Carrying on the Tradition
43rd Annual
Bull Sale
SATURDAY, March 12, 2016. 1:00 mst
WELCOME
Dear Friends, Fellow Cattlemen and Most Valued Customers:
WELCOME and GREETINGS from our BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS, VALLEYS & DESERT
to our 43rd ANNUAL BULL SALE. We have something for everyone in this sale and the quality is as good
as you can find anyplace in America. These cattle have worked for us, they have worked for thousands of
others, and they will work for you. They are backed by many generations of highly productive cow families
THAT HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. We went to the Denver Stock Show and looked at all the bulls
there and we liked a lot of our bulls better than what we saw. They are wintered on ½ grass and ½ alfalfa
with very little grain, in big lots where they get lots of exercise.
These cattle are bred to survive and excel in a commercial cattleman’s environment. We have bred
a high-maternal cow herd that excels in longevity. Longevity to us means efficient, natural fleshing, maintenance-free, structurally correct females with sound feet and legs, tight udders with small teats and adequate
milk, excellent fertility (last fall we only had 3% open cows) and productivity weaning off consistently
heavy calves year after year. WE HAVE STACKED THESE COW FAMILIES WITH THIS KIND OF
LONG TERM PRODUCTION TO PRODUCE AN ELITE COW HERD.
You can count on YARDLEY BULLS to deliver valuable pounds of growth & feed performance;
low risk, highly proven genetics to add thickness, muscle & fleshing ability, with spectacular visual quality,
structural soundness and eye appeal, consistently uniform calf crops with unmatched value and marketability. These bulls will produce high quality females that are productive, efficient, and profitable. These traits
can best be analyzed by visual appraisal from the eyes of a stockman and assessed along with performance
data. The right kind of profitable cattle never go out of style. THE BIG FEEDERS RECOGNIZE OUR
CATTLE HAVE SUPERIOR GENETICS THAT MAKE THEM GAIN AND LOOK BETTER, AND
THEY PAY A PREMIUM FOR CALVES SIRED OUT OF OUR BULLS.
All my life I have bred performance and perfect conformation in these cattle. WE HAVE BEEN
AI’ing FOR 48 YEARS. Many people have told us that all three of our breeds look alike. We analyze
EPD’s but the main selection tool that we have always used in individual performance is birth weights,
weaning weights, and yearling weights, plus eye appealing good looks. It really upsets us that most of these
breed associations and many breeders don’t want to furnish this individual performance. They just want to
go entirely on EPD’s and carcass data as their only selection tool. This leaves a plain made, hard doing cow
base that is hard to look at. It also opens the door for structural flaws and the dead end street of single trait
selection.
Feb. 1st we got from 1 ft. to 18 inches of snow. We couldn’t move without plowing a road with the
tractor. It snowed our cattle in on the desert and we had to feed them for only the 3rd time in 32 years. We
have had to bring our early calving cows home to calve. It’s 45 miles. It went to 17 below for a few nights.
We have a good snow pack in the mountains. We depend on this for irrigation water, so we are thankful for
this. We are getting an awful inversion with fog and clouds out on the desert so it isn’t melting the snow.
With all of this severe weather we have had a harder time getting our catalog to the printers than any bull
sale we have had in 43 years.
Family traditions are part of the way of ranch life in the West and farm life in the East. Fostering
the passage of knowledge, honesty, integrity, and hard work between the generations who take part in this
unique and wonderful way of life. This is a FAMILY ORGANIZATION. We are very grateful for the hard
work of our family, and our dedicated hired men, Josue Garcia and Jose Guzman. I especially want to thank
Jeannie for the catalog design, Steven for the footnotes, Michelle for the records and data, Rodney, Tawnya,
Angela, and Steven for the excellent pictures. They have worked unceasingly around the clock to get this
catalog out.
We pray daily for our great country that it can survive the dictatorial powers and unconstitutional
executive orders of the Obama bunch. Obama tells us to be tolerant of the Muslims, but he is not tolerant at
all of us Christians and is making it extremely hard for Chaplins and Christians in the armed forces. I hope
we will be able to elect an honest, conservative Christian as President.
We must all band together, regardless of creed or religion, stand up and do everything in our power
to protect our God-given freedoms, our core Christian values, the sanctity of marriage and our inspired Constitution which protects our rights. We need to be civil but undaunted in standing firm for what we believe.
We LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU AND SEEING YOU AT THE SALE. We
appreciate your friendship and interest in our cattle. Our greatest desire is that these bulls will do a good job
for you and sire some market topping calves. Please call if we can be of any assistance. Visitors are always
welcome. GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.
Sincerely yours for a better cattle business.

