Names of academic advisors will be posted on BUUIC’s board at 1 st Floor. Students are required to check the advisors’ names every semester and meet with them before the registration. In case of students would like to withdraw the subjects before Final Examination must be approved by the advisors only. Students can meet their advisors in two ways as follows: By office hour (will be posted in front of Instructors’ Office). By appointment. Student code of conduct In order to ensure high academic standards and integrity, while maintaining a peaceful, healthy and safe environment for every member of Burapha University International College (BUUIC) community, the BUUIC code of conduct is followed. Please read carefully to fully understand and remember the code of conduct, as you are required to strictly adhere by them. Attendance You are expected to attend every class meeting during the semester following your class schedule and as arranged by your instructors. Being absent from a class, arriving late or leaving early will affect your studies. Each instructor will make his/her attendance policy clear at the beginning of the semester. Following the Commission on Higher Education (CHE) and Burapha University policy, missing 20% of classes will mean that you will be disqualified from sitting for the final exam. The policy is built upon the Commission on Higher Education, Ministry of Education’s requirement that students who do not attend at least 80% of their classes will be disqualified to sit for the final exam. Academic Integrity You are always expected to do your own work. Any form of copying, cheating, lying about sources, allowing other students to copy from you, getting advance copies of exam or tests, bribing staff or faculty to get exam copies or answers, changing grades, buying or selling exams or other assignments, using “small note” during an exam, using mobile phones, or any other form of cheating is strictly prohibited. Plagiarism Plagiarizing, which is copying your work from another person or source without providing a proper reference, or having someone else write your papers or do work for you is wrong. You will face disciplinary actions by losing points, getting a failing grade in the course, or even by being suspended or expelled from the college. Academic conduct You are expected to be respectful and polite to your fellow students and your lecturers in the classroom as well as outside class. If you disrupt a class by not following your lecturer’s directions, starting an argument, using your mobile phone, or in any other way, you may be barred from the classBurapha University International College Student Handbook 9 10 room and losing points (or) receive a failing grade for the class. Alcohol policy Burapha University and BUUIC follows the Thai law and the guidelines of the Commission on Higher Education. Consumption, possession, sale, and promotion of all alcoholic beverages on campus are strictly prohibited. Drug policy Narcotics and recreational drugs of any sort, including marijuana may not be kept, used or sold anywhere on campus. Thai law for drugs is strictly prohibited and can even lead to the death penalty. Smoking policy Smoking is strongly discouraged on campus. It is one of the worst things you can do to damage your body. Tobacco products are not sold on campus. You are absolutely not allowed to smoke anywhere in the BUUIC building. If you really need to smoke, you may smoke in a clearly designated outdoor smoking area only. Disorderly conduct At all time you are expected to behave in an adult manner and not be disruptive or disorderly. Loud or indecent conduct, public rudeness, drunkenness or misbehavior that disturbs the general peace of the others on campus is considerate and wrong. Uniform and behavioral rules Students must wear the assigned uniform and treat it with respect. Excuses that a uniform piece in the laundry is no longer accepted. Students must ensure that they purchase a sufficient amount of each uniform item to assure compliance with the policy. Personal hygiene is very important and students are encouraged to practice stringent hygiene standards. Students must behave appropriately at all times as they are ambassadors of BUUIC. Speaking in a loud voice and using inappropriate, impolite language while in uniform is forbidden. Correct posture including standing upright, not slouching is to be strictly respected while in uniform. Also students should let elders go first and pay respect to seniors at all times. Punctuality Punctuality is strictly for BUUIC Students as moral standard. Therefore, means that BUUIC students have to attend classes regularly “on–time” as mentioned further on the procedures of moral behavior for students. BUUIC Uniqueness Burapha University International College (BUUIC) follows the university policy in defining uniqueness as follow: Learning source for Marine Science of the ASEAN Community Moral Behavior for Students Burapha University International College (BUUIC) recognizes the importance of punctuality and has set it as moral standard for BUUIC students. Therefore, to embed this behavior in students, the punctuality rule in classes by rewarding students who are always punctual and penalizing students who are not. Scholarships Each academic year, a limited number of scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate excellence in academics, sports, special