure customer sign-off on completed projects and that Operation and Maintenance Manuals are
delivered
8. Responsible for reporting daily time and activity to the Coordinator and updating project database
information
9. Maintain a professional image and build good customer relationships
10. Provide product and system education and in-service training for co-workers, customers and end
users
11. Actively participate in personal and professional development and maintain knowledge of current and
new technologies that AVE offers
12. Comply with company policies, as well as health and safety issues
13. Begin to demonstrate the mastery beyond technology in all aspects of job
14. Must comply with all required licensing requirements
15. Promotes a team environment
16. Other duties as required or assigned
It is assumed that individual meets all of Level One Requirements
AUDIO
1. Mixing consoles – Digital and Analog console navigation including knowledge of Aux Sends (pre
and post fade), EQ adjustment, inserts, PFL/AFL, gain structure, sub-groups, matrixes and onboard effects.
2. Effects processors – basic knowledge of compressors, delays, limiters, reverb, feedback
eliminators and gates.
3. Mics – All types, methods of use and patterns
4. Wireless distribution – including proper frequency and squelch setup, antenna placement, use of
antenna combiners and amplifiers.
5. Amp and Desk Rack building/wiring – proficient in building and wiring large audio, video, data and
control racks following blueprint guidelines, proper grounding methods, electrical code and
Infocomm’s A/V best practice methods.
6. Amplifiers – knowledge of amplifier types and settings for inputs and outputs including
dipswitches
7. Speaker circuits – knowledge of 70V systems including calculating channel loads (for speaker
tapping, amp loading and volume controls). A basic understanding of impedance and
series/parallel circuits. Understand biamp/triamp for speakers.
8. DSP programs – ability to connect with a laptop to a new or existing DSP and build a skeleton
program and/or navigate for testing purposes or service.
9. Rigging and Trussing – understand the AVE best practice for rigging which include using crimping
swages, rope clips, mousing, proper use of turnbuckles, unistrut, eye bolts, aircraft cable type,
thimbles, shackles, span sets and chain motors. Basic understanding of bolt grades and reading
the ratings on hardware as well as using a minimum 5 to 1 safety factor.
VIDEO
1. Video Displays and Projection systems – proficient in hanging displays and projectors using
proper brackets. Able to set up contrast, color and focus using computer test slides. Understand
throw distance calculations, lens shift, lens types and proper way to find projector location in
respect to screens.
2. Video Switchers/Scalers/Scan Converters and Matrix Switchers – proficient in setup and
operation of and have an understanding of the video types and capabilities.
3. Video over UTP – knowledge of proper pinouts required, wire type and distance limitations, setup
of receivers (EQ and Level) and distribution.
LIGHTING
1. ETC plans – able to read ETC drawings and follow wiring diagrams and cut sheets
2. ETC terminations – proficient in rack wiring/terminations including DMX repeaters
Networking/IT
1. Network Switches, networking, remote access and VPN – basic understanding including
changing IP addresses on equipment and laptops
OTHER
1. Preventative Maintenance – Maintenance of customer equipment (ex. Clean projector filter,
amplifiers, change out project lamp)
2. Ability to lead small jobs – be the Lead Tech on jobs under $50K which includes coordination with
the P.M., Design Engineer, GC onsite, Electrician, owner and other techs assisting.
3. Testing – responsible for operation of Oscilloscope, Multimeter, Impedance Meter, RF Meter to
test and document readings.
4. Troubleshooting – ability to troubleshoot issues over the phone or on-site with customers. Use
resources available to gather information helpful to the service call (background, tools,
replacement piece when in stock, etc.).
5. Meet installation deadlines and use proper communication paths for information
6. As-Builts – responsible for turning in accurate as-built (red-lined) drawings to the Design Engineer
Accountability:
The Electronic Systems Technician Level 2 will be accountable to the Project Manager. Secondary
accountability will be to the other management team members, employees and customers of the
company.
Qualifications:
The Electronic Systems Technician Level 2 shall possess: (1) a two-year electronics degree or equivalent
combination of education; (2) a minimum of 3 years of related field experience; (4) a Minnesota Power
Limited Technician License or be able to test for it; (4) Infocomm CST Certification; and (5) a working
knowledge of communications systems is required.
Travel:
Up to 50% out of town travel required.
