The University of Iowa Press (the Press) is pleased to have the privilege of publishing your
Work, titled

So that you as Author of the Work and the Press as Publisher of the Book may be protected from
the consequences of unauthorized use of its contents, the Press considers it essential to register
the copyright. To this end, we ask you grant us all rights to your Work by signing below.
1. The Press agrees to publish the Work in the Book, copyrighted by the Press. In consultation
with its Editor, the Press may make your manuscript conform to a style of presentation, spelling,
capitalization, and usage that it deems appropriate.
2. The Author guarantees that the Work is his or her original work and that it contains no
misrepresentation of the work of other authors cited and no libel, invasion of privacy, or other
unlawful matter; and he or she guarantees to hold the Press harmless from any claim or
proceeding on such grounds. He or she further guarantees that the Work has not been previously
published and is not scheduled for publication elsewhere, even in somewhat different form. The
Author grants the Press the exclusive right to publish the Work in the original and in all
subsequent editions and printings of the Book, including electronic/digital editions, in all
foreign-language translations published by the Press or its licensees, and in versions made by
nonprofit organizations for blind or physically handicapped persons.
3. Upon the Author’s request, the Press will grant gratis to the Author a nonexclusive license to
republish the Work in revised or unrevised form in any language in a book written or edited by
the Author after the Work has been published. The Press will then inform the Author of the
required wording of the copyright notice.
4. Permissions for photocopying the Work will be managed by the Press either directly or
through the Copyright Clearance Center. Fifty percent of all monies collected as permissions fees
will be paid to the Author annually once the Press has received the Author’s Social Security
Number or other form of tax identification number. It is the responsibility of the Author to keep
the Press informed of his or her current address.
5. The Press will not refuse requests to reprint the Work unless it judges the proposed use to be
in direct competition with the Book.
6. It is the Author’s responsibility to keep the Press informed of address changes.
7. Upon publication of the Work, the Author may purchase copies of the Book for his or her own
use (but not for resale) by direct order to the Press, c/o Chicago Distribution Center (1-800-6212736) at 40% discount from list price.