talents, or meet certain requirements for specific scholarships offered in that academic year. The Office of Student Affairs is the main contact point for scholarship students regarding required work obligations, annual scholarship review, and general issues/ concerns. Each year BUUIC also offer a number of scholarships for students with outstanding academic merit, students with excellent leadership and those who demonstrate high at the core value through their performances. From above, the scholarships will be start given for Second (2nd) – Forth (4th) year students and about 50 scholarships will be provided every year. To better understand the business environment in the worldwide you will also study Cross Cultural Management. The final year in France is focused on sharpening your skills through the coursework on International Financial Market, International Trade Techniques (import & export), International Trade law with the lastest changes in Europe add in the world and International HRM to develop your competency on management and performance in international business environments. Half of the program is though the e-learning with the La Trobe University to obtain an addition Degree from the Australian University. Admission: Meet the requirement of the international College of Burapha University, with no age limit and no discrimination as regards nationality. To apply at Monpellier Business School, you must validate two academic years in the International College. Applying Procedures to Montpellier Business School: 1. Submit an application Form to the BUUIC office. To include with your Application Form: - A Cover Letter - A Curriculum Vitae - A Transcript of Records from the BUUIC - A certificate of TOEFL (with a score of at least 500 (Paper-based); 65 (ibt-based) or an IELTS certificate with a score of 6/9 or a Certificate of English Proficiency test (level 7/10). - Copy of passport or ID card. 2 - If you are eligible, you will be contacted to take an Individual interview. Period of application: From January to June Burapha University International College Student Handbook 20 Student Visa and other required documents Non Immigrant Visa (Non-ED) Student can get Non Immigrant visa (Non-ED) from the Immigration office which will allow you to stay in Thailand for one year. Document required for Non-ED: 1. Official letter concerned requesting for a visa (Provide by the college). 2. Copy of all passport pages 3. Student’s GPA which can print from http://reg.buu.ac.th 4. A completed TM-7 form with 2” photo Fee for NON-ED Visa is 1,900 baht (fee is subject to change without notice) 90 days - Student who has stayed in Thailand over 90 days must notify his residence to immigration officer every 90 days and makes notification in person. - The notification must be made within 7 days before or after the period of 90 days expires. - The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days. If student staying in Thailand over 90 days without notifying the immigration office or notifying later than the set period, fine of 2000 baht will be collected. (Fine is subject to change without notice) Fee for 90 days is 1,000 baht (fee is subject to change without notice) Re-entry Permit If student plan to travel outside Thailand, a re-entry permit must be obtained from the immigration office before you leave Thailand. There are two kind of Re-entry permit 1. Single re-entry permit: student need to get re-entry permit each time before you leave Thailand. Fee is 1,000 baht. (fee is subject to change without notice) 2. Multiple re-entry permit: when student get this permit , you can leave Thailand as much as you want during non-ED visa period without doing it again. Fee is 3,800 baht. (fee is subject to change without notice) Burapha University International College Student Handbook 21 Health Insurance 22 Health Insurance for foreign student is provided by the college. Student must pay exclusively 2,500 baht for the insurance each year. Student can use insurance card only at hospital and clinic that are listed such as Burapha University Hospital and Phayathai Hospital (Sriracha). Name of hospitals and clinic can be checked at BUUIC office. In addition, it is important to have student card or passport to certify yourself when you are using the insurance card. In case student does not have the card with yourself when you go to the clinic, following documents are required for claiming insurance. 1. Receipt of the payment 2. Certification letter from the doctor 3. The banks provide financial service’s such as transferring money, opening savings accounts, depositing and withdrawing money. Other Banking facilities such as ATM’s are available on campus. Payment of University fees can be made electronically through this machine. Other services including health insurance and travel services are also provided. Health care The Health Center, with a capacity equivalent to that of a 150-bed hospital, is an organization concentrating on research as well as the provision of health services for students, university personnel, and the general public. The University, through the University Hospital which is located on campus, provides medical services round the clock. Post office There is a Post Office located on campus in the President’s Building, serving students and faculty during normal government office hours (weekday’s 08.30-16.30 hrs.). Eating