Our History
Research and Development
HERNIS was founded by three experienced
offshore workers in 1982. During the first
years, the company had an intensive pro
duct development phase, and soon mana
ged to develop products that set a new
standard within the CCTV technology. In
1990 the company had its big breakthrough
in the export market, with a significant
growth in turnover and number of
employees. Starting out in the offshore
segment on the Norwegian Continental
Shelf, the company soon expanded into the
marine and onshore sectors, and today
HERNIS is recognised as a world leading
manufacturer of CCTV systems for offshore
and petroleum related installations. The
financial strength is the result of an
aggressive marketing strategy assisted by the
employment of a worldwide network of
agents covering HERNIS’ export markets.
As such, the company’s prospects for the
future are very good.
HERNIS is dedicated to market driven
development anticipating the direction of
the market and improving our range of
equipment to exceed our customers’
expectations. HERNIS will seek to obtain
partnering agreements with key suppliers
within our market segments. The
collaboration shall enable HERNIS to
present new functionality to our customers,
and also enable our partners to introduce
HERNIS products to new markets.
Part of Cooper Industries
As of January 2011 HERNIS is a part of
Cooper Industries. HERNIS will be a part
of the Cooper Safety division that specializes
in solutions designed to save lives and
protect property. Cooper Safety enjoys and
enviable reputation for quality and

third-party net
• to focus on system functionality, image
quality and system reliability
• to integrate value-added subsystems
CCTV Technology
CCTV facilitates centralized monitoring
from one or several control stations installed
locally or remotely, providing complete
view of all areas and processes on ships,
offshore installations, production plants
and refineries.
HERNIS’ new generation modular CCTV
architecture offers multi-CCTV-systemaccess. The user logs on to his local CCTV
system, but can access and control any
external HERNIS 500 CCTV system that
he is authorized for. The user is hence able
to control a virtually unlimited number of
cameras spread over vast geographical areas.
One operator monitoring all critical areas
from a central control point can respond to
a series of simultaneous events more
efficiently than a number of individuals
located in the field, improving efficiency,
safety and ensuring increased productivity.
HERNIS pioneered the integration of
CCTV into other computerized systems
and today HERNIS CCTV systems can be
fully integrated into existing systems like
management systems, distributed control
systems, process control and fire, gas and
intruder alarms.

Hernis Analogue and Digital Control Systems
HERNIS is an experienced provid
er of CCTV solutions. Over the
years we have developed control
systems suitable for different req
uirements with respect to size,
complexity and available infra
structure.
Today we can offer numerous solutions
based on analogue or digital technology. In
many cases both types of technologies are
also combined within one system.
Our focus is to be able to present an
optimized package with respect to the image
quality, user friendliness and life-cycle cost.
HERNIS 500 System
The HERNIS 500 digital CCTV system
eliminates the need for a traditional
analogue video matrix utilising the common
infrastructure provided by an Ethernet
backbone. The HERNIS 500 NVR encodes
the video signal, which can be streamed to
hard disc and/or directly to the network/
backbone. The image quality from each
encoder can be individually controlled and
set to transmit at various rates depending
on user requirements.
For operations where no latency is tolerated
on the video stream, the HERNIS 500
system can incorporate an analogue
subsystem for cameras.

HERNIS 400 System
The HERNIS 400 CCTV system is an
analogue system consisting of an analogue
video matrix and a PC based system server.
The internal communication of the
HERNIS 400 system operates on a
Controlled Area Network (CAN) making it
easy to add new communication nodes for
camera stations and control panels. The
modular design enables easy and virtually
limitless expansion and use of decentralized
systems. Its integration capabilities to
external systems such as drilling, process,
automation, security and safety systems on
serial, TCP/IP, I/O or relay interfaces,
makes the HERNIS 400 a versatile system.
The 400 system can be remotely controlled
(slave) constituting a part of larger CCTV
systems, or it can be used to control other
systems (master). It can further be
configured as a hybrid system including
both analogue and digital (IP based)
features. By including an NVR you allow
for simultaneous recording and streaming
of all cameras. A programmable text
generator enables camera names, prepositions and alarms to be shown in the
video image adding to the operator’s level of
control. The 400 system matrix may be
equipped with audio. A redundant CPU
makes the system less susceptible to
hardware failures thus improving the
systems overall uptime.