As cattle breeders we have a sacred stewardship to take
care of and the land and cattle we are so blessed to manage.
We are all in this together, and regardless of the onslaught of
voices speaking out against ranchers, farmers, and producers
we can set a higher example of true animal husbandry. We
feel so blessed to be able to rub shoulders, work with, and sell
cattle to such a high caliber of people. At the end of the day
it is our family, friends and loved ones along with our own
personal integrity that matter most. Everything else in life
doesn’t count for much if you don’t have friends and strong
relationships with one another. I think if we can always keep
a long term, even an eternal perspective we will be much
more likely to make good decisions that will have the most
lasting influences for good on others. I am always amazed by
how many people know and talk highly of my dad as I travel
throughout the country. How grateful I am that he’s always
had high standards and treated people fairly in his business
dealings.
We all, you and I, have some pioneer heritage in our
blood. These brave men and women who charted courses
and traveled through unknown territories, established the
greatest country known to man, tamed and cultivated the unbroken prairies, hand dug ditches, cleared fields, built fences,
and created communities deserve to have their undaunted
legacy carried forward.
I love the poetic words from Paul Harvey from his speech,
“So God Made a Farmer:”
God said, “I need somebody strong enough to clear trees
and heave bails, yet gentle enough to tame lambs and wean
pigs and tend the pink-combed pullets, who will stop his
mower for an hour to splint the broken leg of a meadow lark.
It had to be somebody who’d plow deep and straight and not
cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed and rake
and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece and strain the
milk and replenish the self-feeder and finish a hard week’s
work with a five-mile drive to church.
“Somebody who’d bale a family together with the soft
strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh and then sigh, and
then reply, with smiling eyes, when his son says he wants to
spend his life ‘doing what dad does.’” So God made a farmer.
The bulls represented in this offering and the cows and
cow families backing them represent a lifetime of hard work
and dedication to uncompromised standards of structure,
quality and conformation. Thanks for your friendship and
belief in our program.

64 YEARS OF PROGRESS
In 1950 I was 17 years old, I was very excited to win the Grand Champion Market Steer at the South West Livestock Show in Cedar City, Utah.
He was 17 months old and only weighed 960 lbs. There was no performance in those Herefords in those days. He sold for $1.50 a lb.

YOUR CATTLE WHEN YOU GET HOME!
Our bulls are not pampered and are not overly fat. They are developed on high roughage rations for comparison
only and not for maximum gain. You will not be paying for over fleshing that will melt away as the breeding season
progresses. By not force feeding these bulls, you can be assured they will be sound, athletic, and ready to service
cows. They are grown in big lots where they get lots of exercise, so they can take the toughest ranges. These bulls
are grown mostly on hay with a 50/50 alfalfa grass mix with less than 1% of their body weight in grain.
We have always concentrated on producing a functional, balanced, all purpose beef animal. One that is thick and moderate framed,
not too big or too small, and that has a natural fleshing ability. If a cow has feed, I expect her to stay fat while raising a 700 lb. calf.
We believe in a balance between performance, eye appeal, and maternal traits. Above all, we have eliminated the problem cattle.
To achieve balance, ranchers need cattle that are not necessarily the tops in all traits, but they can’t be weak in one single trait.

