Background history of the Division:
Edmonton was originally a small township called Hambledon. Hambledon came into
existence when the owner of Swallow Biscuits built a sugar mill here to process the
sugar for his biscuit factory. The township was built around the mill which in later
years was bought by CSR. The mill has now closed and Sugarworld, a water theme
park is now on the grounds. Sugar is still the primary industry through substantial
agricultural tracts of sugar cane, however these areas are fast diminishing due to
residential and industrial development. A couple of years ago the growth rate for
Edmonton was the second highest in the State.
