Please review the following changes/additions/clarifications to Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) No.
14-15-MH Campus Recreation Pool Renovations and Repairs to be addressed in submitted
proposals:
Below is USF’s response to the questions that were discussed at the Pre-Proposal Meeting on February
4, 2014. Any additional questions from prospective vendors must be submitted via email to Michael
Hernandez mahernandez@usf.edu no later than 3:00pm on February 11, 2014.
USF Response to Vendor Questions from Pre-Proposal Meeting for ITN 14-15-MH
1. Is there a specific brand of VFD that the contractor must use? Response: No, all equipment will be new
so the new VFD must interface with the new equipment and with the existing DCM5 control system.
2. Is the contractor responsible for the asbestos abatement in the pools below surface viewing window?
RESPONSE: No, USF will engage an asbestos abatement contractor for this purpose, but the pool
contractor will be responsible for resealing the viewing window. (See item #21 below.)

3. Are the sealant specifications in the project manual? RESPONSE: USF has updated the sealant
specifications in the Project Manual and a revised specification for Section 07 92 00 Joint Sealants is
attached with this addendum. All changes are indicated bold, underlined xxxxxxxxxx for additions.
4. Will contractor replace all the old plumbing? RESPONSE: contractors should replace plumbing if is it not
working properly or if piping modifications are required due to the equipment reconfiguration.
5. Where is the leak that needs to be fixed? RESPONS: USF had a plumbing contractor run a camera into
the pipe that is leaking which showed that the leak is approximately 10’ from the west wall of the
building at the SW corner of the pool.
6. Does USF have a copy of the video showing where the leak is? RESPONSE: No we do not have a copy.
7. Once the epoxy is removed there will be some loose material left behind, does USF have a preference as
to how the contractor removes the loose material, sand-blast or hydro-blast? RESPONSE: USF will leave
that up to the Contractor.
8. Is USF changing the filtering system from a DE system to a Vacuum Sand high rate system? RESPONSE:
The intent of the Project is to change the system to a Pressurized Sand filtration system. The
Specifications are correct, as originally issued; Specifications Section 13 11 00 of the Project Manual is
being re-issued with this Addendum to provide minor clarifications. All changes are indicated by either
strikeout for deletions xxxxxxxxx or bold, underlined xxxxxxxxxx for additions.
9. Is USF requesting proposals for new VFD drives for the motors and a fully automatic system? RESPONSE:
Yes that is what we are requesting.
10. Do contractors need to replace tiled lane markers? RESPONSE: Yes the lane markers must be re-tiled,
but USF is eliminating the north and south lane lines.
11. Does USF want to change to a salt water system? RESPONSE: USF has requested this as an Add Alternate
to the Base Bid. See Specifications Section 13 11 00-2.05.
12. Has a specific ozone treatment system been specified? RESPONSE: No. Provide a system designed and
sized to treat the size of the pool and the flow rate of the filtration system. See Specifications Section 13
11 00 – 2.04.
13. Is this a Health Department-regulated pool? RESPONSE: Yes it is. The Contractor will be required to
obtain permitting through the DOH.
14. Is the contractor responsible for providing the engineering plans? RESPONSE: Yes the Contractor is
responsible for providing the engineering, signed and sealed construction plans and the construction
aspects of the project.

15. How deep is the foundation of the diving board pedestal? RESPONSE: we do not know the exact depth,
but the pedestals for the other two diving boards came out without any issues. Patching of the existing
deck will be required suitable for mud-set tile to be installed.
16. Which tile around the edge of the pool needs to be replaced? RESPONSE: All tile on the pool side of the
existing beam. See photographs following for clarification. Refer to Specifications Sections 13 11 00 2.12 and 2.15.
17. Is USF seeking a vacuum sand filtration system or a pressurized system? RESPONSE: See item #8 above.
18. Where will the pressurized sand tanks be placed, and how large is this space for the tanks, and what
type of access is there to get into the space? RESPONSE: The tanks shall be placed in the room adjacent
to the Pool Equipment Room - #M0015.
19. Which plumbing in the mechanical room will the vendors need to replace? RESPONSE: See item #4
above.
20. What is the horse power of the pool pumps and how many pumps are there? RESPONSE: The existing
pumps are 10 HP, and there are 2 existing pumps.
21. As a part of the Base Bid, the existing underwater observation window is to be re-sealed. As an
Alternate (#5) Contractors may elect to provide an adjustment to remove the existing window in its
entirety and fill in the existing opening with structural concrete and reinforcing, dowelled and secured
into the existing pool walls, prior to application of the pool interior finish. Finish the area to match other
pool wall surfaces as if the window did not exist.
The updated sections of Project Manual, Section 07 92 00 Joint Sealants and
Specifications Section 13 11 00 are on the following pages.