WHY USE YARDLEY BULLS
1. THE BIG FEEDERS PAY A PREMIUM FOR
CALVES SIRED BY OUR BULLS BECAUSE
THEY ARE THE BEST GAINERS AND THEY HAVE THE
LOOK, EYE APPEAL AND UNIFORM PHENOTYPE.
2. Their daughters will be the most productive cows you’ve owned.
3. Their calves will weigh 25 to 100 lbs more at weaning.
4. These bulls are wintered in big lots on half grass/alfalfa and only 1% grain.
5. They are born unassisted on the range and walk 25 miles to and from the summer
range that goes to 10,200 ft. elevation, so they have to be structurally correct.
6. You don’t have to baby and pamper them.
7. Our cows winter on desert winter range without hay. They have natural fleshing
ability to stay fat on grass and take care of themselves.
8. All bulls are performance tested and backed by our first year breeding guarantee.
9. They have proven themselves to adapt to all environments and have sold into 30
states, Canada and Mexico.
10. Simmental and Simmental crosses are some of the most sought after cattle by
order buyers, feedlots and for replacement females.
11. YARDLEY BULLS ARE BRED WITH THE COMMERCIAL CATTLEMEN IN
MIND.
12. You are buying from a family that is honest, we will treat you fairly.
13. GIB YARDLEY IS A MASTER CATTLE BREEDER. He will be 83 years old on
March 15th. He has AI’d for 48 years and has produced one of America’s greatest
cow herds. He has spent his life breeding this herd of cattle and raising a wonderful
family.
14. THESE ARE NOT ORDINARY CATTLE. THEY HAVE MORE THICKNESS,
DEPTH, MUSCLEING, FLESHING ABILITY, PERFORMANCE, & STRUCTURAL
CORRECTNESS IN A MODERATE SIZED PACKAGE.
15. Cross breeding pays. You can’t afford not to.

S7, Yardley Blazing Gun C334’s impressively stylish and productive
dam has been one of the most consistent quality producers and
C334 may well be her best calf yet. She has averaged a scale

C363’s sire Showdown was our ’12 sale topper for $18,500 going
to John Griswold. His offspring have proven themselves as real
world growth, functional cattle with sound feet and legs, big tops,
and powerful hips. Yardley Mahogany, a deceased Angus herd sire
was a maternal brother to C363’s dam; SimAngus genetics at their
finest.

His dam is an own daughter of the immortal Steel Force and out of a

heaviest used calving ease sires in the Angus breed who has proven

alving heifers. We calve from 100-200
heifers every year and we always watch them closely.
We always try to breed them to an easy calving bull.
However, I don’t care how much of a calving ease bull you
buy, if you want a live calf you have got to get up at 2:00
in the morning. We check our heifers every 3 hours. IF
YOU GET THEM TO FAT OR TO THIN YOU ARE ALSO
GOING TO HAVE TROUBLES. We like to not feed them
over 1/3 alfalfa and they need some exercise. They need a
little protein or the calves will be born weak and are a lot
more susceptible to scours. But too much protein makes the
calves bigger. All females should be watched closely during
calving. You can’t predict whether any virgin bull will be a
heifer bull until he’s sired a crop of calves. THE BEST WAY
TO AVOID CALVING PROBLEMS IS TO EXPECT YOU
WILL HAVE THEM.

We were super excited to see the result of this mating, and were

consider that his excellent, deep bodied dam has averaged 764#

289 is a maternal brother to our herd sires Zion & Embark. It is rare
to find an elite individual with the amount of sheer capacity and
broodiness that so readily transmits these traits so effectively to her

a $14,500 daughter that was selected by Cory Reins of NE for a

We run a family operation, with friendships formed under a starry sky and a mountain haven. Calving, changing water, riding for cows, hay, branding and everything else that comes
with ranching is done with one another, it’s a life of service. Service to the land, service to
our family and service to our God, this service forms a family united in love. You realize that
without one another the cattle and the land are of little value. We welcome you to our sale,
grateful for your business, but more grateful for your friendship.

