SensaModular Simple, cost effective and easy to install for single-room lighting control Introduction Thorn’s Indoor Lighting Controls portfolio is grouped into three distinct usage types 1 2 1. SensaLite features Thorn luminaires with built-in sensors and remote sensors, offering standard presence detection, daylight-linking and infra-red control. SensaLite is the first step to comfort and energy saving, and is used for small office applications, simple classrooms, corridors etc: •SwitchLite consists of switching presence detectors and photocells •RotaryDIM offers precise manual control via a wall plate •SensaDigital covers both features: Daylight-linked dimming, presence detection and manual override via an infra-red handheld controller 2 3 2. SensaModular is a portfolio of lighting control products designed for single room applications. The ‘modular’ concept allows customers to build-up a set of components tailored specifically to their needs: •U sers can select modules for creating light scenes, enabling daylight-linking, integrating presence detection, switching, scene setting and infra-red control • Just the components needed are taken and connected to, up to three groups of dimmable luminaires via a controller 3. SensaAdvanced is a lighting management system for larger projects and those requiring greater levels of comfort: •For all types of dimmable or switchable ballasts or lamps • Daylight and Presence link •Integration of blinds, screens and room partitions •Different user interfaces like touch panels, wall units or PC • Scene setting • Time and Dynamic management • A/V interface What is SensaModular? SensaModular is for everyone looking for a versatile product that is easy to install and understand SensaModular controller with 3 luminaire outputs (DSI or DALI) Scene Plate Plat late Scene Multi-sensor Infra-red handheld controller iX connection for up to 8 devices (sensors, scene plates, switch inputs, 1 photo cell) Multi-sensor Photo cell (max. 1) Standard double or single momentary action switches to dim/brighten luminaire groups Unlike traditional dimmer pack or building-wide solutions, it is a simple, cost effective modular solution capable of saving time and labour for all indoor single-room applications with two or three luminaire groups. Its modularity is based on the controller which interfaces with various combinations of scene plates, sensors, switches and receivers to operate groups of luminaires, thus offering users flexibility and comfort with the reassurance that all components integrate fully with each other. Key benefits are: 1Different ways of presence linking, allowing SensaModular to be adapted to the required detection pattern, and different operation modes. 2.Three methods of daylightlinking, making it easy to tailor SensaModular to the application, especially in terms of size, usage and ceiling height. 3.Scene setting via: Scene plate, Infra-red handheld control or Switch input device. 4.DSI/DALI auto detection outputs (patented) for controlling luminaire groups, the large SensaModular controller allows three digital outputs, the small controller two. 5.Easy installation via polarityfree 2-wire connections, using standard mains rated installation material. 3 Performance, Efficiency and Comfort (PEC) – for a better lit environment SensaModular evokes the spirit of Thorn Lighting’s dynamic, results-orientated PEC programme The programme is based on the principle that Performance, Efficiency and Comfort determine the effectiveness of lighting, its impact on the people using it, and its impact on the natural environment. SensaModular delivers the right light on the right place at the right time. Performance: Providing the best visual effectiveness •Dimming and Scene setting gives flexibility of the lighting configuration, therefore SensaModular ensures good task lighting wherever the task is. 4 Efficiency: Conserving energy and effort, reducing CO2 emissions and waste, providing lighting that is practical and efficient to install, operate and maintain. •Presence-link conserves energy by ensuring unnecessary lighting is turned off. •Daylight-link conserves energy by ensuring the task is lit to the correct level and not over lit, irrespective of the source of light. •Maintenance control is provided with the SensaModular multi-sensors, i.e. constant task illuminance is given throughout the maintenance cycle of the lighting, conserving energy and easing the maintenance requirements. • Polarity-free connections make SensaModular quick and easy to install with reduced possibility of errors. • There are two screwdriver adjustable rotary switches on the front of the controller, which will set the operation mode and off delay time for the presence-link function. This makes commissioning quick, easy and safe being operated from the ground. • SensaModular gives us a lighting system we can manage effectively and ensures that the whole lighting performs as designed. Comfort: giving people satisfaction and stimulation •Personalised light, either with dimming or with scene setting, allows the ambience of the space to be altered to suit the usage requirements. •SensaModular allows the variability of the light through time, giving a more interesting and stimulating environment. SensaModular allows the realisation of these energy savings in every single room indoor lighting application. 5 Key Benefit - Tailored-fit presence-link The most expensive light is the one that is still on in unoccupied rooms or areas. SensaModular enables you to automatically conserve energy whenever people are absent, allowing you to choose between three options: Using one SensaModular multi-sensor per luminaire group •The SensaModular multi-sensors provide a presence-link function that may be allocated to the luminaire groups individually. •This option is perfect for applications with zoned lighting, e.g. group offices, and considers the recommendations regarding presence-link stated in EN 15193, asking for zoned presence-link in applications larger than 30m². Using one SensaModular multi-sensor for all luminaire groups •This option provides a presence-link function for all luminaire groups connected to the SensaModular controller, and is ideal in small applications where daylight-link and infra-red control are required. Using one SwitchLite presence detector for all luminaire groups •Any standard 230 VAC presence detector, e.g. one of the Thorn SwitchLite portfolio, can be used as an alternative to the SensaModular multi-sensors. This can be connected to the dedicated “PD” input of the controller and is allocated to all luminaire groups. •This option is perfect for any application requiring a different detection pattern to that of the SensaModular multi-sensor, for instance corridors and staircases, and also for applications where no daylight-link and infra-red control is needed. 