A.
Low-Emitting Interior Sealants: Sealants and sealant primers used inside the weatherproofing
system shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of
Health Services' "Standard Practice for the Testing of Volatile Organic Emissions from Various
Sources Using Small-Scale Environmental Chambers."
B.
Liquid-Applied Joint Sealants: Comply with ASTM C 920 and other requirements indicated for
each liquid-applied joint sealant specified, including those referencing ASTM C 920

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1
PREPARATION
A.
Surface Cleaning of Joints: Clean out joints immediately before installing joint sealants to
comply with joint-sealant manufacturer's written instructions.

Remove laitance and form-release agents from concrete.
Clean nonporous joint substrate surfaces with chemical cleaners or other means that do
not stain, harm substrates, or leave residues capable of interfering with adhesion of joint
sealants.
B.
Joint Priming: Prime joint substrates where recommended by joint-sealant manufacturer or as
indicated by preconstruction joint-sealant-substrate tests or prior experience. Apply primer to
comply with joint-sealant manufacturer's written instructions. Confine primers to areas of jointsealant bond; do not allow spillage or migration onto adjoining surfaces.
C.
Masking Tape: Use masking tape where required to prevent contact of sealant or primer with
adjoining surfaces that otherwise would be permanently stained or damaged by such contact or
by cleaning methods required to remove sealant smears. Remove tape immediately after tooling
without disturbing joint seal.
3.2
INSTALLATION
A.
Sealant Installation Standard: Comply with recommendations in ASTM C 1193 for use of joint
sealants as applicable to materials, applications, and conditions indicated.
B.
Install sealant backings of kind indicated to support sealants during application and at position
required to produce cross-sectional shapes and depths of installed sealants relative to joint
widths that allow optimum sealant movement capability.

Remove absorbent sealant backings that have become wet before sealant application and

curing begins, tool sealants according to requirements specified in subparagraphs below to form
smooth, uniform beads of configuration indicated; to eliminate air pockets; and to ensure
contact and adhesion of sealant with sides of joint.

Remove excess sealant from surfaces adjacent to joints.
Use tooling agents that are approved in writing by sealant manufacturer and that do not
discolor sealants or adjacent surfaces.
Provide concave joint profile per Figure 8A in ASTM C 1193, unless otherwise
indicated.
Ensure depth of sealant is no greater than 60% of the width of the joint being sealed.
Clean off excess sealant or sealant smears adjacent to joints as the Work progresses by methods
and with cleaning materials approved in writing by manufacturers of joint sealants and of
products in which joints occur.
FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A.
Field-Adhesion Testing: Field test joint-sealant adhesion to joint substrates as follows:

Extent of Testing: Test completed and cured sealant joints as follows:

Perform 2 tests for the first 100 feet of joint length for each kind of sealant and

Remove sealants that fail to adhere to joint substrates during testing or to comply with other
requirements. Retest failed applications until test results prove sealants comply with indicated
requirements.

