Even if the LED is red, the instrument is in its
normal state as long as the LED becomes green
after switching ON the power again.
Precautions for Use
<STABLO-EX>
This instrument is an ionizer specifically for electronic balances.
Purpose of ionizers specifically for electronic balances is to remove
static from electric-charged samples or containers for higher reliability
of measurements. Use the instrument following the matters described
below.
For power source, be sure to use the special AC adapter.
The instrument is designed to be used indoors only.
The instrument may become slightly hot during operation. This is not abnormal.
The instrument is precision equipment. Handle it with care and avoid dropping it or
exposing it to strong vibration or shock.
Using the instrument with the electrode probes bent lowers static removal performance.
If electrode probes become bent, they need to be replaced. Contact your Shimadzu
representative.
Prior to removing static from powder-shaped samples, make sure that the blower switch
is turned OFF.
Do NOT use the instrument in an airtight space for a long time. Ventilate the work area,
especially when using the instrument with the blower switch OFF in an airtight space for
a long time.
The ionizer has sufficient measures for electromagnetic waves. However, when it is
close to equipment with no electromagnetic wave interference or with insufficient
measures, such equipment may malfunction.
In this event, move the ionizer away from malfunctioning equipment. (It does not affect
the Shimadzu analytical balances AUW-D/AUW/AUX/AUY series.)
The instrument’s static removal performance differs when the blower is ON/OFF. The
performance is higher when the blower is ON as compared to when it is OFF. Place the
ionizer closer to the sample when the blower is OFF.
Insert the plug of the AC adapter’s connecting cord into the DC IN connector after
checking that the Main switch on the back is turned OFF. Then, insert the power plug of
the AC adapter into an outlet and turn ON the Main switch.
Prior to unplugging the AC adapter’s connecting cord from the DC IN connector of the
instrument, turn OFF the Main switch on the back. Hold the plug when unplugging the
cord.
The left LED on top of the main unit is green when the state is normal and red when it is
abnormal. If it becomes red, unplug the power cord of the AC adapter and contact your
Shimadzu representative.
Even if the LED is red, the instrument is in its normal state as long as the LED
becomes green after turning ON the power again. If the LED remains red even after
turning ON the power repeatedly, the instrument has a problem.
<Improvement of Measurement Reliability>
For accurate measurements, static on samples and glass of the weighing chamber
needs to be removed. Decreasing convection is also very important.
For large samples and containers, convection especially hinders stable measurement
when there is a temperature difference between them and the weighing chamber.
Prior to static removal using STABLO-EX or after static removal, leave the sample in
the weighing chamber for a while so the temperature of the sample and chamber
becomes the same for stable measurement.

First of all, make sure that the Main switch on the back is OFF.
Then, insert the plug of the AC adapter connecting cord into the DC IN
connector and insert the AC adapter’s power plug into an outlet. Lastly,
turn ON the Main switch.
5. Operating the Ionizer
5.1 Generating ions
When the Main switch on the back is turned ON, ion is generated to remove static.
The LED on the left on front becomes green. IF it becomes red, turn ON the power
again.
LED on the left on front
Even if the LED is red, the instrument is in its normal state as long as
the LED becomes green after turning ON the power again. If the LED
remains red even after turning ON the power repeatedly, the
instrument has a problem. In this event, unplug the power cord and
contact your Shimadzu representative.

5.2 Switching Blower ON/OFF
The wind can be generated by turning ON the blower switch on the front face. It is
effective for static removal from clumped samples or containers. When the switch is
turned ON, the LED on the right on top turns blue.
When removing static from samples that easily scatter, make sure that the blower
is OFF (the LED on the right on top is OFF).
When the blower is OFF, static removal takes longer. Have the main unit close to
the electric-charged sample.
Ventilation
Ventilate the work area well, especially when the blower is OFF.
Ventilate the work area regardless of whether the blower is ON/OFF
when using the instrument for a long period of time.
Turn OFF the Main power switch on the back when the instrument
is not used.
(Be sure that all LEDs are OFF.)
Caution concerning equipment with insufficient measures for
electromagnetic waves
The ionizer has sufficient measures for electromagnetic waves.
However, when it is close to equipment with no electromagnetic
wave interface or with insufficient measures, such equipment may
malfunction.
In this event, move the ionizer away from malfunctioning equipment.
(It does not affect the Shimadzu analytical balances AUW-D/AUW
/AUX/AUY series.)

measurement unstable.)
Static removal
from solid
samples or
containers
Scattering of powder can be prevented
by turning OFF the blower switch.
When the blower switch is OFF, adjust
the stand to make the sample closer to
the discharging part and prolong the
exposure time.
Example with
the Stand 2
Static removal
from easilyscattering
samples such
as powder
Ventilate the work area well when
the blower is OFF because ozone
concentration is high. Ventilate
the work area regardless of
whether the blower is ON/OFF
when using the instrument for a
long period of time.
-4-
Electric-charged glass (glass in front of
balance or door glass) may make
measurement unstable. Turn OFF the
blower and place the ionizer close to
the glass in order to improve reliability
of measurements.
Example of
Hand Holding 1
Static removal
from weighing
chambers
(glass) or static
removal
from
samples or
containers in a
weighing
chamber
Putting your hand in the weighing
chamber makes the convection
unstable. Start measurements 2
or 3 minutes after static removal.
When using easily-scattering
samples, turn OFF the blower
switch.
Turning OFF the blower is
recommended for using the
instrument in this condition.
To turn ON the blower for higher
static removing effect (when
using the Shimadzu
AUW/AUX/AUY series: Turn
OFF the zero tracking function
for stable measurement.)
When the inner wall of a container
(beaker or conical flask) is electrically
charged, powder does not drop to the
bottom of the container and sticks to
the inner wall. This can be prevented by
removing static from the inner wall and
sample in advance.

from the inner
wall of
containers
(beakers or
conical flasks)
(so that powder
can reach the
bottom of the
container)
