The purpose of this Addendum is to clarify further the requirements of the plans and
specifications. The bidders are governed by the information in this Addendum as if
included in the plans and specifications. This Addendum does hereby become a part of
the Contract Documents. Each bidder shall acknowledge receipt of this Addendum in the
space provided in the Bid Form.
This Addendum consists of thirty-two (32) pages.

layer of gypsum board, attached adhesively or mechanically
(contractor’s option) vertically up wall to the underside of deck
above and paint. Approximately, the top elevation of plaster
between columns is 8’-6” and top of the plaster at top of arch is
14’-0” and cement plaster thickness 5/8”. Gypsum board thickness
is to match plaster thickness. Provide a metal “V” shape reveal
between plaster and gypsum. Joints shall be horizontal at columns
and a smooth arch over windows.

MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL ADDENDUM 1.00
JULY 17, 2013
The following Mechanical and Electrical Addendum Items shall be made part of the
Contract Documents for the referenced project.
1.01
Reference Section 211000.1.3.D and Sheet FP0.1 Fire Protection Note 25. All
new sprinkler piping and the existing standpipe shall be seismically restrained
per NFPA 13 and ASCE/SE17. Other existing piping does not require additional
seismic verification/support.
1.02
Reference Section 211000.2.1 Piping Materials. No plastic pipe or plastic fittings
may be installed as part of the fire suppression system.
1.03
Reference Sheet FP0.1 Fire Suppression Design Criteria and attached 4/22/2013
Report of Sprinkler Inspection and Pump Test Table. The attached is the last
sprinkler inspection report and pump test performed on Hester College. This
information is furnished at a bidder’s request for pump flow test data.
1.04
Reference Sheet FP0.1, Sprinkler Drop Detail and Fire Protection Note 8.
Revised this drawing such that all new pendent and sidewall sprinklers shall be
semi-recessed and white powder coated.
1.05
Reference Sheet FP1.1, 1st Floor Plan. Note the drawing indicates that all
sprinklers and piping are to be replaced for the 1st Floor. Because of the amount
of plumbing and HVAC work for this floor and the increased ceiling heights; the
mains and branch piping are expected to be replaced. The standpipe, hose
connections, and sprinklers within the stair/hoistway shafts may remain.
1.06
Reference Sheets FP1.1, FP1.2, and FP1.3; 2nd through 8th Floor Plans. All
Resident Rooms for Floors 2 through 8 shall receive new sidewall sprinklers for
coverage of the room. The existing sidewall sprinkler and escutcheon shall be
removed and the wall patched. Install a proper sidewall sprinkler at the proper
elevation and projection into the room and connect to piping located in the
corridor. The new sprinklers shall be semi-recessed and white powder coated.
The branch piping and sprinklers located in each Resident Room’s closet(s) shall
remain.
1.07
Reference Sheet FP1.3, 8th Floor Plan. Revise the 8th Floor to include the
replacement of all horizontal sprinkler piping (mains and branches) located within
the interior core (as defined by oval corridor and all spaces inside the oval
corridor). Because of the amount of plumbing and HVAC work for this floor; the
mains and branch piping are expected to be replaced for a coordinated
installation of new work. The standpipe, hose connections, sprinklers within the
stair/hoistway shafts, and Resident Room closet sprinklers may remain.
1.08
Reference Section 230700.3.13.B. Domestic cold water piping insulation is not
required.
1.09
Reference Section 230700.3.13.F. Chilled water pipe insulation shall be 2 inch
thick in lieu of 1 inch thick. Provide insulation with factory applied ASJ jacket and
vapor barrier.
1.10
Reference Section 230700.3.13.G. Heating water pipe insulation shall be 2 inch
thick in lieu of 1 inch thick. Provide insulation with factory applied ASJ jacket and
vapor barrier.
1.11
Reference Section 230700.3.13.H. Chilled/heating water pipe insulation shall be
2 inch thick in lieu of 1 inch thick. Provide insulation with factory applied ASJ
jacket and vapor barrier.
1.12
Reference Section 230700.3.14.G. If cellular glass is used for the chilled-water
expansion/compression tank insulation, the insulation shall be 2 inch thick in lieu
of 1 1/2 inch.
1.13
Reference Section 230900. All controls are to be removed except for Boiler
(existing) system internal controls and the existing Owner’s Delta 1000 System
connection to MSU Central Plant. The Temperature Controls Contractor shall
relocate two panels and one junction box of the Delta 1000 System to allow for
installation of new Penthouse doorways. The three panels shall be installed on a
unistrut support system.
1.14
Reference Section 230900.1.2.D. Replace this section with the following:
System shall be designed to be fully integrated in Murray State University’s
existing front ends at MSU. These three systems are: Automated Logic,
Reliable, or Trane.
1.15
Reference Section 230900.2.4.A. The workstation shall be located in Penthouse
Mechanical Room 904.
1.16
Reference Section 230993.1.8.A and 230993.1.8.B. Revise these sections as
follows: The VRV system shall be programmed by the OEM therefore remove all
requirements for programming. The Temperature Controls Contractor shall only
integrate all manufacturers’ available points to the building management system.
1.17
Reference Section 230993.1.16.A. The changeover switch panel shall also
provide system status to the building management system.
1.18
Reference Section 237313.2.1.A and Sheet H5.1 Dedicated Ventilation-Air
Modular Air Handler with Energy Recovery Ventilator Schedule. McQuay shall
be an acceptable manufacturer for OAU-1. Final approval of actual selection is
reserved for Shop Drawing review.
1.19
Refer to Architectural Addendum Item, Sheet SD1.1, and Sheet U1.1. Located
near the new curved side walk adjacent to North 15th Street are two PVC
junction boxes at grade, one of which is shown in the new curved walk, one in
the grass area. These boxes shall be removed along with the two conduits under
the new walk area between the boxes. Intercept the existing direct burial site
lighting circuit with two new traffic rated junction boxes (see architectural
addendum for location) installed flush with final grade, install (2) 1” PVC conduits
between boxes with new wiring to maintain circuit under new concrete walk.
1.20
Reference Section 283111 – Digital, Addressable Fire-Alarm Mass Notification
System. The following requirement shall be added: Furnish and install all
required hardware and software including additions/modifications necessary to
connect this fire alarm system to the existing campus Gamewell FCI Focal Point
network. System shall be configured to show individual point annunciation on the
Focal Point network. In making additions or modifications to the Focal Point
network, contractor assumes responsibility for all systems connected to the
network. Furnish and install all network connections between the control panel
and network rack.