SECTION 13 11 00
SWIMMING POOLS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01
SUMMARY OF WORK
A. Introduction
1. Furnish all labor, materials, equipment and services necessary to remodel the following: (1)
recreation pool. This work shall include the demolition and installation of new pool finishes as
well as all products listed in Part 2 of Section 13 11 00.
B.
Work included in this section
1. It is the intent of this section to place the entire responsibility for the construction remodel of
the pool under one vested CONTRACTOR.
Under this section the Swimming Pool
Contractor will provide but is not necessarily limited to the following:
a. Provide, erect and maintain all necessary barricades, signs, lights and flares for pool
construction to protect workers and the public.
b. Provide all equipment and services required for erection and delivery onto the premises of
any equipment or apparatus furnished. Remove equipment from premises when no longer
required.
c. Layout, excavate, remove from the construction site, replace and grade materials as
required to complete the work described in this section.
d. Provide and maintain proper shoring and bracing for existing utilities, sewers and building
foundations where required in order to complete the work.
e. Remove existing water from pool prior to renovations. Provide pre-treatment and
pumping systems to enable water to be disposed of on grade and flow to local storm
water drainage systems.
f. Provide all electrical conduit, wiring, junction boxes etc. to all low voltage pool equipment
and underwater lighting per Code. (Low voltage is considered less than 110 V.)
g. Ground and bond all new pool structures, fittings and equipment in accordance with Article
680 of the N.E.C. Test and verify that the system electrical ground is true and solid.
Provide certification to this effort.

h. Obtain permits, inspections, and approvals of all wiring including grounding and bonding of
all metal components associated with the pool in accordance with Local, State and
National Electrical Codes.
i. Confirm all electrical conduits that penetrate the pool shell are watertight and installed per
N.E.C. Article 680.
j. Furnish and install all necessary piping and valving required for a proper and complete
job, and to properly control the operations of the pool and ancillary systems and to
enable logical and safe repairs in the future.
k. Furnish and install a new finish in the pool with a slip resistant surface.
l. Furnish and install specialty tile for the perimeter water line tile, depth markings and warning
signs, lane lines and all other tile installation within the pool structure.
m. Replace all rusted and deteriorated deck and pool-mounted anchors, sockets, and inserts for
the pool.
n. Furnish and install deck finish beyond perimeter tile band as indicated on the drawings.
o. Provide chlorine resistant caulking (sealant) and backer rod on pool decks.
p. Provide for the storage of all pool related equipment, materials and systems. All items
are the responsibility of the CONTRACTOR until accepted by Owner.
q. Provide all safety and notification signage required by Agencies Having Jurisdiction over
the facility, as outlined in the Florida Administrative Code.
r. Obtain final acceptance by jurisdictional health department(s).
s. Start, test, calibrate and adjust all mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, recirculation,
chemical, and other supplied systems including deck, loose, maintenance, and safety
equipment. Instruct the Owner's representative in the systems operation and maintenance
as described herein.
1.03
QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. The specifications describe Work for one (1) swimming pool system that shall be utilized for
recreational use. Certain technical aspects of the design are common only to pool systems
planned for public use. Understanding these aspects, their functions and interaction through
experience is vital to completing a successful operating system.
B.
1.04
Contractor shall be a Swimming Pool Contractor, currently licensed by the State of Florida.
1. Contractor shall be certified/licensed by the Pool Finish Manufacturer to install the pool finish
and shall have been performing satisfactory installations for a minimum of (5) years.
REGULATORY AGENCY REQUIREMENTS AND ENGINEERING SERVICES
A. The entire system shall be designed and installed to meet all national and local codes and be in
compliance with applicable sections of the American National Standards Institute / National Spa

and Pool Institute (ANSI /NSPI-1 2003).

B.
The system shall comply with all necessary approvals obtained by the Contractor from local
and state regulatory agencies governing the design and construction of public swimming pools.
C.
The Contractor shall give all necessary notices, obtain all permits and pay all government fees, and
other costs in connection with his work; file all necessary drawings, prepare all documents and
obtain all necessary approvals of governmental departments having jurisdiction; obtain all required
certificates of inspection for his work and deliver same to the Owner before request for acceptance
and final payment for the work.
D. The Contractor shall include in the work, without extra cost to the Owner, any labor,
materials, services, apparatus, professional engineering services or drawings in order to comply
with all applicable laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
E.
1.05
All water discharged from pool for the execution of this Work shall be to the storm water
drainage system and shall meet the water quality guidelines as established for disposal herein.
CONTRACTOR’S ALTERNATE PROPOSALS
A. Contractor shall submit his bid to the owner based on materials, equipment and methods as
specified in this Section. No substitutions of material will be allowed.
B.
It is the intent of the contract documents to encourage competition. The base proposal must be
on furnishing the construction methods and equipment as specified. Any proposed system
substitution must have prior written approval by the Owner.
C.
All proposed substitutions of specified construction methods and equipment shall include a
complete submittal incorporating all proposed changes. The Contractor shall provide a list of at
least ten (10) satisfactory installations comparable to this project that have been manufactured
and installed under the manufacturer's current legal name. Submit a list of such projects with the
name, address and current telephone number of the Owner on the bid date.
D. Any changes or modifications to the Contract Documents that are not authorized by the Owner
shall be the sole responsibility of the Contractor.