6 On/Off On/Off On/Off On/Off On/Off On/Off only only only Off Off Off PD PD PD On/Corridor On/Corridor On/Corridor PD PD PDMode Mode Mode PD PD PDMode Mode Mode PD PD PDMode Mode Mode On/Corridor On/Corridor On/Corridor PD PD PDMode Mode Mode PD PD PDMode Mode Mode PDPD PD On/Corridor On/Corridor On/Corridor Absence-link (only Off mode) Lighting is slowly faded to Off, after a set Off delay time, as soon as a connected sensor 000 60 60 60 If several 0.5 0.5 0.5 sensors detects absence. are used thenOn/Off SensaModular On/Off On/Off111 45 45 45 will delay fading to Off until all of the 30 sensors 555 30 30 have reported only only absence. This mode also helps when the SensaModular installation is commissioned. Off Delay time After detecting absence SensaModular will wait for a configurable Off time delay before fading to the absence setting specified with the set operation mode. This time delay can be between 0 seconds and 1 hour. Note: If a standard presence detector (e.g. SwitchLite) is used, its own Off Delay time is added to that set on the SensaModular controller. 60 60 60 Staircase function By connecting a standard momentary action switch to the SensaModular controller’s presence detector input, a ‘staircase’ function can be realised. Activating the momentary action switch announces presence and the lighting is switched On. After the set Off delay time the lighting is faded to Off, if the operation mode is set to On/ Off, or alternatively faded to a corridor illuminance level of 10%, if the mode is set to On/Corridor. 7 Key Benefit - Tailored-fit daylight-link 0% 25% 50% 0% 500lux Daylight Artificial light 0% 50% Daylight Artificial light 25% 50% 500lux 500lux Daylight Artificial light Using one ‘look down’ sensor per luminaire group Using one ‘look out’ photocell for all luminaire groups Using one ‘look down’ sensor for all luminaire groups For daylight-linking one multi-sensor per luminaire group is installed on the ceiling, aimed at the working plane to register the light level. For daylight-linking one photocell sensor is installed on the ceiling and aimed in the direction of the window to register incoming daylight. Advantages: Advantages: For the daylight-linking of smaller rooms, e.g. a single office or meeting room, one multi-sensor for all luminaire groups is installed on the ceiling, aimed at the working plane to register the light level. •Supports the recommendations stated in EN 15193, which ask for daylight-linking of zones smaller than 30m2, thus resulting in a good rating of the installation for ‘building passport’ purposes •Visual and physical intrusion on the ceiling is kept to a minimum as only one sensor is needed to register the flow of daylight for up to three individually controlled luminaire groups. •Maintains illuminance despite aging of lamps and dirt on luminaires. •With only daylight to register measurements are precise, thus maximising daylight saving potential. •Ideal for larger, zoned applications, like group offices. •SensaModular multi-sensor heads combine daylight with presence linking and infra-red control. Points to consider: •Measures daylight and artificial light reflected from desktop – therefore influenced by reflecting material and colour. •Several sensors needed (one per luminaire group), therefore more obtrusive. •Impact of overlapping detection zones. 8 25% •Ideal for applications with luminaire rows and/or ceiling heights of more than 3m, or where zoned presence-link is not required, e.g. classrooms, industrial or sports halls. Points to consider: •Does not consider aging of lamps and luminaires becoming dirty. •SensaModular photocell does not provide presence-linking and infra-red control. Advantages: •For applications not requiring zoned areas, visual and physical intrusion on the ceiling is kept to a minimum as only one sensor is needed to register the flow of daylight for up to three individually controlled luminaire groups. •Maintains illuminance despite aging of lamps and dirt on luminaires. •The SensaModular multi-sensor head combines daylight with presence-linking and infra-red control. Points to consider: •Measures daylight and artificial light reflected from one local desktop – therefore influenced by reflecting material and colour. •Does not consider the recommendations stated in EN 15193 in applications larger than 30m². Key Benefit - Scene setting No application is used for only one activity or task: Therefore SensaModular allows a user to set scenes and to adapt the lighting to the different tasks. Scene plate With the wall recessed SensaModular scene plate three scenes as well as the Off scene can be set and recalled. The active scene is visualised with indicator LEDs integrated into the keys. Three pairs of keys are used to dim and brighten the luminaire groups individually and a further pair allow all luminaires to be dimmed or brightened. The scene plate has a brass front in satin steel finish, matching back boxes are available as accessories. Infra-red handheld control The SensaModular infra-red handheld controller allows the setting and recalling of three scenes and the Off scene. The whole lighting can be dimmed and brightened via a rocker key, or after using the pre-selection buttons the luminaire groups can be dimmed individually. This device is also used to allocate the SensaModular multisensors to the luminaire groups. For the reception either the SensaModular multi-sensors or (if these are not planned in) the SensaModular infra-red sensors can be used. Switch input device As an alternative to the wallrecessed scene plate, standard momentary action switches can be used in conjunction with the SensaModular switch input device to recall three scenes and the Off scene. 9 Key Benefit - DSI/DALI auto detection SensaModular uses DSI/DALI auto detection luminaire outputs (patented), and allows you to connect either: Maximum number of ballasts connected to ‘SensaMod-2DIG’ controller •Luminaires with electronic ballasts showing DSI (Digital Serial Interface) controllability, e.g. Thorn HFD luminaire versions Output • Luminaires with DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) controllability, e.g. Thorn HFX luminaire versions HFD luminaires only 50 DSI 50 DSI HFX luminaires only 25 DALI 25 DALI 25 DSI or DALI 25 DSI or DALI •One ballast type, either DSI or DALI, can be connected to each controller output (see table for permitted configurations and quantities) Every luminaire output of a SensaModular controller will check, individually, the type of ballasts used and automatically adapt its control “language”.
