University Physics II 750:214 Summer 2016 Class meets M,T,W,Th 1:00 to 3:20PMSmith 220 . Dr. John Rollino e-mail: jrollino@andromeda.rutgers.edu Smith 357 Office #: 973 - 353 -1573 : Course objectives : To study the laws of physics which is the foundation for all other sciences. This will accomplished by investigating physical systems and using mathematical methods to predict outcomes and formulate designs to produce desired outcomes. This is done primarily by problem solving. This will include the use of calculus. Text: Halliday & Resnick. Fundamentals of Physics, 10th ed. J. Wiley. The following chapters in the text will be discussed in class and problems will be assigned for homework. Answers for the homework will be found on Blackboard. It is required that you read the material before we discuss it in class. Success in this course requires that assigned problems be worked out before they are discussed in recitation. Please deactivate all cell phones, pagers, etc. during class and especially during exams. Attendance at each class and recitation is required and will be monitored. Attendance entails arriving on time and leaving when the class is finished. Class exams will taken from the material covered in class. Please turn off cell phones, beepers, etc. during class. If one of these devices goes off during an exam you may be instructed to leave the room and forfeit your score. Each of the exams will be on the material listed before it - realizing that each exam is essentially cumulative Your score will be computed as follows: Two class exams 25 % each Quizzes(recitation) 20 % Final Exam 30 % Total score 100 % . Please turn off all cell phones, beepers, etc. during class. If the device goes off during an exam the owner will be dismissed from the exam and the exam grade will be zero. Once your total score is computed I will assign grades according to the following scale: A B+ B C+ C D F 88 and above 80 – 87 74 – 79 65 – 73 50 – 64 40 – 49 <40 UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE CHILDREN TO BE BROUGHT TO CLASS.