A. Deliver material in manufacturer's original, unopened containers and crates with all labels intact
and legible.
B.
Deliver materials in sufficient time and quantity to allow continuity of work and
compliance with approved construction schedule.
C.
Handle materials in a manner to prevent damage.
D. Store all materials on clean raised platforms with weather protective coverings. Provide
continuous protection of materials against damage or deterioration.

WARRANTIES
A. The CONTRACTOR warrants to the Owner that materials and equipment furnished under
the contract will be of good quality and new unless otherwise required or permitted by the
contract documents, that the work will be free from defects not inherent in the quality required
or permitted, and that the work will conform with the requirements of the contract documents.
Work not conforming to these requirements, including substitutions not properly approved and
authorized may be considered defective. The CONTRACTOR'S warranty may exclude remedies
for damage or defect caused by abuse, improper or insufficient maintenance, improper operations,
modifications not executed by the CONTRACTOR or improper wear and tear under normal
use. If required by the Owner, the CONTRACTOR shall furnish satisfactory evidence as to the
kind and quality of materials and equipment. All warranties shall be for a period of one year from
the date of substantial completion or the owner begins using the pool unless otherwise specified.
B.
The CONTRACTOR shall agree to repair or replace any defective or non-complying work

at no cost to the Owner upon written notification from the Owner within the warranty period. Prorated warranties are not acceptable.
C.
Submit all warranties covering, but not limited to the following:
1. All pool deck equipment and accessories against defects in material, manufacturer and
installation for a period of one (1) year.
2. Defects in material, workmanship, and installation of the pool piping system for a period
of three (3) years.
1.10
START-UP CHEMICALS AND WATER SUPPLY
A. The CONTRACTOR shall provide the necessary plant equipment so that the temperature of
fill water will be within plus or minus 10 degrees of the ambient air and/or the pool structure at the
time of filling. Extreme caution is urged if the temperature variance is greater than 10 degree F.
B.
The CONTRACTOR shall provide the necessary chemicals and to adjust and balance the water
chemistry in the pools to the following levels:

The CONTRACTOR shall maintain the chemical balance of the pool water (including the cost of
all chemicals required) until the pool and mechanical system(s) are fully operational and accepted
by the Owner.
D. Chemicals to be provided to the Owner shall include those required by the chemical feed systems
installed.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01
OVERFLOW SYSTEM
A. It is the intent of the specifications that the perimeter overflow system and surface cleaning
be maintained under all conditions of normal operation and that no water be discharged to
waste except when cleaning the filters or emptying the pool.
B.
The equalizer piping and fittings shall be sized to meet the capacity requirements of the filter and
pump and shall be in no case less than 2 inches in diameter. The equalizer float valve assembly
shall remain tightly closed under normal operating conditions but will automatically open when
the water level drops below the lowest weir operating level.
1. The equalizer fitting shall be a design to reduce the possibility of hair entrapment in the
fitting.
2. Pool skimmers shall be Sta-Rite Model U-3 #08650-1403 white, or equivalent.
Hayward Model SP108 2-1 skimmer is acceptable. Equalizer suction fittings shall have a
Federal Pool and Spa Safety Act (ASME / ANSI A112.19.8-2007) compliant cover

