PHOTOCOUPLERS WITH 3.3V DRIVE AND ULTRA LOW POWER CONSUMPTION
PHOTOCOUPLERS WITH SINK AND SOURCE LOGIC
Toshiba offers many Photocouplers that can operate from both 3.3V and 5V power supplies. Since these
Photocouplers can be used in mixed 3.3/5V systems, you can use common parts across different product lines.
Toshiba also offers an extensive lineup of Photocouplers with an LED current as low as 1mA by leveraging the
characteristics of high-power LEDs. These Photocouplers can be directly driven by a Microcontroller without an
intervening buffer and help reduce system power consumption.
Sink logic (primarily in Japan) or source logic (primarily outside of Japan) may be used for interfacing with PLCs and
industrial equipment. However, the LED on the input side of a conventional high-speed Photocoupler is
unidirectional. Thus, to accommodate both sink and source signals, a bridge circuit must be inserted before the LED
in the Photocoupler. To address this problem, Toshiba offers Photocouplers that contain two LEDs in an antiparallel
configuration. These Photocouplers eliminate the need for an on-board bridge circuit and thus help reduce the board
size and system costs.