Reference Sheet E1.6. Tag note #15 in the “Electrical Construction Notes”
applies to the penthouse floor plan only. Tag note #15 shown on the 7th and 8th
Floor Plan shall read as noted on Sheet E1.5.

Reference Sheets E1.4, E1.5, E1.6, and E3.3. General Fire Alarm: All magnetic
and mechanical door holders (see architectural hardware) as included in the
Contract Documents shall have system smoke detector on both sides of the
door(s).

Reference Sheets E1.4, E1.5, E1.6, and E3.3. General Fire Alarm: All study
rooms, restrooms, and elevator lobbies shall contain fire alarm horn strobe
devices.
1.24
Reference Sheets E1.1, E1.2, E1.3, E4.1, and E5.1. Clarification – The quantity
and location of occupancy sensors shall be determined by the Manufacture of the
product furnished as required for 100% coverage of the room as indicated.
Symbols shown on the drawings do not represent quantities, only to imply area of
coverage. Toilet room sensors shall be set for long delay before cycling lighting
off.

Reference Sheets E1.1, E1.2, and E1.3. Clarification – Lighting control in all
sleeping areas (Resident Rooms, College Head Bedroom #110, Res. Dir. Rooms
#521 and 524, etc.) shall be “Vacancy Sensors”, manual on-off control with a
delayed automatic off by occupancy sensor.

Reference Sheets E5.2, E5.3, and E5.4. All branch circuit breakers serving
resident room lighting circuits shall be furnish with removable handle locks.

Reference Sheets E1.1, E1.2, and E1.3. Delete all type “Normal” “L” fixtures
shown in stair wells along with associated circuitry. Fixture type “Emergency”
“Night-Light” “L” shall remain; lighting will be controlled by circuit breaker only.

References Sheets E1.1, E1.2, and E1.3. Furnish and install a type “M” fixture in
each chase, controlled by a vacancy sensor at the door nearest the wide part of
the chase. Connect to circuit of the associated restroom.

Reference Sheets E1.1 tag note #3 & #4, E1.2 tag note #1 & #2, and E1.3 tag
note #1. Wiring of these branch circuits shall be replaced with new. Existing
conduit that is concealed and in good condition can be re-used.
1.30
Reference Sheet DE1.1, First Floor Demolition Plan. Four GFI receptacles are to
be removed from the exterior shown on the east and east sides. These
receptacles are to be replaced with new, wiring shall be replaced and routed
back to a new branch breaker/panel.

Reference Sheets E2.1 (Resident Rooms), E1.4 College Head Bedroom, Sheet
E1.5 Res. Dir. Rooms #521 and 524, etc.). Provide two Tamper Resistant NEMA
5-20 Duplex Receptacles with 2 USB Charging Ports, in each indicated room in
place of standard receptacles as shown, coordinate with Engineer for
determination of device to be replaced.