manufactured by Aquastar, model #AV9101, Pentair model Starguard, or approved equal.
2.02
PUMPING EQUIPMENT
1. Recirculating Pumps (2) – Pentair EQ series variable speed, 10 HP, 208volt, 3 phase, or
equivalent. Mount on vibration isolators and Inertia Pads, with all necessary connections,
new valves, check valves, and flanged fittings, etc.
2. Install new pumps with Variable Frequency Drive systems, interlocked and integrated with
existing DCM5 control system.
a. Set pumps to run at peak efficiency.
3. Integrate pumps and motor drives with existing control system.
2.03
FILTRATION EQUIPMENT
A. The filter system shall be converted to utilize multiple high rate pressure sand filter
tanks, sized to meet existing pool size, and purification and regulatory requirements.
1. Remove existing DE grids from collector tank.
2. Acid-wash interior of existing collector tank.
3. Remove any loose materials or surfaces with hollowing backing.
4. Repair substrate of collector tank.
5. Apply new finish to collector tank to match finish being installed on pool walls.
6. Remove existing concrete tank supports from Equipment Storage Room and dispose of
debris.
7. Set new housekeeping pads/filter pads for mounting new filters.
8. Install new high-rate pressurized sand filtration systems; minimum (2) Stark S Series filters,
sized for pool demands.
9. Integrate automatic backwash with system controlled by pool system control system
10. Install manual backwash bypass system
11. Install 6” sight glass spool and influent, effluent gauges.
12. Install piping and supports as required for full and complete installation.
2.04
OZONE TREATMENT SYSTEM
A. Install in-line ozone treatment system after filtration and treatment systems.
1. Size system for water flow and quantity.
2. Provide electrical hook-ups and connections.
3. Connect to and integrate with existing DCM5 control system.
2.05
SALT SALINE CHLORINE GENERATION SYSTEM (ALTERNATE BID #2)
A. Install in-line salt saline chorine system after filtration and treatment systems.
1. Size system for water flow and quantity (approx 24 lbs of chlorine per day)

b. Basis of Specification: Provide (4) Hayward Saline C6.0 or equivalent

2.06
RECIRCULATION FITTINGS
A. Install new VGB code-compliant main drain frames and grate covers at existing
concrete sumps.
B.
Wall inlet fittings shall be cycolac directional inlet by Hayward, Sta-Rite, or Swimtime.
C.
Static water line inlet fitting for the automatic water level controller shall be provided
consisting of a cycolac body, grate and construction shield. The body shall have a 1-1/2 inch
solvent weld connection and provided with an integral molded "knock-out" membrane to
facilitate line pressure testing. The static water line inlet fitting shall be a Hayward SP-1026
mounted in a Hayward Model SP-1022S or equal.
2.07
PIPING SYSTEMS
A. General
1. Provide all recirculating piping between the pool and equipment room.
2. Provide all necessary pipe supports and support systems required to support all
associated piping and valves.
3. Provide all other tubing, conduit, or piping associated with equipment specified herein.
Coordinate with other trades.
B.
Pipes
1. Pipe routing as shown and detailed on the contract drawings is diagrammatic only and is
not intended to show minor details or exact locations of piping systems. Installation is
required to be adjusted to accommodate interference and adjustments anticipated
and encountered. Pipe sizes on plans refer to nominal inside diameter of the pipe.
2. All PVC swimming pool piping shall be NSF approved and conform to the
requirements of ASTM D-1785.
3. All PVC pipes and fittings shall be the product of one manufacturer. Approved manufacturers
of PVC piping are Eslon, Harvel, and Chemtrol or approved equal.
4. Swimming pool piping above the floor in the equipment room shall be Schedule 40
PVC.
5. Swimming pool piping below the deck shall be NSF approved, Schedule 80 PVC.
6. All below grade swimming pool piping can be backfilled with native granular material free of
ice, clay, debris, organic matter, and rocks larger than 4" across their greatest dimension, and
per recommendations indicated in the project geotechnical report.
7. All materials shall be installed by workmen thoroughly skilled in their trades and all work

shall present a neat and mechanical appearance when complete. The CONTRACTOR, at no
additional expense to the Owner, shall replace or correct any work not judged acceptable by the
Owner’s or their consultants.
8. No installation shall be made that will provide a cross-connection or interconnection between
a distributing supply for drinking purposes and the swimming pool, or between the pool and a
sanitary or storm water sewer system that will permit a backflow of water into the pool water
system.
9. All piping shall be hydrostatically (water) pressure tested for leaks before and after
backfilling to guarantee water tightness. Pneumatic (air) pressure test not allowed.
10. All mechanical equipment to be connected into the recirculation piping system shall be done so
using flanged or union connections.