There are numerous cafeterias situated in different buildings, as well as a central cafeteria, to provide food services for students. There are many types of student accommodation available around the campus. The cost varies, according to the size of the room and amenities provided. Eating around the campus Many restaurants are located around or near the campus. Students can find many kinds of food such as, noodle’s, hot pot, barbecue, bakery shop and fast food. The main area where you can find places to eat areThe Main Gate of the University Opposite the main gate, students can find many different food stalls. These food stalls are normally operated in the evening. The recommended menu’s are Noodle’s, Phad- Thai, Som-tam , Moo Yang , Kow moo Dang, Kow Man Kai, etc. (Please see the food description in the appendix) Just three minutes walk from the main gate, students can find the local shopping mall, Leam Thong Mall which has some fast food store’s such as Black Canyon, KFC, Swensen, and Hot Pot. Sod Sai Market From the Side Gate (besides the Academic Service center) students can find Sod Sai Market, in this market students can find plenty of quick service restaurants and coffee shops. They are a variety of menus, such as quick service menus, Kaw Man Kai, hot pot, steak, noodle’s, etc. At Sod Sai Market, besides food, students can find convenience stores, stationary stores, laundry services and internet service shops. Living in Bangsaen Transportation Red Minibus ( Songthaew ) A minibus is a passenger carrying motor vehicle that is designed to carry more people than a minivan, but fewer people than a full-size bus. Minibuses have a seating capacity of between 8 and 10 seats. They can transfer you from Bangsean Beach to Chonburi City. Burapha University International College Student Handbook 27 Local Bus 28 Local buses can generally seat a maximum of anywhere from 30 to 60 passengers. They can transfer you to Bangkok and around Chonburi. Other destinations include Pattaya and Sriracha. The bus fees vary depending on distance. Motorbike taxi (Mor-tor-side-rub-jang) Students can find Motorbike taxis everywhere in the Bangsean area, such as outside department stores, at the entrance of a large soi (road), by the exit to university, etc. and as such are easily found. To use one, simply walk up and state your destination and make sure to agree the price with the driver first. Fares are up for negotiation, but generally they work out cheaper than the minibus for short distances. The fee for a motorbike taxi around the campus is about 10 baht. Van A kind of vehicle used for transporting goods or groups of people to the big city. Besides catching the local bus to Bangkok, a ‘Private Van’ is another alternative. Students can catch the van at the van station next to Burapha’s University Hospital and in front of Leamtong Mall . The van will take you to Victory Monument, the fee is approximately 120 Baht per person. This area is a famous vacation destination in Thailand, Bangsaen Beach , was the first holiday resort in the country . With its clean beach and developed road along the beach people from different parts of the country come to visit. Many activities are available on the beach, such as Banana Boat, Jet Ski, Bicycle riding. Just 10-15 minutes walk or 5 minutes on the minibus students can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Bangsaen, the beach and delicious seafood from the local restaurants. Laem Thaen Next to the area of Bang Saen Beach near Khao Sam Muk. It is a cape reaching out to the sea where pavilions for relaxation and restaurants are situated. A lot of people come to fish in the area. From June 2009 students can find the local Walking street (flee market) every Friday and Saturday evening . Khosammuk is a low hillock situated between Ang Sila and Bang Saen Beach , along the road facing the seashore. Thai Food Thai food is famous throughout the world. Eating is an important part of the Thai lifestyle and culture so you can find a variety of dishes that are different from one region to another. Thai food is often thought of as being spicy, but actually it can range from bland, sweet and sour, to very spicy. As a foreigner you could try to eat Thai dishes without chili or with a small amount of chili “Mai Ped”(not spicy) in the beginning. Local Bus fee is approximately 20 Baht. At Central Chonburi store there are Tops supermarket, SF cinema, Restaurant, Beauty shop and a variety of fashionable products. Tesco lotus express At Sod Sai market there is a Tesco Lotus Express. This is a small store open 24 hours a day and has convenient services for the nearby residential areas. Big- C Big C offers a clean, comfortable shopping environment with a wide assortment of goods available at reasonable prices. Mai- (kha/krup) Burapha University International College Student Handbook 36 Burapha University Regulations for Undergraduate Studies B.E. 2555 ------------------------As the regulations are appropriately issued for undergraduate studies at Burapha University, and through the authority rendered from Burapha University Act B.E. 2550 Item 32(2) and 21(2), the Committee of Burapha University Council in the meeting 4/2551, dated 25 July 2551, has established the regulations as follows: 1. These regulations are entitled: “The Regulations of Burapha University for Undergraduate Studies at B.E. 2555”. 