Besides housing Student Success, Krach also serves as the ‘hub’ for the Purdue Student Government, Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life, among other organizations. BGR 2016 THEME Each year, BGR selects an overarching theme to guide our application process and trainings. The theme for 2016 is Discovery. As Purdue students, we are constantly discovering more about ourselves, our school, each other, and the world. Our Discovery begins here. BGR TEAM LEADER The Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) and Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi) Team Leader (TL/TLi) position is a great leadership opportunity. Each Team Leader will be mentoring a group of new students and introducing them to life at Purdue! TL REQUIREMENTS MAINTAIN A CUMULATIVE GPA OF 2.5 OR HIGHER BE A FULL TIME PURDUE STUDENT LIVE AT PURDUE WEST LAFAYETTE FOR THE SPRING 2016 AND FALL 2016 SEMESTERS PARTICIPATE IN 6 WEEKS OF CONTINUED TRANSITION DURING FALL 2016 SEMESTER BE IN GOOD DISCIPLINARY & ACADEMIC STANDING TEAM LEADER INTERNATIONAL TLi’s return a week earlier than the other Team Leaders. (August 9th) Team Leader International’s help orient international students to campus and the United States. This includes setting up bank accounts, getting new cell phones, and learning about American culture. After BGRi, TLi’s continue through BGR programming with the groups. TL ACCESSORIES Water Bottle - TLs are here to help new students Khakis - TLs serve as a professional role model as well as mentor Shoes - TLs need to attend ALL BGR events BGR Shirt - TLs work together to make BGR great Name Tag- TLs communicate with BGR staff Beacon - TLs are creative and enthusiastic TEAM LEADER EVENTS SPRING 2016 Required to Attend: -One retreat: either April 2 or April 3 -Three trainings during April -Monthly Team Socials FALL 2016 -Return August 9 (TLi) or August 12 (TL) -Team Leaders will live in their own permanent housing, arranged on their own, for the entire duration of BGR -Participate in BGR programming for the first 6 weeks of the school year. Wednesday, August 10th and Thursday, August 11th: BGRi Training. Friday, August 12th: BGRi Move-in begins. TL’s return to campus for training. Saturday, August 13th and Sunday, August 14th: BGR Training. Monday, August 15th: BGR Move-in begins. APPLICATION PROCESS STEP ONE ONLINE APPLICATION WITH ESSAY STEP TWO IN-PERSON GROUP INTERVIEW APPLICATION PROCESS STEP ONE January 29th 12:01 AM: Online Application goes live February 4th 11:59 PM: Online Application closes February 8th 5:00 PM: Online Application decision released via email, accepted applicants choose interview date and time. First come, first served. STEP TWO February 10th – February 24th: Interviews take place March 9th: Team Leader/Team Leader International Notification via email ONLINE APP TIPS The essay, application, and other info will be available at purdue.edu/bgr on the Team Leader tab when the application goes live. Compose your essay in a Word document before beginning the application. Copy and paste it into the online form. The application will not save your essay if you lose Internet connection. Only 1,200 applicants will be accepted. Once 1,200 applicants have applied, the online application will close. GROUP INTERVIEW TIPS • There will be 2 activities and a 1 on 1 interview. • 2:45 long • Arrive 30 minutes early • Bring PUID • Wear business casual (no jeans or skirts) • Standby is first come, first served. • Be yourself! You do not have to be loud to be a TL! INELIGIBILITY If you are also applying to be one of the following, you can not be a Team Leader for BGR 2016: Gamma Chi Supplemental Instruction Leader Resident Assistants Good luck in your endeavors! PLANE TICKETS DO NOT buy a plane ticket until you have officially been offered a 2016 BGR Team Leader position. If you plan to be out of the country this summer and you are selected to be a TL, you must let us know. You will send your itinerary to us so we know you will be back on time for either BGR or BGRi. If you are not back on time, you will be dismissed as a TL. PLANE TICKETS If you have already bought a non-refundable, nontransferable ticket for a day different from the TL or TLi return date, you will not be a TL or TLi for BGR 2016. WHAT IF I BUY A PLANE TICKET TO ARRIVE BEFORE THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST? You will be required to find your own housing. BGR will not provide housing during BGRi and BGR unless you have signed a contract with University Residences. If you live on campus, you can move in on the TL or TLi return date set by BGR. If you live off-campus, you will have to work with your leasing company on your own. Once again - BGR only provides housing to those living in the Residence Halls. THANK YOU