Provisions shall be made to purge all pipes in the system.
CHEMICAL TREATMENT SYSTEM - EXISTING
A. EXISTING (Liquid Chlorine) feed system.

EXISTING pH Buffering System (Muriatic Acid) – hand supplied.
WATER LEVEL CONTROLLER
A. In-Deck Water Level Controller. Provide a make-up water solenoid valve, normally closed,
stainless steel fitted, bronze body, 115 VAC slow closing type. Size to pipe. Such as Asco,
OAE.
2.10
INSERTS AND ANCHOR SOCKETS
A. Sockets and anchors shall be provided as stainless steel or cast bronze for swimming pool
accessories and set prior to placing any concrete.
The CONTRACTOR shall confirm
compatibility of deck equipment and deck anchors with the deck equipment manufacturer. All
anchors or sockets shall be furnished with flush closure caps and escutcheons with set screws
where indicated. Escutcheons shall be of the keyhole or oblong shape, similar to the Kiefer CPB
escutcheon, product #700303, or equal.
1. Anchor sockets for all railings and grab rails shall be of the wedge type, cast of grade
300 series stainless steel, 6 inches in depth and made to receive 1.50 inch OD tubing as
manufactured by Spectrum Products, part number 24090 or equal. The wedge shall be cast
brass (85-5-5-5), incorporate a stainless steel tightening bolt and flat washer, and be designed
as the sacrificial element to the anchor system. All metallic components shall be passivated, in
compliance with ASTM A967-99, incorporating organic acid passivation techniques for
maximum corrosion resistance.
2.11
DECK EQUIPMENT
A. Grab rails and ladders shall be furnished and installed as required in existing locations and quantities
as required by Agencies Having Jurisdiction over the Pool. Grab rails shall be fabricated of one
continuous length of polished and buffed tubing. The tubing shall be ASTM-A-554 grade 304L

stainless steel, 1.50 inch OD x .120 inch wall thickness, polished and buffed to 320 grit finish and
shall be passivated, in compliance with ASTM A967-99, incorporating organic acid passivation
techniques for maximum corrosion resistance. All bends shall be smooth and free of wrinkles.
Grab rails shall be pretzel bend as manufactured by Spectrum Products, SR Smith, Paragon
Aquatics similar to Spectrum Cisco, part no. 23437, or approved equal.
2.12
POOL TILE
A.
2.13
Pool Tile – Replace all existing tile with new tile.
a. Install tile around existing gutter lip to provide a maximum ¼” variation around
perimeter of pool, as required by Code.
b. Install factory-glazed Depth Marker tiles, as required by Code.
c. Install factory-glazed “No Diving” tiles, using international signage graphics, as
required by Code.
d. Install new Lap Lane tile and Target tile on walls to match existing lane
configurations.
e. Install other tiles as required by Code and by Best Practices.
f. Provide non-slip tiles on horizontal surfaces.
g. Provide smooth-glazed tiles at water edge surfaces.
h. All tile shall be commercial grade, porcelain body.
i. Install tile using current TCA Installation Guidelines and systems (#P601TB for thinset applications and #PB601MB for Mud Bed applications)
i. Follow ANSI A108.5 for tile installation specifications.
ii. Follow ANSI A108.6 for Cementitious Grout
iii. Provide movement joints at 8’ – 12’ on center (TCA system EJ171F)
j. Install Flexible sealant between tile and adjacent, dis-similar surfaces.
i. Utilize sealants meeting ASTM C920, suitable for pool applications.
POOL FINISHES
A. “Hydrazzo ®” marble-cement plaster by Aquavations shall be included as the Base Bid.
1. Description: “Hydrazzo ®” finish shall be a blend of selected quartz aggregates and fortified
white Portland cement. Color: white, utilizing manufacturer’s standard color mixes.
2. Surface Preparation: Pool surface must be free of dirt, oil, grease or other foreign materials.
Prepare surface as required to properly accept new finish.
3. Mixing: Thoroughly mix finish to a homogeneous lump-free consistency, following
manufacturers instructions.
4. Application: Finish shall be applied to a uniform thickness of 3/8” to 1/2” over the entire
surface. The walls shall be scratch-coated followed by a finish coat. Material applied to the
floor after the walls have been applied shall be accelerated to assure uniform setting time
throughout the pool surface.
a. Provide logical and clean stopping points where finish cannot be completed in one
days work. Make adequate provisions to allow for continuation of Work without
visible or noticeable seams or joints.
5. Manufacturers Assurance: All bidders shall be prepared to submit a performance bond for their work.

