Education Specifications
Education Specifications
Education Specifications translate program functions into space needs and outline a set of standard
around which architects and consultants shall design future school facilities. District leadership staff and
teachers were engaged in the process of defining program functions and space needs through interviews
and workshops.

Capacity Analysis
Enrollment
TK-5 enrollment in Berkeley is
projected to remain consistent /
stable through the 2018-19
school year. Based on the
District’s projections, BUSD
needs capacity to house up to
4,545 students in the 2018-19
school year.

Capacity Analysis
Do we need to build more classrooms?

Questions For The Board
The information presented here demonstrates the capacity of BUSD
elementary schools with a variety of options for alternate use
classrooms.
●
What questions do you have regarding the capacity assessment
or ed specs?
●
We will return on 6/29 for a discussion about how best to use
the 2020 Bonar facilities and what direction the Board wants to
give staff with respect to 2020 Bonar.
