SUBJECT: Jaw Crushers. Jaw Bearing Lubrication Intervals.
As a followup to PSM 022 released November
2012, this bulletin is to remind users of KPI-JCI
Legendary and Vanguard series jaw crushers
of the lubrication requirements for jaw crusher
bearings.
Grease Selection
CAUTION
Contact the factory if you are planning to
use any grease other than Mobilith SHC 007
or Chevron Ultra-Duty HD00 for lubricating
the outer main and pitman jaw bearings.
Calibration
Grease selection is critical when operating the
Legendary and Vanguard series jaw crushers.
Proper flowability and oil viscosity is essential
for jaw performance. Because of this, KPIJCI recommends using Mobilith SHC 007, a
synthetic NLGI 00 grease. Mobilith SHC 007
is recommended for all temeprature ranges.
KPI-JCI also recommends Chevron Ultra Duty
HD00, a mineral based grease, as a viable
option and is recommended for ambient
temperatures above 40 degrees F.
Mobilith SHC-007 and Chevron Ultra-Duty
HD00 are compatible and can be used together;
however, mixing products may decrease
performance. For maximum performance,
thoroughly clean the system before adding a
new lubricant.
KPI-JCI Legendary and Vanguard jaw crushers
are currently shipped with Lincoln brand bucket
pumps. This has recently changed from the
Alemite pump. All grease guns and grease
pumps are different. KPI-JCI has found that it
takes more pumps to equal an ounce (or pint)
with the Lincoln pump than with the Alemite.
It is essential to regularly calibrate and
qualify your bucket pump and grease gun
to maintain accurate greasing of the jaw
bearings.
Calibrate (or qualify) your bucket pump or
grease gun by pumping grease into a 16
oz. container. Count the number of pumps
it takes to fill the container.
Undergreasing the jaw bearings reduces
performance and will cause serious damage
to the bearings.

On page 3, you will find our lubrication
recommendations for GT/FT crushers. The
picture shows the remote grease for the
GT125, but all FT jaw crushers have a similar
remote grease option.
On page 4, you will find the lubrication
recommendations with pictures from our
Vanguard Jaw manual.
Ordering Grease
Both Mobilith SHC007 and Chevron UltraDuty HD00 can be ordered from our parts
department. Use the following part numbers
to order:
Lincoln Pump
Contamination
Mobilith SHC 007
The new Lincoln brand bucket pump also
eliminates contamination. When opening a
new bucket of grease, the Lincoln brand pump
attaches to the new bucket. The Alemite
pumps required the customer to dump the
grease from the original container into the
Alemite bucket for use.
Lubrication Intervals and Quantities
Required.
Grease jaw bearings once every 10 hours
of operation. Apply one pint (16 ounces) of
grease into the housing of each outer main
bearing and two pints (32 ounces) of grease
into the pitman thus providing one pint of
grease for each pitman bearing.

Synthetic Semi-fluid Grease
Product Description
Mobilith SHC 007 is a high performance, long-life synthetic semi-fluid grease formulated from a lithium complex
thickener and a high viscosity, ISO 460, polyalphaolefin ( PAO ) base oil. It possesses excellent extreme
pressure performance and good corrosion inhibition which are essential in filled for life gearbox applications.
The use of high thermal stability synthetic hydrocarbon base stock contributes to the exceptionally long life of
this product, which far exceeds the service life of conventional mineral oil based lubricants.
Benefits
Mobilith SHC 007 offers the following benefits:





Reduced gear wear due to excellent EP properties.
Minimises leakage problems and therefore improves shop floor safety.
Protects gears, bearings and casing against corrosion.
Outstanding structural stability even in the presence of water.
Compatible with mineral and synthetic lubricants as well as conventional seal materials.
Special Features of Mobilith SHC 007






Long service life even at high operating temperatures.
Wide operational temperature range, -50°C to +200°C.
Excellent wear protection even under high loads and at high temperatures.
Excellent rust and corrosion resistance.
Reduced power consumption due to low running torque.
Reduces maintenance because of fill for life capabilities.
Applications
Mobilith SHC 007 is recommended for application in a wide range of medium to slow speed industrial
gearboxes particularly those where fill for life service is required. It is especially suitable to applications where
high operating temperature and leakage render conventional lubricants unsatisfactory.
Typical applications for Mobilith SHC 007 are conveyor gearboxes, remote gearboxes and crane gearboxes
where minimum maintenance is desirable. It can also be used for slush pan lubrication of open gears.
The excellent water resistance and superb rust and corrosion inhibition of Mobilith SHC 007 ensure excellent
lubrication even when subjected to contamination.
Mobilith SHC 007 has a recommended operational temperature range of -50ºC to +200°C.
Mobilith SHC 007 is compatible with conventional mineral oil and PAO synthetic gear oils.

Properties
Mobilith SHC 007 is an extremely thermally stable semi-fluid grease manufactured from lithium complex
thickener, synthetic hydrocarbon base stock and unique combination of additives which are effective up to a
very high operating temperatures.
The semi-fluid nature of Mobilith SHC 007 ensures maximum flow of lubricant to the critical gear and bearing
interfaces, whilst minimising leakage past seal materials.

Minor variations in product typical test data are to be
expected in normal manufacturing.
It is recommended for gear drives specifying a semifluid grease.
1
Minimum operating temperature is the lowest
temperature at which a grease, already in place,
could be expected to provide lubrication. Most
greases cannot be pumped at these minimum
temperatures.
2 Maximum operating temperature is the highest
temperature at which the grease could be used
with frequent (daily) relubrication.
* Determined on mineral oil extracted by vacuum
filtration.
