Industrial Solutions and Services SITRAFFIC C840V Traffic Controller Designed for use wherever there are traffic signals using new LED technology Your Success is Our Goal Helping the environment and your budget Light signals with 40 V LED technology need up to 90 % less power than conventional signals with filament lamps. Depending on the size of the city and the transport infrastructure, this is a lot of energy that neither has to be generated, transported, consumed nor, naturally, paid for either. This relieves the environment and also your budget. More safety at every intersection The perfect combination – legendary reliability and the latest 40 V LED technology Siemens has developed a new controller which is specially designed for controlling 40 V LED signal heads. It is called SITRAFFIC® C840V – and the name says a lot. On the one hand, that it is a traffic controller from the reliable SITRAFFIC C800 family. This means the same tools, the same programming language and the same easy handling. On the other hand, the name shows that the unit has been specially designed for new signal heads based on 40 volt LED technology. We are convinced that this is a combination that users all over the world will appreciate. Perhaps also in your own area in the not too distant future? Lateral light, glaring sunshine and reflections are problems that often make it necessary for road users to look very closely at the traffic signals to see what they are actually indicating. And, frequently, all they see is phantom light. This new technology prevents such situations. The signal heads have a considerably more uniform field of illumination and are easier to see from the side. An improvement in safety for all road users. Traffic systems experience which pays off Siemens has been improving the traffic situation around the globe for over 100 years. With products and systems of the most variegated kinds and with solutions of all degrees and levels of complexity. This enormous fund of experience generates direct advantages for all our customers. After all, Siemens is fully aware of how important (and how cost-effective in the long term) the absolute reliability of traffic control equipment is. Whatever the weather and whatever the situation. The new SITRAFFIC C840V traffic controllers are an impressive demonstration of this level of reliability. Cologne looks to the future Traffic signals with low-voltage LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) belong to the future. They consume up to 90 % less energy, have a considerably longer life cycle and are easy to see even when the light is bad. This increases road safety, while taking pressure off community budgets and also off the environment. In fall 2004, Siemens installed Germany’s first traffic lights with low-voltage LEDs in Cologne. The controller is called SITRAFFIC C840V. SITRAFFIC C840V – the power box for all 40 V signal heads has what it takes and more! The new controllers are designed for use all over the world. This means they can cope with all climates and operating conditions. Glimmering heat or biting cold, high humidity or even a sandstorm – whatever the situation, the SITRAFFIC C840V can always be relied on. The units also have an “inner life” that is compatible with existing traffic-computer control centers and ensures harmonious interaction with other systems from the SITRAFFIC family. The latest technology: a 200-MHz PC module in the SITRAFFIC C840V enables a linkup to OCIT control centers Proven and reliable Software with the familiar look and feel The SITRAFFIC C840V has a CPU with a proven 32-bit processor system that controls up to 48 signal groups. The memory can be expanded in stages up to 9.5 megabytes at a time. States of traffic lights that can cause a hazard to traffic are ruled out completely in that fail-safe signal monitoring is performed by two independent microprocessors (in accordance with VDE 0832). In the case of the SITRAFFIC C840V as well, the tools of the SITRAFFIC C800 family are setting standards for user-oriented software. Flexible variety, from simple to complex The SITRAFFIC C840V is suitable for use in both simple and complex public-transport priority control systems. The tried-and-tested 4-channel loop detectors of the LD4 series and also modern video detectors can be connected without any problems. As an alternative to connection of a central lamp switch, the new 40 V LED types of signal head with PLUS technology are also used with decentralized lamp switches. For this purpose, there is the SITRAFFIC C840VP switching device with modified peripheral switching elements. SITRAFFIC CONTROL, the data input program of the C800V, is based on a uniform concept with a modern look and feel for all known functions. SITRAFFIC SERVICE provides testing tools for operator control, testing and fault diagnostics and offers all functional levels – from fully graphics-based visualization to detailed expert information. SITRAFFIC LANGUAGE (TL) helps the operator to solve traffic control problems. Structograms or flowcharts can be used to convert traffic control tasks into a program code without the necessity of possessing a great deal of programming knowledge. Library modules contain ready-made solutions for many different traffic problems. PDM/TL control model: With this freely programmable and stage-oriented model, control problems can be solved individually – and comprehensive knowledge of programming languages is not required. Parameterizable traffic-control function libraries provide assistance in this respect. Parameterization instead of programming. The software tools of the SITRAFFIC C840V help the user to quickly find the optimum control solution. VA component: S-X. This tool can be used to rationally implement traffic-control functions with public-transport priorities based on stage-oriented planning stipulations. The key performance characteristic of S-X is a standardized control procedure for whose individual functions prototypes have been specified. The user takes advantage of the predefined framework and is spared the time-consuming selection of the individual modules needed and the preparation of a logical sequence concept. Standardized method: S-L. This can be used to implement functions to match stageoriented planning stipulations. The logical sequence of the traffic control functions is predefined, whereas adaptation to the respective intersection-specific requirements is performed solely by means of parameterization. SIEMENS VS PLUS: This software package contains a standardized, parameterizable control method. It offers the advantages provided by a traffic-actuated controller without therefore having to create a conventional user program. Not so with the SITRAFFIC C840V traffic controllers. In spite of their pioneering 40-volt technology, we have intentionally relied on the same tools, programming languages and handling details which already characterize the whole C800 family. In the tables on this double page spread, we show the differences between the devices and what they have in common.