2. The regulations are applicable for students who register to be students at Burapha University since the first semester of B.E. 2555. The regulations of B.E. 2552 (the 2nd and 3rd Issue) and of B.E.2553 (4th Issue) cannot be applied with undergraduate students at Burapha University. 3. The definition of terms related to the regulations are: “Faculty” refers to colleges and other institutions that offer teaching and learning. “Dean” refers to chief of faculty that offers teaching and learning to which students belong or chief of faculty to which courses belong. “Head of Department” includes chairs of programs or heads of departments in the faculty that offer teaching and learning. “Major subject” means group of science, mathematics, social science, humanities, and foreign languages. “Students” mean Burapha University undergraduate students and students from other institutionsthat register to study subjects offered by the university. “Regular students” refer to full-time and part-time students in regular teaching and learning program. This includes students who study during working time or partially study during irregular time. “Special program students” refer to full-time and part-time students in special teaching and learning program. This includes students who study during working time or partially study during irregular time. “Credit” refers to a unit of educational measurement which the student obtains. 4. The required qualifications for students admitted to the University are, as follows: 4.1 Completion of Mathayom Suksa 6 or equivalent accredited by the Ministry of Education. Or 4.2 Completion of Diploma or equivalent accredited by the Ministry of Education. However, this must be in accordance with the conditions of the faculty. Or 4.3 Completion of Grade 12 from an international school in the country accredited by the Ministry of Education. Or 4.4 From overseas schools. 4.4.1 Completion of Grade 12 from the United States of America with a diploma and transcript. Or 4.4.2 Completion from the United Kingdom or a school in the British system with a certificate or transcript: (1) General Certificate of Education (GCE) “O” Level or General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) for five major subjects, with grading system of A, B, C, D, and E. Or (2) General Certificate of Education (GCE) “A” Level for three major subjects, each with grading system of A, B, C, D, and E. Or (3) General Certificate of Education (GCE) “O” Level or GCSE or IGCSE and GCE “A” Level, altogether not less than five major subjects. Or 4.4.3 Completion of Form 6 with certificate, from New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) with transcript of not less than five major subjects. Or 4.5 Completion of Bachelor degree or equivalent from other institutions accredited by the Ministry of Education to study at undergraduate level in a faculty. This must be in accordance with the conditions of the faculty. 4.6 Be a person of good conduct as per Burapha University’s standards. 4.7 Do not have serious contagious diseases which can be passed to others or can be obstacles in studying. The faculties that offer international programs may define other qualifications added to those mentioned above in forms of “Notice” of the University. 5. Student admission The student applicants must pass the entrance examination, or on selection basis according to the University’s detailed regulations announced from time to time. In some special cases, the University might select applicants who possess the necessary qualification that meets with the University Policy. 6. Student category 6.1 Regular students 6.2 Special program students 6.3 Students on trial lessons; accepted by the University in accordance with the conditions of the University. 6.4 Visiting students; from other institutions and register to study some subjects at Burapha University. 7. Student registration 7.1 Applicants must register as one of the student categories mentioned in Item 6. 7.2 Applicants will have formal student status after registering. Details in registration will be in accordance with the notice of the University. 8. Education system: the University uses two-semester system in a regular academic year with at least 15 weeks in each semester. There might be Summer semester with at least 8 weeks if needed. 9. Education management: one format or integration of many formats can be applied, as follows. 9.1 On full-time basis: students must register in regular semester not less than 9 credits and not more than 22 credits, and in summer semester not more than 9 credits. 9.2 On partial-time basis: students must register in regular semester and in summer semester not more than 9 credits. 9.3 On certain-time basis: students register in some periods of the academic year, or as a specifi condition required by the faculty and the University 9.4 Distance education through tele-network or other means decided by the University. 9.5 Module system, where teaching is provided for an individual subject or group of subjects, as per a timetable scheduled by the faculty. 9.6 International program: refers to program in which courses are offered in English. This might require collaboration from other institutions within the country or from other countries. The standard must meet the international curriculum standards. 9.7 Double-degree program: in accordance with the notice of the University. 