HERNIS 400 Compact
The HERNIS 400 Compact is a downscaled version of the HERNIS 400 analogue
system, developed to serve as the centre of a
medium sized CCTV system. The compact
system has no PC and slightly limited
functionality. It is possible to connect 16 or
32 camera stations and 16 monitors in the
system. Any camera station within the
HERNIS product range can be used. On
the control side it is possible to fit monitors
of suitable size and operate the system from
any HERNIS control panel.
HERNIS can also offer a hybrid solution
combining the digital HERNIS 500 System
with the analogue HERNIS 400 System.
This combined solution offers both the
clarity of an analogue video system and lets
you utilize all aspects of a digital cctv
system.

HERNIS Leakage Detection
HERNIS Flare Monitoring
DVR-M2
HERNIS Leakage Detection combines
remote surveillance, image analysis and
digital storage in one system. Typical
applications are smoke detection and oil
leakage detection, where preventing fire
outbreaks is vital. When an irregularity is
detected the video sequence is immediately
displayed on the monitor, and the person
on duty is notified by an alarm. The alarm
image includes the date and time the alarm
was triggered, camera position and a short
description of the situation. Time is a
critical factor, and with HERNIS Leakage
Detection you can immediately examine
the video image to make fast decisions and
take appropriate action.
As an important feature to our flare
surveillance systems HERNIS offers Intelli
gent Flare Monitoring.
The system uses an IR sensitive camera,
which only reproduces rays emitted from
the heat of the flare, discarding the rays of
visible light, like reflections, shifting weather
conditions, or the general difference between
day and night time that would otherwise
influence/disturb the surveillance. The video
image is fed to and analysed by a PC with
special software suitable for this purpose. In
the event that the flare stops burning, the
operators are notified by an alarm. The
incident may also be recorded.
The 2-channel digital video recorder is a
simple and cost efficient way of upgrading
CCTV systems that have been relying on
VCR technology. The recorder is also a
practical stand alone recorder for smaller
CCTV systems. The recorder is compatible
with any HERNIS control system and may
be operated via the VCR/DVR function on
HERNIS’ control panels. The recording
capacity is 21 days high quality video and
the DVR-M2 comes with an easily
replaceable hard disc.

HERNIS Perimeter Securing
HERNIS offers Perimeter Securing for
marine vessels and petroleum related
installations on- and offshore. HERNIS
Perimeter Securing is customised to meet
the customer’s security philosophy and may
be integrated into the general surveillance
system at the site. Unique for HERNIS is
the pre- and post alarm recording facility
that enables operators to watch recordings
of events leading up to and following an
alarm.
DVR-M Multichannel Digital
Video Recorder
Unique for HERNIS CCTV is the DVR-M
Multichannel digital video recorder. The
HERNIS recording device is capable of
recording up to 16 individual channels
simultaneously at full frame rate. The
recorder is operated via any HERNIS
control panel and is integrated in our
Control Software. Offering a wide range of
hard-disk capacity HERNIS CCTV
recording facilities really stand out.
HERNIS is pleased to be releasing our new
Multi Video Decoder for the HERNIS 500
system. The component is designed to
decode streamed video to composite video
and represents a cost-saving means of
utilizing existing analogue monitors in IP
systems.
The decoder provides excellent image
quality with very low latency and is capable
of decoding up to 16 video streams
simultaneously. This makes it a low cost
alternative when multiple channels are
required. To illustrate its’ capacity, one
HERNIS Multi Video Decoder can replace
16 PCs with monitor applications
traditionally required for analogue video
outputs from a HERNIS 500 system. The
unit thus also saves space.

