CommunityCalendar Editorial Guidelines:
PURPOSE
The DeWitt, Iowa Community Calendar is an interactive, web-based program that enables community organizations to
post, view and search for events of broad interest to the community and its visitors.
OVERVIEW
Events on the DeWitt, Iowa Community Calendar should announce one-time or special events for programs, not
regularly scheduled activities (i.e., church services, exercise classes). The Community Calendar may be used to
promote educational, social, cultural, or recreational events in the DeWitt area that are open to the general public. It
may not be used to promote general business advertising or political or commercial events.
GUIDELINES
Postings will be limited to those abiding by the following guidelines:
 Only community-focused events that are located within the Central Community School District will be
listed on the calendar.
 General business advertising (open houses are the exception), auditions, church services, and
political fundraisers will not be posted on the Community Calendar.
 Submission forms must be filled out entirely, including event description and contact information.
Forms with blank entry fields may not be processed for posting.
 Events do not have to be free but must be open to the general public.
 The DCDC will not promote an event on the calendar if it has not been formally requested by the organization
sponsor/host.
 No solicitations will be accepted. Community fundraisers may be accepted at the discretion of DCDC
staff.
 Exceptions to these guidelines may be made at the discretion of the DCDC staff.
REMEMBER TO:
 Tell us what is unique about your event – what makes it different?
 Submit your event with enough advance notice to properly publicize. www.dewittiowa.org can help get the
word out, but we have to give people enough time to make plans and mark their calendars!
 To make your event more successful, include ALL event details! The address, time, how to get there,
1
where to park, what to bring, who can come, what it costs, what to wear, etc.
CALENDAR REVIEW AND PUBLISHING
 All submitted events are sent to DCDC staff for approval before they are published on the online
calendar.
 We will do our best to post a submitted event within 48-72 business hours.
 The DCDC reserves the right to decline event submissions.
 The DCDC reserves the right to edit event information for length, spelling, language and clarity.
 The DCDC reserves the right to limit the number of postings from any one organization and to reject any
posting when deemed to be offensive, inappropriate or not in the public’s interest or in conflict with this
policy or the DCDC mission.
