medienzentrum (media centre)
Life without media? Just unimaginable for most young people!
The wienXtra-medienzentrum invites 12- to 22-year-olds to
experiment creatively with different media. Radio, video,
press, TV, VJing – workshops and visits to local media outlets
introduce young people to the technical and creative basics
of media work. Young media artists who want to create their
own projects will be provided with cameras, audio equipment,
or video and audio editing tools.
By organising events such as the videoundfilmtage (video
and film days), an annual short film festival, open film
screenings and music and VJ acts, the medienzentrum creates
public spaces for creative young people and offers an
opportunity for networking and exchange. medienzentrum
also offers an excellent educational programme for those
working with children and young people, including a
beginners’ course in media education, a BarCamp entitled
“Medienbildung JETZT!” (Media Education NOW!) and much
more. With its library of more than 2,800 books, numerous
web activities and professional advice and support for media
projects by and with young people, the medienzentrum is
always keeping up to speed with the fast-changing worlds
of the media.

soundbase
wienXtra-soundbase is the first port of call in Vienna for
young musicians and music-mad young people aged 13 to
26. soundbase offers young musicians the opportunity to
perform at the “acousticClub”, record their music at low cost
with the help of experts at “cdemoWerk”, and submit the
demos they record to “feedBack” experts for their opinion.
Once a year they can present their work at the “podium.wien”
music competition. Brochures and workshops provide further
information and advice on everything related to
making music: looking for gigs, organising concerts,
publishing music, understanding copyright law and much more.
wienXtra-soundbase also runs the ticket counter at the
wienXtra-jugendinfo, where young music fans can buy
tickets for concerts and parties in Vienna without having
to pay advance booking fees. Young event organisers
and bands can use the service free of charge to make their
events known to a wide audience. And for anyone wanting
the latest information on concerts and events on the go –
the ticket list is also available via app for the smartphones.