UNDERWATER LIGHTS
A. Underwater lights shall be equivalent to 500 watts of incandescent light and provided by the
CONTRACTOR. Pool lights shall be UL listed and in the quantities shown and as detailed in
the construction drawings and as described in these specifications required to replace
existing. Coordinate for proper installation. Refer to the drawings for quantities and Replace in
existing locations.
B.
The lights shall be 120VAC or 12VAC, LED-type, and equivalent to 500 watts of incandescent
light. Fixture housing shall be stainless steel construction with minimum wall thickness of
0.020 inch per UL 676 underwater pool lighting standard. The niche shall be stainless steel
with cast brass mounting ring or PVC plastic with stainless steel mounting ring. Brass
construction pressure grounding lug on interior and exterior services. Lens shall be 8-3/8
diameter clear tempered heat resistant glass. Gasket to be single-piece "U" shaped santoprene or
silicone. Fasteners shall be silicon-bronze or stainless steel. The light fixture shall be supplied

with a #16-3 STW (120V) or 12-3 SJTW (12V) submersible cord with ground wire
positively grounded inside the fixture. Cord entrance shall be a watertight seal and epoxy
encapsulated. Light fixture to be IntelliBrite White LED series (5000 deg-K) by Pentair
Commercial Pool and Aquatics or equal. Cord length as required.
C.
2.15
Junction boxes shall be furnished in the quantities required and shall be located at least 8”
above the pool coping and 5' from the pool edge. Refer to the Electrical drawings. Cord
length shall be sufficient to run from fixture to the junction box with sufficient cable in the
niche to re-lamp the fixture on the deck. The conduit from the niche to the junction box shall
be sealed and hydrostatically pressure tested for leaks before and after backfilling to guarantee
water tightness.
POOL CONCRETE BEAM
A. Clean and repair the existing concrete perimeter beam.
a. Remove all existing tile on beam and replace where required to comply with current
codes.
b. Patch cementitious plaster to match existing adjacent surfaces.
c. Provide Alternate cost #3 to coat existing beam with new, integral color cementitious
coating over existing.
2.16
POOL HEAT EXCHANGER - EXISTING
A. The existing Heat Exchanger shall be re-used. Make connections thereto as required using
existing piping. Install new valves and fittings as required to control water flow and to facilitate
maintenance.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01
EXISTING CONDITIONS, INSPECTION AND PREPARATION
A. Carefully examine all of the contract documents for requirements that affect the work of this
section. Prior to starting any work, notify the Owner of defects requiring correction. Do not start
work until conditions are satisfactory.
B. Protect all materials and work from damage while completing the work in this section.
3.02
REMOVAL OF EXISTING SYSTEMS AND MATERIALS
A. Remove existing equipment that is not to be re-used. Dispose of equipment off site; recycling or
repurposing is desired wherever possible. Credits or Rebates for recycling of materials shall be
credited back towards the Project.
B. Remove existing water from pool by pumping water to grade and allowing flow to local
stormwater drainage systems.