9.8 Second undergraduate degree program: in accordance with the notice of the University. 9.9 Other formats: must follow the requirements of the University. 10. Credit system: for each subject, the quantity of credit will be indicated, as follows: 10.1 Theory: lecture or discussion, not less than 15 hours in a semester is equivalent to 1 credit. 10.2 Laboratory: experimentation, not less than 30 hours in a semester is equivalent to 1 credit. 10.3 Practicum: field practicum, not less than 45 hours in a semester is equivalent to 1 credit. Burapha University International College Student Handbook 38 10.4 Projects and other activities: not less than 45 hours in a semester is equivalent to 1 credit. 10.5 Other systems: please refer to the rules and conditions of the faculty 11. Registration 11.1 The schedule and procedure of registration in each semester will be stated by the University. 11.2 Students need an instructor/advisor’s approval for all course selections in each semester before registration. For a pre-requisite course, the students need to pass that course before taking the next one; or otherwise with the Dean’s approval before the registration. 11.3 If students need to register across the categories mentioned in Item 6, please refer to the notice of the University 11.4 The registration will be completed upon the fee payment. Students will incur a fine for late payment, according to the University regulations unless they have the Dean’s approval. 11.5 The number of credits for registration in each semester is as follows: 11.5.1 Students must register for at least 9 credits and not more than 22 credits in each semester (part-time students can register not more than 9 credits, regular students cannot register more than 9 credits in summer semester) 11.5.2 Students who cannot follow the regulation of 11.5.1 must have the Dean’s approval for registration 11.5.3 Students with the exception of the last semester before graduation, during which students will be allowed to register for the remaining credits necessary to graduate. 12. Registration for audit on non-credit basis 12.1 Students may register for any course on a non-credit basis. However, tuition and fees will apply and approval from the teachers is required. 12.2 In order to audit a course on a non-credit basis, the students need to pass the examination. Completion of the course will be recorded in the transcript as “au.” This will only apply to those who have at least 80 percent of class attendance, and pass the examination or equivalent assessment. 13. Registration of the general public or those who are not in the category mention in Item 4 The University may allow for the general public to enroll to study, provided they have appropriate qualifications and background which meet the faculty’s rules and regulations. Tuition and fees will be in accordance with the University regulations for special students programs. 14. Course withdrawal and addition 14.1 Course withdrawal or addition needs the advisor’s agreement, as well as the Dean’s approval, and then reported to the Registrar and Statistics. 14.2 Course withdrawal or course addition for registering requires necessary arrangements within the first 2 weeks of each semester, and relevant to Items 11.2 and 11.5. 15. Course cancellation 15.1 Course cancellation needs the advisor’s agreement, as well as the Dean’s approval, and then reported to the Registrar and Statistics. 15.2 Course/ courses cancellation requires necessary arrangements within the first 2 weeks of each semester. Tuition and fee paid will not be refunded. 16. Course withdrawal and refund of tuition and fee 16.1 Students who want to withdraw from the subjects that are cancelled by the University can claim for full refund. 16.2 Students who withdraw from any subjects within the first 2 weeks of each semester can claim for full refund. 17. Class attendance 17.1 It is normal for each subject that students will have 80 percent of class attendance, otherwise they will not be allowed to attend the final examination of that subject. 17.2 The length of the study is as the following; 17.2.1 4-year program: regular students can be graduated from 6 regular semesters but not longer than 8 academic years. For part-time students, they can be graduated from 14 regular semesters but not longer than 12 academic years. For part-time students, they can be graduated from 17 40regular semesters but not longer than 15 academic years. 17.2.3 6-year program: regular students can be graduated from 10 regular semesters but not longer than 10 academic years. For part-time students, they can be graduated from 20 regular semesters but not longer than 18 academic years. In case of credits transferring, the length must be in accordance with the notice stated by the University 18. Grading system 18.1 The grading system is converted as grades and grade points as follows: Grade Meaning Grade Point A Excellent 4.0 B+ Very Good 3.5 B Good 3.0 C+ Above Average 2.5 C Average 2.0 D+ Poor 1.5 D Very Poor 1.0 F Fail 0 18.2 The following symbols are acceptable for grading systems that do not show grades: Symbol Meaning S Satisfactory I Incomplete U Unsatisfactory W Withdrawn au Audit 18.3 Grade “F” may be assigned in the following cases: 18.3.1 Students who miss the examination without the Dean’s approval. 18.3.2 Students do not meet the class attendance requirement, as stated in Item 17.1 18.3.3 Students cheat on the examination. 