standard and an advanced edition. Like the
name says this application is used to manage
alarms triggered in the CCTV system.
HERNIS Alarm Management Standard
This application provides instant overview
of alarms in the system. The user can easily
select any cameras activated by an alarm
and get close-ups of the situation. The view
can be split by choice so that multiple video
images can be displayed simultaneously.
Alarm acknowledgement, easy access to
recordings, etc makes this an important tool
for the CCTV operator.
HERNIS Alarm Management (HAM)
Advanced
The Advanced edition offers mapnavigation. Alarms are displayed as symbols
in the maps and active alarms are pointed
out to the operator providing instant access
to the cameras on site. Moreover, the
advanced edition lets you manage alarms in
all CCTV systems connected to your own.
HERNIS Sea Touch
HERNIS Sea Touch is also used for camera
control, the main attribute of this
application, however, is that is adds touchscreen-functionality to your CCTV system.
All camera stations installed at the location
are indicated in a map or drawing making it
very easy to identify and select cameras by
touching the screen. If an alarm is activated
this will automatically be flagged in the
map enabling instant visualization of the
critical location. Alarms are easily
acknowledged by interacting directly with
the symbols on the screen after taking the
appropriate measures.
HERNIS Masterview Basic
HERNIS Masterview Basic sets the standard
for user-friendly operation of small CCTV
systems. Together with a very intuitive user
interface its’ touch-screen attribute makes
this application well suited for drilling
operators. The downscaled version of
SeaTouch gives preference to video images
and ease of use. Features like in-video pan
& tilt, direct preset activation and direct
quad activation make operation intuitive
and easy. Like Sea Touch, Masterview Basic
is fully touch-enabled hence requiring no
mouse or keyboard. The application can
connect to HERNIS systems using comport
or network making it compatible with all
our current control systems (HERNIS 500,
HERNIS 400, HERNIS 400 Compact and
HERNIS 8x8).
Maintenance Software
Development Software
HERNIS System Maintenance (HSM)
The HERNIS System Maintenance
application provides close supervision of the
CCTV system’s operating status.
Operational failures anywhere in the system
- be it camera stations, operating panels or
computers - are detected and logged for
easy reference. Having malfunctions
pinpointed in such detail allows for highly
effective diagnosing and problem solving
decreasing the downtime normally brought
on by operational failures.
The System Maintenance application is
further used for remote updating of software
on field equipment such as camera stations
and control nodes, making it perfect for
unmanned systems. HERNIS recommends
this cost–saver for the HERNIS 400 and
500 systems.
HERNIS Software Development Kit
The HERNIS Software Development Kit is
software containing the information and
examples you need to develop your own
User Interface (UI) to the HERNIS
400/500 System. The kit enables
implementers to control and to some extent
configure the HERNIS system.
Each use of the developed interface requires
a license.
HERNIS Event Log Program
The Event Log helps you keep track of
changes made by users of the system, alarms
and other events. The program is designed
to run without user intervention. The
collected data is stored in a database and
presented to the users in a HELP Viewer.

The Reference line
REFERENCE is a product line set
apart from HERNIS’ CCTV
assortment. The REFERENCE
products are based on a patented
wireless power transmission
technology by the Norwegian
company WPC and constitute
multifunctional solutions directed
towards potentially explosive work
areas.
The line thus far includes Ex
torches and chargers characterized
by advanced operational capacities,
reduced maintenance requirements
and specialized safety features.
TX/CX 40 Torch & Charger
The REFERENCE torch and charger
system is the only system on the market that
is certified to recharge within Ex zones. The
system uses galvanic power transfer, a high
efficiency induction technology that allows
recharging within Zone 1 hazardous
environments, and operation under Zone 0
conditions.
Safe
The REFERENCE torch and charger
solution should be an important part of
your safety program. In the event of a
power outage the torch will automatically
turn on to illuminate its location. The Ex
torch and charger can be sealed with a
securing wire on location, focusing its
application towards emergency lighting.
Maintenance free
The Reference torch and charger has been
developed with low maintenance in mind.
Intelligent routines regularly perform tests
on both torch and charger to monitor the
system’s condition. Complex charging
routines are performed at scheduled
intervals to ensure optimal battery capacity,
and to maintain long term durability.
Statoil has implemented the TX40/CX40 solution as standard portable emergency equipment at
Visund oilrig
Reliable & Efficient
The wireless power transfer eliminates
conductivity
problems
commonly
experienced with exposure to saltwater, oil
spill, mud and extreme conditions. The
REFERENCE torches furthermore use the
latest LED technology to ensure optimal
performance and operation time. Combined
with a 4° lens the torch provides a bright
uniform beam of light on any targeted
surface. Adjustable bracket and belt clip
makes the TX40 a practical work light.
TX40
TX/CX20 Torch & Charger
The lightweight TX20 torch has been
designed to supplement the TX40, in work
as well as emergency situations. This small
torch of only 150 grams can easily be
clipped on to your helmet and will quickly
become a welcome part of your work
clothes. With a 5° lens the TX20 will
provide a wider more general beam of light
than its big brother, making it fit for
localization and navigation.
TX20
The accompanying CX20 charger is capable
of keeping and recharging three torches at a
time, saving cost and demanding less space.
Like the TX40 the TX20 torch will turn on
automatically in the event of a power
outage. After 3 hours the TX20 will shut
down to avoid complete battery drainage if
not in use.
