MASTER OF SCIENCE IN Electronic Systems Engineering Milano Leonardo Campus Presentation The Electronic Systems Engineering programme provides students with a broad range of skills in analog, digital and programmable electronic systems with emphasis on applications in automation and control engineering. Such specialized knowledge and skills, along with a solid background in electrical and mechanical engineering, makes the Electronic Systems Engineer a highly versatile specialist able to succeed in a wide range of professional activities, spanning from the development of complex analog and digital systems for control of industrial processes to the design of electronics for automotive and intelligent transport systems; from the development of optoelectronic systems for solar energy technologies to the applications of electronics in efficient power management and power conversion. An ever increasing number of professional profiles require such a multidisciplinary capability and know-how for facing the multiple challenges met in today’s rapidly changing scenarios. By stimulating project work integrating various fields, the training aims to develop students’ critical mind, so as to be able to design, model, carry through and experimentally validate complex devices, equipments and systems. Students attending the Electronic Systems Engineering programme will have access to all the facilities of the Politecnico di Milano (computer equipped rooms, libraries, study rooms, sport facilities). Several courses include laboratory activities that will be carried out in computer equipped rooms or in experimental laboratories. The entire programme is taught in English. Mission and goals The field of systems engineering addresses the current trend towards increasing complexity that is found in a variety of disciplines, including transports, energy, environment, biosciences etc. The aim of the Electronic Systems Engineering program is to prepare future professionals with a sound multidisciplinary knowledge that will enable them to successfully deal with the complex needs of today’s industrial environment. The Electronic Systems Engineering program covers four main areas, which have been identified as fundamental for the next generation of technology leaders: - Analog and mixed-signal front-ends for signal acquisition and processing - Digital programmable electronics for system control and data processing - Power electronics and optoelectronics for energy management, conversion and generation - Advanced sensors for industrial and environmental applications Career Opportunities Thanks to the depth and breadth of their education, training and experience, MSEE graduates may undertake a broad range of functions in small medium enterprises and large multinational companies with a strong focus on innovation. Graduates will be able to start their career in several fields including, but not limited to: - - - - - - - - - - - Advanced electronic systems Power conversion Power management of alternative energy sources Optoelectronic systems Industrial automation Automotive electronics and control Intelligent transport systems Mechatronics and robotics Electronic control for appliances Environmental monitoring Home automation Eligible students Prospective students with a Bachelor of Science Degree in a related area are required to undergo a selection process that evaluates their curriculum vitae as well as their academic records. Such selection process follows the general regulations of the Politecnico di Milano and the specific rules of the 5th School of Engineering (Facoltà di Ingegneria dell’Informazione). Tuition fees For EU students regular fees are based on students’ family income and range from about € 800 to € 3,300 per year. For Non-EU students regular fees are € 3,300 per year. Students obtaining a scholarship will have to pay only an administrative tuition fee of about € 150.