18.4 Grade “S” or “U” may be given for each course as required by the program. 18.5 Grade “I” may be applied in the following situations: 18.5.1 Students with at least 80 percent of class attendance but miss the examination because of sickness or other reasons, need the Dean’s approval. 18.5.2 With the Dean’s approval, or the Program Chair’s agreement for a delay in evaluation because the students have not completed their work or project. 18.5.3 Students who are assigned an “I” need to request for reassessment within the next semester in order to change the grade. The lecturer must report the result within the next semester. Otherwise, it will be under the consideration of the faculty’s board committee. 18.6 “W” may be assigned in any course in the following situations: 18.6.1 The student has permission to withdraw within the regulations according to Item 15 18.6.2 The student has permission to temporarily leave as stipulated in Item 25. 18.6.3 The student has been commanded to be away from the University in that particular semester. 18.6.4 Students who are assigned “I” over a given time due to illness, or some unavoidable events, the Dean’s approval is required. 18.7 The accumulated credit units for finding grade point average, only subjects that use grade point system can be counted. In case of repeating the subject, credits and grade point from the repeated enrolment will be calculated. Burapha University International College Student Handbook 40 18.8 The grade point average in each semester comes from the student’s results during that semester. It is calculated by the summation of the number of credits multiplied by the grade point and divided by the total credits that have been graded that semester. 18.9 Only the credits that a student has passed will be included when calculating the accumulated grade point average for the complete program. 18.10 The accumulated grade point average comes from the student’s results since the beginning of studying up to the last semester. It is calculated by the summation of the number of credits multiplied by the grade point from Item 18.7 and divided by the total credits that have been graded. 18.11 When “I” has been changed, recalculation of the grade point average will be performed. 19. Repeating or substituting a course 19.1 Students who get “D+” or “D” may repeat or substitute that course under the Dean’s approval. 19.2 Students who get “F” or “U” in a compulsory course must repeat registration for that course until they receive one of the following acceptable grades: A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, or S. 19.3 Students who get an “F” or a “U” in GE course or elective course may register for another course in the same course cluster until the credit units meet the requirement. 19.4 Students who get an “F” or a “U” in free elective course may register for another course in any cluster. If a student completes all course requirements of the program, the student may not register to replace an elective course that got “F” or “U.” 20. Student status identification 20.1 The status of first-year students will be identified after the completion of the first two academic semesters. 20.2 Student statuses are as follows: 20.2.1 Complete status includes students who register in their first year or students who have grade point average of 2.0 up. 20.2.2 Condition status includes students who have a grade point average of 1.75-1.99. 21. After calculating the accumulated grade point in each semester, students with “condition status” must be reported to the students and their advisors. 22. Students who take a summer course may transfer the study results from that summer semester to add to the next semester, for student status identification purposes. When some students have a “condition status”, their advisor and student will be informed by the Registrar as soon as possible. 23. Penalties for cheating The College may consider the following penalties for students who cheat on any form of an examination. 23.1 Fail in that course, or 23.2 Fail in that course and interrupt studying the next semester, or 23.3 Permanent interruption of study. This must be under the consideration of the corruption committee with the Dean’s approval. 24. Temporary interruption of study 24.1 Students have the right to request a temporary interruption of study with the Dean’s approval according to the following circumstances: 24.1.1 Receive an exchange student scholarship or have funding agreeable to the College. 24.1.2 Illness for a long period of time, at least 20 percent of the total hours in a semester. This will be allowed only on official advice received from physician, public or private health care institutions, under the Ministry of Health’s control. 24.1.3 Unexpected emergency, personal reasons, with the Dean’s approval and this temporary interruption of study will only be granted after studying for at least one semester at the College. 24.2 Students must request for a temporary interruption of study within two weeks after the beginning of the semester, and the Dean’s approval is required with the notification forwarded to the Registrar. Burapha University International College Student Handbook 41 24.3 Students may request for a temporary interruption of study with the condition that it 42 is not more than one semester at a time. If necessary, the students can make a new request. 