HOSPITAL GENERAL MANAGER, WITH A FUNCTIONAL REPORTING LINE TO
THE REGIONAL TECHNICAL MANAGER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES






















Management of all hospital facilities, clinical infrastructure and assets.
Management of all staff in the Technical Services Department.
Proper planning of resources according to PAS 55 principles
Proper staff training, development and performance assessment to ensure the correct skills are provided for
specific job by:
o Developing workplace skills plan for all staff
o Development of succession planning and skills transfer of staff
o Coaching and mentoring all technical staff
o Ensuring that all technical staff are trained to be legall competent for the specific roles
o Training of other hospital staff on technical related issues.
Managing Technical related Purchasing and Expenditure.
Management of contractor performance.
Implementation of Group Policy and Procedures to manage and maintain the hospital facilities and assets,
specifically relating to Sections 22, 23 and 53.Enforcement of Group Policies and Procedures to staff
members as well as contractors to ensure mitigatin of all risks.
Management of risks related to Hospital Technical infrastructure and assets related to all plant and
equipment (Clinical and non-clinical).
Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Quality and safety assurance during and after completion of contracts.
Safety custodian of all projects at the facility
Project management of all small building projects
Financial and budgetary responsibility for the technical services department
Custodian of the asset management database on the CMMS ensuring reliability and validity of all data
Management of all the maintenance management system and ensuring that all equipment risks are
managed to ensure that all repair and maintenance is conducted as and when required
Professional interaction with colleagues, staff and clients.
Professional and effective service to all customers.
Training and assisting of Technical staff where required.
Preparing monthly reports and as requested, reports on staff, contractors, facility and assets of the hospital.
Attending Hospital and Regional meetings and inter-departmental interaction with Management with specific
reference to nursing, health and safety and infection control.
Ensure professional technical conduct at all times.
Keeping up to date with all Netcare’s evolving policies and procedures

Keeping up to date with all relevant hospital engineering technologies
Ensure continuous improvement of department and optimisation of all processes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE









National diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
A minimum of 4 years relevant technical and managerial experience in the hospital or hospitality industry.
Eligible to become a member of the South African Federation of Hospital Engineers.
Qualification that will provide the ability to act as “the competent person” as described in the Occupational
Health and Safety Act.
Experience in both the electrical and mechanical engineering environments in related industries as
specified.
Previous experience in financial budgeting
Computer Literate.
Conversant with the principles of maintenance and asset management aspects
Understanding of energy and water management.
