We will cover most of chapters 0-6. Grades Grades will be based on weekly homework assignments, a midterm exam, and a final exam. Homework will count for 6% and each exam will count for 20%. Homework Homework will usually be assigned on Thursday and will be due by the end of class the following Thursday. No late homework will be accepted. The two lowest homework scores will be dropped. Homework must be stapled and clearly labelled with your name. This is a masters level course in which homework counts for the majority of your grade. You should expect every homework assignment to include problems that cannot be solved in a single sitting. You must start homework assignments early to have enough time to think about problems and ask questions if needed. Corrections If you believe there is a mistake on any grading, you have two weeks from when the item is handed back to bring it to my attention. Academic Integrity You are encouraged to work with other students on homework assignments. If you do work with others, you still need to write up the solutions on your own, independently, and in your own words. You must indicate on your homework all sources of assistance you received while completing other than the textbook, the professor, and the TA. This includes listing students you worked with on problems. Some students may like to read other textbooks, look at notes from other algebra courses people have posted online, and so on. This can be very helpful, and is permitted (as long as outside sources are noted on the homework), but be careful that it does not turn into cheating. In particular, do not read solutions to problems that have been posted online or ask online fora for help on particular problems. 1 Special Accommodations If you have a documented disability for which you are or may be requesting an accommodation, you are encouraged to contact Student Disabilities Services as soon as possible, and within the first two weeks of the course. 2