24.4 The period of a temporary interruption of study will be counted towards the maximum length of study mentioned in Item 17. 24.5 During a period of a temporary interruption of study, tuition and fee payments are required on the due date according to the College’s regulations; otherwise, the student’s name will be deleted from the list. 24.6 After a temporary interruption of study, the student needs to inform the Dean and this needs to be forwarded to the Registrar. 25. Change of faculty 25.1 Students who wish to change the faculty, must have the following qualifications: 25.1.1 Have studied in the current faculty for not less than 2 semesters (excluding the semester(s) with interruption of study). 25.1.2 Have never been approved to change faculty before. 25.1.3 Have other qualifications stated by the University. 25.2 Reasons must be declared in changing faculty. This must be processed before the registration period of the new faculty. 25.3 Courses from the current faculty will be calculated in average grade point although they do not match with the transferred faculty. 25.4 Length of study is counted from the starting of the new faculty. 25.5 The approval of change of faculty must be in accordance with the notice stated by the University. 26. Change of major and minor Students can change their major status inside the faculty only once, depending on their Head of Department’s consideration, with the Dean’s approval, and then inform the Registrar. 27. Change of student category Students can change their category and that must be in accordance with the notice stated by the University. 28. Student transferring from other institutions The University accepts students transferred from other institutions and that must be in accordance with the notice stated by the University. 29. Credit transfer Credit transfer can be applied according to the University’s notice. 30. Termination of student status Students may not maintain their student status under the following conditions: 30.1 When a student completes his/her program and receives a degree according to Item 32. 30.2 When a student receives the Dean’s approval for interruption of study. 30.3 The University will delete a student’s name from the list for the following reasons: 30.3.1 The student does not register in the first semester of his/her study. 30.3.2 The student does not register or does not complete the registration in any semester without notice of interruption of study. 30.3.3 The student does not meet the qualifications of Item 4. 30.3.4 The student has a grade point average less than 1.75. 30.3.5 The student has exceeded the maximum length of study as stipulated in Item 17.2. 30.3.6 The student is classified as “probation status,” whose GPA is less than 1.80 for two consecutive semesters. 30.3.7 The student is classified as “probation status,” whose GPA is less than 2.00 for four consecutive semesters. 30.3.8 The student engages in serious cheating on an examination. 30.3.9 The student exhibits seriously unacceptable conduct while being a student. 30.3.10 The student seriously disobeys the University’s regulations. Students whose status is terminated because of the reason mentioned in Item 30.3.2 can ask for the student status to be re-instated: his/her appeal application will be handed to the advisor, Head of Programs and the Dean for consideration. The appeal is then required to proceed to the University President’s approval. However, the payment of tuition, fee and fine related to the University regulations after the approval, with Burapha University International College Student Handbook 42 the condition that the status will be affected and last only within the period according to Item 17.2, after the date of his/her first registration for being a College student. 31. Request for a degree 31.1 Students can propose to graduate by informing the Registrar within one month at the beginning of the semester of which the students expect to graduate. 31.2 Students who are eligible for a degree must have studied at the University according to the Item 17.2. 31.3 Transferred student who are eligible for a degree must have studied for at least one academic year 32. Granting a degree The University will consider proposing the list of prospective graduates to the Academic Council and the University Council respectively for granting bachelor degree and bachelor degree with honors as the following qualifications: 32.1 A Bachelor’s degree will be granted for students who complete their program with a GPA of 2.00 or above. 32.2 Second Class Honors will be awarded to students who complete a 4-, 5-, or 6-year program with a GPA of 3.25 up and have never got the grades D+, D, F, or U in any course. 32.3 First Class Honors will be awarded to students who complete a 4- 5-, or 6-year program with a GPA of 3.60 up and have never got the grades D+, D, F, or U in any course. 33. Medal awards Students who are eligible to receive a medal award must have the following qualifications: 33.1 Receive a First Class Honors degree. 33.2 Gain the highest GPA of graduates in the same program. 34. Issues about undergraduate programs that are not identified in these regulations, or in any others, or those that do not conform to these regulations, must be proposed to Associate President and the Dean for solutions which must be reported to the President for final decision.
