LP Mini Downlight System – maximum ambiance in mini size 1 2 Less is more For decades, Louis Poulsen has been known and esteemed for its lighting product families offering various sizes and shapes of the same design idiom. The availability of multiple sizes in a given fixture design allows architects to overcome aesthetic challenges when seeking to design a space in an unintrusive way. A uniform design in different variants provides the opportunity to create unique atmospheres for rooms and buildings. The possibilities are endless with the new LP Mini Downlight generation of iconic designs from Louis Poulsen. LP Mini Downlights with maximum performance. Less is more. 3 4 A bouquet of icons The MINI’s have been created in homage to the established icons. BALLERUP, MUNKEGAARD, STRATA, OSLO: all products with enduring design. They have proven to provide a fantastic adaptability to enduring architectural styles and appear today as long lasting alternatives to many other products, simply due to their originality in every detail and care for light. 5 6 KEY FEATURES High energy efficiency • diffuse, comfortable light distribution • several LDP components offering great flexibility in a range of lighting looks • LDP units require no tools for installation • minimalist design • great architectural versatility • ideal for repetitive installations • 4 iconic LDP components 7 The LP mini space The LP MINI DOWNLIGHT concept is based on one lighting unit that can be paired with a variety of trims or LDPs from our iconic product program. The housing unit will work with any of the five design trims including a Basic flat surface and the iconic Micros. This LP MINI DOWNLIGHT program lends itself to creative freedom in light design planning. Using the Basic version as a general installation you are free to give each room or location its own lighting identity. You can change the atmosphere, the look, the ambiance, the concept with one single installation and just add the LDP. And though several of the LDPs are family members with larger fixtures you can, due to the efficacy of the lighting unit, make the total general installation based only on the LP Mini DOWNLIGHT concept. 8 LP Mini Downlight Unit LDP – Light Distribution Parts 9 Electronic driver Aluminium heat sink COB LED/CRI > 90 CRI > 90 10 Maximum power – minimal appearance The concept of the lighting unit is based on the COB (Chip On Board) LED that, in spite of their long life, can be easily replaced if technology’s energy efficiency overtakes technical lifetime. With the newly developed LP MINI DOWNLIGHT concept, Louis Poulsen has succeeded in creating luminaires of minimal size with maximum performance without compromising the comfort and pleasant appearance of the light. The performance is so powerful that the LP MINI DOWNLIGHT version of each of these icons can easily be a solution in itself and deliver a unique lighting performance in ceilings with minimal appearance. With a CRI > 90, rendering of colours and textures in the space has been kept at a high level. 11 12 P: Lars Kaslov Basically a simple solution The LP MINI DOWNLIGHT concept is based on a high performance LED downlight unit in a premium quality combined with high efficacy. The LP MINI DOWNLIGHT BASIC downlight can easily work alone and will be delivered with a discreet and elegant ring (Basic) that creates a clean and aesthetic connection to the ceiling. For the creation of optimal comfort space atmosphere LP MINI DOWNLIGHT is available in one colour temperature: warm white 3000K CRI > 90. By choosing the LP MINI DOWNLIGHT BASIC as a general installation you are investing in future lighting design solutions. You are able to create a different and new atmosphere by changing out the trim with a simple grip. The variety of LDPs allows future opportunities and creativity. 13 14 BASIC MINI Designed specially for the LP MINI DOWNLIGHT system. A simple and aesthetic solution which conceals the fixture’s ceiling mounting surface. BASIC MINI provides a simple and almost invisible interface close to the ceiling surface. The BASIC MINI LDP ring is painted in a white hue which harmonises with most white ceiling surfaces, offering maximum anonymity around the ceiling light points. It has no impact on the light distribution, thereby permitting the maximum light output from the LED light source and offering the greatest lumen package of all LDP units. BASIC MINI can be used as a general interface for the entire ceiling surface or in combination with other LDP units, without creating unnecessary visual interference due to its simple design. 15 Ballerup Mini Designed by P. Hougaard Nielsen and C. J. Nørgaard Pedersen in 1963 for the Ballerup Gymnasium. The architects specialized in building schools and education facilities and became the standard for educational building design for Copenhagen. Their work was based on educational development at that time and the need for flexibility. BALLERUP in its original size was intended as a general room light and, in spite of its very simple structure, the fixture manages to combine a powerful downlight with ceiling surface light, and therefore is both functional and decorative lighting. Today it is used in many hallways and reception areas. 