Heating your home doesn’t need to cost the earth and you don’t have to sacrifice your comfort. • Gas heaters and reverse cycle air conditioners produce around one third of emissions compared to electric heaters Compare star ratings Heater running costs • Use the energy rating labels to find the most efficient heating system for your needs. • The more stars, the less money you lose on running costs. • Compare models with the same star ratings by looking at the energy consumption number on the label. • The lower that score, the less money you lose on running costs. More stars more savings When comparing similar sized products look for more stars and save money. Portable electric heater (2.4 kW) The lower the energy consumption score, the less electricity the appliance uses, and the cheaper it will be to run. • Buy a unit with a thermostat and timer. Set your thermostat at 18 to 21°C in winter. • Select the right size and heating type for your needs and room sizes: –– space or room heaters for living areas, or, –– ducted heating to warm more rooms at the same time. • If you buy a gas space heater or a gas ducted heating system, make sure it’s at least four stars.