Reference Sheet E3.3. Clarification – Existing Fire Alarm System raceway will
be allowed to be reused if adequate for the new installation, in good condition
and concealed from view in finished, typically occupied spaces. Exposed EMT in
stair wells and mechanical rooms can be reused if adequate for the new
installation and in good condition.

Reference Sheet E1.6 tag note #11. All receptacles shall be replaced with new
GFI protected devices, all branch circuit wiring shall be replaced, raceway and
boxes can be reused if adequate for the new installation and in good condition.

Reference Sheets DE1.2 and E1.6 tag note #15. The existing UPS serving the
maglock system shall be retained and protected. Install a new wall mounted
plywood shelf and reconnect UPS to serve new maglocks.
1.35
Reference Sheets DE1.2 and E1.6. Panel “D” shall be replaced with a surface
mounted 30 space, 120/208V, 3Ø, 4W, 100A M.L.O. panel, install in available
location, extend all branch circuit to new panel location, fill panel with 1P20A
breakers.
1.36
Reference Sheet E0.1, Voice and Data General Requirements. Rack mounted
UPS’s shall be deleted from the project. Rack lay-outs shall be coordinated with
the owner at the time of installation to allow installation of UPS units by the
owner.
1.37
Reference Division 27 of the specifications and Sheet E0.1. The project will
require all relative materials to be as manufactured by Ortronics and upon
completion of the project the Owner shall be furnished with a 25 year Ortronics
warranty. No other material manufacture will be accepted.
1.38
Reference Section 271500.1.2. The requirement for (2) data drops at each
location will not apply to Resident Rooms. Refer to typical room lay-outs
Drawing E2.1. All other shall locations shall receive (2) drops.
1.39
Clarification. No above ceiling return air plenums will exist after completion of
this project as it relates to communication wiring.
1.40
Reference Sheet E3.2, Data Riser. The existing communications fiber cable is to
be carefully removed from the 5th floor location back to the existing first floor
mechanical room and properly terminated in a new enclosed patch panel in the
first floor mechanical room near the cable entrance, the break out panel shown in
Chase C06 on the 4th floor will not be required.. From this new patch panel on the
first floor install new 12 strand S/M fiber to the rack mounted fiber patch panel on
the 4th floor. All OSP cable extending out of the building will be reused.

Bidding and management requirements and procedures:
a.
Bids are to be submitted to:
Murray State University
Procurement Services
General Service Building
Murray, KY 42071
b.
Current estimate of costs is $7,676,310.00
c.
Liquidated Damages are part of the contract:
i.
$500/day after the date for Substantial Completion, plus
ii.
$250/day after the date for Final Completion
d.
A Work Order to begin construction is anticipated by August 1, 2013.
e.
Bids will be received until July 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Central Prevailing Time.
f.
A Bid Security of 5% is required.

Performance and Bonds are required.
The MSU General Conditions are new this year.
The Asset Management Forms (for tracking all equipment) are new.
Due to space limitations, there should be only one representative per company at
the bid opening.
3.
Construction Schedules:
a.
Substantial Completion
330 days after Work Order is given
b.
Final Completion
30 days after Substantial Completion
c.
The dates are critical and no extension of the construction period is available as
students will begin moving in the first of August.
4.
LEED issues:
a.
The project is required to meet LEED Certified.
b.
Enhanced Commissioning is part of the project.
5.
Construction worker requirements and notifications:
a.
All construction workers are required to dress appropriately.
b.
Due to other commitments, MSU campus dining facilities will not be available
during the construction period.
c.
A MSU parking permit is required.
d.
There should be adequate parking available until school begins. After that, other
arrangements will need to be made, including parking at the Stadium and bussing
to the site.
6.
Procurement of Contract Documents:
a.
Plans are available from Paducah Blueprint for $200.00 per set.
b.
Up to two sets are refundable if returned within 7 days of Bid date and documents
are in good condition.
7.
Clarification of Contract Documents:
a.
The last day to submit questions is at 5:00 p.m., July 15, 2013.
b.
It is anticipated an Addendum will be sent to all plan holders on Wednesday, July
16, 2013.
8.
The building will be available for viewing at other times by contacting David Brickeen or
Pete Reyna.
9.
Hazardous Materials:
a.
The Penthouse and 8th Floor have been abated and can be viewed.
b.
Floors 6 and 7 are currently being abated and cannot be entered.
c.
Floors 1 through 5 are open, but abatement has not been done on them.
d.
Abatement is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of construction, but
there is the possibility of some overlap.
e.
The paint has been tested for lead content, and none was found.

Questions and comments:
a.
Can Unit Prices be turned in one hour after bidding instead of with the bid?
b.
Can the note on plans to ‘grind the existing floor smooth in preparation of new
finishes, be adjusted to better define the scope of work required?
c.
It should be noted that the contractor is to pay for all inspection fees.
d.
These items will be addressed in Addendum No. 1.
