Technical Data Sheet SYNALOX™ 50-B Series Lubricant Product Description SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricants are alcohol started materials containing oxyethylene and oxypropylene groups with a single terminal hydroxyl group having the structure: CH3 | RO-[CH2CHO]n [CH2CH2O]m-H These are polyalkylene glycol (PAG)-based products that can aid formulators in meeting today’s demand for high performance lubricants. SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricants features a high viscosity index, low pour point, clean burn properties, inverse water solubility, low surface tension and low foam characteristics and can be used in wide range of applications, including but not limited to: ● Textile lubricants ● Gear/bearing lubricants ● Polyethylene extrusion aid ● Metalworking fluids ● Rubber lubricants ● Mold release agents Applications and Uses SYNALOX™ Lubricants are used as lubricant base-stocks in dozens of industries where they contribute a variety of performance properties. SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricants are designed with special characteristics that make it an excellent choice as a base-stock in textile lubricants. They lubricate polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene multifilament yarns, especially in texturizing operations and can also be used on woolens and cellulosics. The inverse water solubility, good heat transfer properties and inherent lubricity characteristics enable excellent metal working fluids to be produced from aqueous solutions of SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricant. SYNALOX™ 50-30B and 50-50B have been used as an extrusion aid in the production of extruded polyethylene. SYNALOX™ 50-100B and 50-155B applications include use as a lubricant or mold release agent of rubber hoses and tires and as a gear and bearing lubricant, especially in high operating temperatures or in high loading environments. SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricants offer the advantage of being biodegradable in neat products. SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricants are more soluble in cold water than in hot water, if inverse water solubility is required. An aqueous solution of SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricant will have a low surface tension and thus good wetting and penetration characteristics, while also exhibiting low foaming characteristics. In high temperature applications where decomposition can occur, SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricants typically do not leave black carbon or sticky residues. The decomposition products are volatile or are solubilized into the base-stock. Oxidation stability can be improved by the inclusion of anti-oxidants. Dow recognizes the importance of using additive technology to enhance the performance of lubricant base-stocks and has developed technical expertise in this field. As a result, Dow can offer advice regarding performance-enhancing additives for use with SYNALOX™ 50-xB Lubricants.