16 17 18 Munkegaard Mini Designed by world famous architect Arne Jacobsen. MUNKEGAARD was and remains a true original. While it has been copied in many ways, it has clearly been the inspiration for many excellent lighting fixtures. The architectural input to the lighting in the celebrated listed Munkegaard school in Gentofte created the concept of the ceiling based light, which resulted in the ceiling becoming an important part of the architectural experience of the space. The new MINI maintains the basic concept of diffusing the light through an opal shield and is available with the known and designed iconic metal ring in satin chrome so it can match installations with other sizes in the MUNKEGAARD FAMILY, creating a soft and beautiful distribution of luminance from the actual fixture. 19 Strata Mini From the beginning, the architect and designer Alfred Homann began to see light as a major factor in the experience of space in a room. With the STRATA he created a lighting concept with a genius design that solved a specific problem for low ceiling heights. Also, Alfred Homann included the ceiling as an important part and detail in the perception of the space of the room. The fixture brilliantly emits light in the shape of the characteristic three rings, and the decorative light distribution on the ceiling is beautifully preserved. This feel-good appearance is consequently maintained in the new STRATA MINI. 20 21 22 Oslo Mini In the context of a larger project for Gjensidige Insurance, architect and designer Kurt Nørregaard developed the OSLO FAMILY that has strong references to the lighting concepts of Poul Henningsen. This comes as no surprise because Kurt Nørregaard was employed by Louis Poulsen for many years as a consultant on the development and interpretation of Poul Henningsen’s many drawings and ideas. However, in a way one can say that he turned it all upside down. Focusing on the ceiling and indirect light distribution inspired Kurt Nørregaard to create a product line with an un precedented high level of lighting comfort and atmosphere-creating effect. His starting point was the same as Poul Henningsen, namely the burning point of the filament. Therefore, it has not been so easy to update the OSLO FAMILIES for LEDs, since the lighting now comes from a “flatter surface”. OSLO MINI retains the amazing light, the minimal and yet very beautiful harmonious design. It is a fixture that has a quiet, but iconic appearance at the ceiling level. The increased power of the LED version will undoubtedly be inspirational for many to create overall aesthetic lighting solutions with this simply designed fixture. 23 Strata Mini Ballerup Mini Basic Actual sizes 24 Oslo Mini Munkegaard Mini 25 26 LEDs create true experiences The colour reproduction characteristics of LED light sources have brought interior design colours back into the total experience of the room again. And a CRI >90 gives the room’s colours the best conditions. Daylight The LP MINI DOWNLIGHT series is supplied with a colour temperature of 3000K, which is called a ’warm white’. The smooth transitions in the spectral curves between blue, green, yellow and red ensure that middle hues also stand out clearly, making LEDs not only a highly energy efficient light source, but also the right choice when you want to experience the world as naturally as possible. 3000K 1800K 4000K 5500K 8000K 12000K 16000K 27 Maximum Lighting Performance – for today and tomorrow The LP MINI DOWNLIGHT concept is a new generation of lighting solutions that embrace the need for architecturally designed ceiling light systems that are energy efficient with ample opportunity for creative design applications. The fixtures are big on light output, comfort and functionality, while embracing a minimal appearance. With the use of the COB-LED light sources your installation is easily adapted to technology advances. With the variety of iconic LDPs, you have a myriad of opportunities to create lighting experiences that benefit both humans and architecture. 28 BASIC. Symmetrical and directed downward providing maximum light distribution. BALLERUP MINI. Symmetrical and directed downwards. The vertical three-layer handblown glass cylinder provides a soft and comfortable light on the ceiling around the fixture, as well as reducing glare for passers-by. MUNKEGAARD MINI. The fixture emits diffuse and comfortable light directed downwards. The white opal acrylic disc provides an even illumination of the surface. The opal disc appears to hover below the ceiling, due to its suspended placement, allowing light to slip out through the gap between the disc and the fixture. This results in a different visual experience. STRATA MINI. The light distribution is diffuse and symmetrical. The rings reduce glare for passers-by. The surface of the rings also reflects some light towards the ceiling, providing the illusion of higher ceiling height. OSLO MINI. The fixture emits a narrow band of light directed downwards. The reflector rings direct a small amount of light towards the ceiling, creating a soft, harmonic transition between the fixture and ceiling. They also reduce the angle of glare, minimizing any annoyance to passers-by. 29 LP MINI DOWNLIGHT Design: Louis Poulsen. LDP: Basic Mini/Louis Poulsen, Strata Mini/Alfred Homann, Ballerup Mini/ C.J.