3.03
PIPING INSTALLATION
A. General
1. Provide and erect, according to the best practices of the trade, all piping shown on the
engineering drawings provided for permitting and required for the complete installation of
these systems. The piping shown on the drawings shall be considered as diagrammatic in
indicating the general run and connections, and may or may not in all parts be shown in its
true position. The piping may have to be off set, lowered or raised as required or as directed at
the site. This does not relieve the CONTRACTOR from responsibility for the proper erection
of the systems or piping in every respect suitable for the work intended as described in the
specifications and approved by the Owner. In the erection of all piping, it shall be
properly supported and proper provisions shall be made for expansion, contraction and
anchoring of piping. All piping shall be cut accurately for fabrication to measurements
established at the construction site. Pipe shall be worked into place without springing
and/or forcing, properly clearing all windows, doors, and other openings and equipment.
Cutting or other weakening of the building structure to facilitate installation will not be
permitted. All pipes shall have burrs and/or cutting slag removed by reaming or other cleaning
methods in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. All changes in direction
shall be made with fittings. All open ends of pipes and equipment shall be properly capped or
plugged to keep dirt and other foreign materials out of the systems. Plugs of rags, wool,
cotton waste or similar materials may not be used in plugging. All piping shall be arranged so
as not to interfere with removal and maintenance of equipment, filters or devices, and so as not
to block access to manholes, access openings, etc. Flanges or unions as applicable for the
type of piping specified shall be provided in the piping at connections to all items of
equipment. All piping shall be installed to ensure noiseless circulation. All valves and
specialties shall be so placed to permit easy operation and access.
B.
Pipe Hangers and Supports
1. Pipes shall be adequately supported by pipe hangers and supports as required.
C. Piping Installation
1. Trench bottoms shall be smooth and free of rocks and debris. If the trench is dug in ledge
rock, hardpan or where large boulders are not removed, place 3 inches of sand or compacted
fine-grained soil below pipe. Pipe must be supported over its entire length with firm, stable
material. Blocking may not be used to change pipe grade or provide intermittent support over
low sections in the trench. Surround the pipe with backfill with a particle size of 1-1/2
inch or less and in accordance with the project geotechnical report. Compact in layers not to

exceed 6 inches with vibratory method. Follow installation methods of ASTM D2774
"Underground Installation of Thermoplastic Pressure Piping".
D. Flushing, Draining and Cleaning Pipe Systems
1. The CONTRACTOR shall flush out all water systems with water before placing them in
operation. Other systems shall be cleaned by using compressed air or nitrogen. After
systems are in operation and during the test period, all strainer screens shall be removed and
thoroughly cleaned.
E.
Expansion and Contraction
1. The CONTRACTOR shall make all necessary provisions for expansion and
contraction of piping with offsets, loops, flexible connections and anchors as required to
prevent undue strain. The CONTRACTOR shall provide shop drawings for proposed method
and arrangement for control of expansion and contraction of piping.
3.03
EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS INSTALLATION
A. The CONTRACTOR shall assemble and install all equipment, special parts and
accessories as shown on pool drawings, specifications and shop drawings of the equipment
suppliers.
B.
The CONTRACTOR shall furnish all anchors and inserts to be imbedded in the deck
including all fittings, inserts and structure sleeves and required anchorage as shown on the plans
and as indicated in this section of the specifications. Equipment shall be set true and plumb,
using factory jigs where available. Removable equipment items shall be easily removable from
anchors and shall fit without noticeable wobble.
C.
The CONTRACTOR shall install all equipment and systems in accordance with
manufacturer's directions. Equipment shall all be assembled and in place for final observation.
D. All items necessary to complete this section are shown on the plans or described in the
specifications including items that may be purchased by the Owner. Items are detailed and
specified as a guide for dimensional purposes. The CONTRACTOR must make provisions
accordingly and submit shop drawings and submittals based on that data.
3.04
CONCLUSION
A. It is the intention of these specifications to provide a complete installation. All accessory
construction and apparatus necessary in the operation or testing of the performance of the work
shall be included. The omission of specific reference to any part of the work necessary for
such complete installation shall not be interpreted as relieving the CONTRACTOR from
furnishing and installing such parts. Any such omission or clarification shall be brought to the
attention of the Owner prior to bidding as provided in this section.