This is one of the very best Angus bulls we have ever raised or
see. You could write a book about Yardley Mountain and his perfect
profile. Seldom do you see this much muscle and meat coupled
with width depth and dimension in a PB Angus package. With huge
hoof, bone and a powerful pedigree, his attributes culminate to
make him a spectacle of awe and wonder. When we saw his sire,
Sinclair Mountain Pass, we were amazed by how deep and soft
made he was and his width of body throughout. The sky is the limit

I don’t know if you could put any more depth into an animal than C474
possesses. He’s the type of bull that made Billy the Kid’s offspring so
marketable. If you are wanting to make a set of tremendous, easy

stay fat doing it C474 possesses all of the necessary traits to do it. His
maternal line traces back to herd matron J200. This old cow weaned

Tribute to Denise’s Father,
Wendell Romulus Evans, Aug 20, 1932-Jan 25, 2016
50
435-310-0041
Most of all dad loved mom, even though some of the things he did tried her patience, they treated each other with love. Everyday he’d take her on a ride exploring in the car. We teased them that they never missed a
funeral, if it was anyone they knew even distantly they’d go. He and mom were such great support to us, they
came often to visit and were there to encourage us in every way they could. They let us know how much they
loved us and how important it was that we live honestly and with compassion and faith.
Dad loved music and it was always a special treat when he’d play songs on the harmonica or the piano to
entertain us, we enjoyed it as much as he did and it made many fun, sweet memories.
He always had an assortment of animals, chickens, a donkey, goats,- all just for his enjoyment. Each morning they’d noisily let him know they were waiting for the treats he brought them, old twinkies or cookies,
they wouldn’t even pay attention to bread.
Dad was a school teacher and enjoyed it to the point that he tried to talk all of his children and grandchildren into teaching. He thought it was the ultimate career.
We were so blessed to be a part of his life, he left us a rich heritage and an example of blessing others lives
through kindness. I love you Dad, I’m so proud to be your daughter and thankful my children and grandchildren have been strengthened and blessed by your example. You make us want to live worthy to be with
you eternally. Love Denise

consider that he did this while he was an orphan, it’s astounding.
Jose found him on our desert winter range with no cow around,
and when he went back and still couldn’t find a cow he brought
him home, but never found a cow to put him on. He apparently
became very proficient at stealing milk. We were amazed when
we gathered in the fall with how well he had done. To make a long

If I were to flush a red cow on the ranch I think I would start with
C369’s maternal grand dam. She is a cherry red, beautifully broody,
massive ribbed, stout made showy female with a perfect leg,
great bone and exceptional thickness out of Pressure Point. She
produced a $5,750 bull calf in last year’s sale.

You’ll appreciate the spread of this powerful young bull who really
packed on the pounds. He’s out of one of the prettiest females on
our ranch. She was selected by Emily as her pick of our heifer
calves several years back. You really can’t help but appreciate the
design and femininity coupled with power and thickness in a soft
made, easy keeping problem free package. Her dam is about our
favorite Dream On daughter with a top notch resume, producing a
$5,000 and a $5,250 bull calf and averaging an impressive 734#

Whirl of a dream was the pick of our Simmental bull calves five years ago.
He’s big topped, large scrotaled, with bone and great muscle shape. His dam
B75, has been a top producer for us. She raised this calf at 17 years old. He
weaned off at 712# with no creep and she was fat when she came home. A
wise cattleman once told me if you love the cow, breed one of her sons and
you’ll replicate her. There is performance with power in this pedigree. We
couldn’t be more pleased with the daughters he’s left us. They are functional,
big ribbed, thick made cattle with performance. A couple years ago his calves
averaged higher than any other sire group, averaging over $7,000.

We consider this bull one of the best, if not the very best we have ever

a single thing I don’t like about Utah. He has perfect phenotype every place
you look at him. I don’t like high tailed cattle. I want them square over the
tail head and he is. We consider his dam to be the perfect built, moderate
sized cow and as pretty and good as any cow we own. His beautifully
designed maternal grand dam was a stellar $7,700 feature in our sale
that sold to Greg Kroupa of White Lake, SD. Utah has experienced great
success in our program and at Wernings in Emery SD with several calves

This fancy ½ blood was Grand Champion Simmental bull wherever shown at

Sears from California and I were watching them judge the show and when
he won we decided to buy him. He is by Steel Force out of an OCC Legend
daughter. He had a 64# birth weight so we bred him to quite a few heifers. He
really held his flesh well after we turned him out to breed. Owned with Stan

Yardley Zion X288
ANGUS REG # 17036377
Sire: SCC Apache Brave
Dam: Miss Yardley S504 by SAF Bando 5175
has been one of our very top producers, she does not miss. Zion was
S504
a bull that stood out as a top individual from the time we weaned. He had as
much rib, rear quarter, power and overall mass as any bull in the pen. We
just weaned his first calf crop, they have performance and eye appeal. He
was severely hurt as a yearling, we babied him along for a solid year and he
recovered. He is as pretty a mature bull as you could picture with the pedigree
and performance to stand out from the crowd.

SCC Apache Brave
Deceased
ANGUS REG # 15759398
Sire: OCC Legend 616L
Dam: Y Annie Coed 928 (Krugerrand granddaughter)
Apache Brave is going to go down as one of the greatest sires of Yardley
Cattle Co. He is an easy calving sire that produces cattle that have
look and style. Grass fat cattle are what we need to breed. He always
maintained his flesh while breeding cows and he wasn’t a bull that needed
to primped and pampered. Apache was a moderator that kept performance
and bred depth and rib into his progeny. His heifers are loaded with style
and are always some of the favorites in our fall sale every year. Owned
with Matt Sherwood.
Yardley Royal Jet
ANGUS ASA REG #16704437
Sire: OCC Jet Stream
Dam: Miss Yardley R192 by SC Stockman
Royal Jet is the type of bull that defines where we are taking our program. Soft
made cattle that carry performance, thickness, fleshing ability, and style. Look
at the performance this bull carries coupled with a perfect phenotype. This is as
good as Angus bull as you will find anyplace. We have used him to clean up our
Angus heifers, cows, and crossed him up on Simmentals and Maines. The results
are the same: sound made functional cattle with eye appeal and performance.
He sired the $18,000 Yardley Cornerstone from last year’s sale and a full brother
selling this year. Royal Jet is the type of bull that will add belly, rib, and doablity,
without taking pounds away from your bottom line. Semen: $35
SAV Patron

This great $20,000 bull is bred to make a lasting contribution in all traits of
magnitude and backed by one of the strongest and most proven maternal

has 13 daughters featured in the SAV herd and 39 progeny featured in past
SAV sales. She is the favorite cow of Bob Watkins, Kelly Schaff’s right hand
man. Her progeny include some of the heaviest 205 day weights in several
of their sales. PATRON HAS HELD HIS FLESH AND STAYED FATTER
THAN ABOUT ANY YEARLING BULL WE HAVE RAISED. His prolific
Pathfinder granddam is still going strong and raising calves at 18 years of
age. I picked this bull as one of the top bulls that I liked in the famous Schaff
Angus Valley Sale. Semen: $35

ANGUS REG # 18372546 Sire: Sinclair Mountain Pass
Dam: Miss Yardley Y179 by TC Freedom 104
Yardley Summit is the result of a life time of breeding the best to the best.
The University of Wyoming judging team just visited our ranch at Christmas
time. They were amazed by the amount of width, depth, bone and style of
this purebred wonder. Caleb Boardman, their coach, commented he was one
of the best Angus bulls he had encountered. His dam is one of the prettiest
made, stylish females–the kind you could build a whole herd around. She
produced $5,750 feature Cashmere that sold to Rick Dunson of Ohio, and
is a maternal sister to Yardley Cover Girl, selected by our good friend Kasey
Rowser of Wellsville Utah for $4,500. Let Yardley Summit help take your herd
quality to new heights. SEMEN $30

We went to the Denver Stockshow and wanted to buy the Simmental Purebred we liked the best. We looked at about all of them
there. There are so many bulls of all breeds that have bad feet and a lot of people aren’t paying any attention to it. Their hooves
are either too small or many of them have outside back toes that curl under or else they toe out on front. We have tried to watch
this very closely because our cows have to walk and trail the year around as many of yours do.
We finally found one at the last minute. He looked good every place you looked at him with no holes in him and the best feet we
had seen on any bull in the show. We had to catch a plane to go home and I gave them a check for $25,000 for him about 3 or
4 minutes before he was to show and left for the airport. HE WAS PICKED GRAND CHAMPION SIMMENTAL OF THE SHOW.
Jeannie and John were there to see him and get in the picture. Jeannie called us and I was the most excited I had been for 10
years. You can’t help but love him because he has perfect conformation and is just the right size.
